"Why? Why did it have to be me? Couldn't have been that bastard who did this to me? Couldn't have been anybody else?!'
I'm floating...in an endless light...it's bright, but I can still see without being blinded.
Even when I look around me it's all the same. The only other thing I can see is my own body.
Sudeenly, I feel myself being whisked away...even further into the bright abyss.
As I get pulled further the light gets more blinding, to the point where I have to close my eyes.
After a few seconds I reopen my eyes...but this time it's pitch black...a true abyss.
When I look around I can see a bright light shining through, but when I look closer I see that the black abyss is swallowing that light.
I don't do anything, I don't try to move towards it I don't panic I just...stare.
I watch, as this bright light is slowly swallowed.
I blink...and when I reopen my eyes the abyss changes again...I'm back in the bright abyss.
I blink again.
As expected the light around me is now darkness.
I do this back and forth a few more times, confused about what's happening to my surroundings.
I blink one more time and I'm back in the brighf abyss.
Before I can blink again something catches my eye...a black orb...floating in the light...it's being swallowed by the light...the opposite of what happened before.
Although this time a try and move towards it, and to my surprise I feel something press against my feet.
A line of flooring appeared under me and is extending out towards the orb.
I try to get past my initial shock.
'Just go towards the thing, it's not like life can get any worse, your dead.' I tell myself.
I start at a slow walk towards the orb, then a jog, then a full on sprint as the light starts absorbing it faster and faster.
As I get closer I reach out for it. Just as I touch the orb I collapse. My head starts ringing and my body feels like it's tearing itself apart. The pain is unbearable.
"AAAAAGGHHHHHH!!!"
I let out a scream of pain before fainting.
.
.
.
.
.
.
'I can hear...chirping?'
I start to regain my senses and open my eyes.
'Where am I? A....forest?'
I start to stand up but I'm filled with shock and collapse. I look down at my body, hold my hands out, flipping them back and forth, examining my body.
'This...what the hell?! Who am I?'
I start looking around me. I see many trees with vines hanging from them, moss surround almost all of the bark. The leaves of these trees are almost blue, yet a hint of green can be seen. It's like nothing I've ever seen.
I walk up to one of the trees and place my hand on it.
'It's like I can hear it talking to me...'
I focus harder and I can hear what sounds like whispers coming from all the trees around me.
I fall down from shock and look up at the tree in front of me.
"Are you...alive? Is that you speaking?" I ask it.
However I get no response. I shake my head and pinch the bridge of my nose.
"Here I am talking to trees, get a hold of yourself Kiran." I whisper to myself.
I start walking around the forest aimlessly, trying to find anything to tell me where I am.
After a while of searching I finally find a pond, not the greatest but it's something.
The water looks clean and I'm starting to feel thirsty so I take as drink, but end up drinking more and more.
.
.
I plop down onto the ground and sigh.
"I was way thirstier than I thought."
After a few seconds I glance back at the pond and lean over the top of the water to get a good look at myself.
"W-WHAT?!?!" I shout.
I stare at the person looking back at me. Smooth skin, red eyes, long eyelashes that are somehow red, white hair flowing down to the shoulders, very long and pointy ears, and sharp canines.
'I look like a classical vampire...except the ears. What's up with the ears?'
I stand up and look down at my body for a second time.
I raise my hands up and study then one more time, but I notice my fingernails are pointed and...'white?'
I also realize, that I'm butt naked.
"Seriously? No clothes?" I say under my breath.
I hear a twig snap behind me and turn around.
A small woman, wearing exposing armor is staring at me. Afrer I few seconds of staring at eachother I remember I'm naked. My hands shoot down to protect myself.
"Quit looking you creep!!!" I shout at her.
She practically squeals "Sorry!" and turns around quickly.
After a few seconds of silence I finally contain my embarrassment.
"Do you have anything I could have to cover myself? Anything that I could wrap around my waist would be fine." I ask her.
She almost glances back at me but quickly catches herself.
I see her reach inside a bag and she pulls out what looks like a towel, and tosses it to me behind her back.
I quickly grab it and wrap it around my waist.
"Thanks." I say to her.
"Um...is it okay for me to turn around?" She asks nervously.
"Yeah it's fine. Not like you'll see anything you already haven't." I say the last part under my breath.
She slowly turns around, with her hands still covering her eyes. She peeks out through them and finally puts her hands down.
Although she's blushing she tries to put on a brave face.
"Who are you anyways? I've never seen you around here before. In fact, barely anyone other than me comes out here." I can tell she wants to say more but she hesitates.
I'm about to anwser when I catch myself. I stare down at the ground, thinking about what to say.
'Should I just lie? This obviously isn't earth and saying I'm from another planet would be...dumb. Let's just say I lost my memory.'
I quickly look up at her and she flinches.
"I don't really know, I must've lost my memory. Only thing I can really remember is that my name's Kiran." I tell her.
She crosses her arms, resting her chin on one of her fists. She looks like she's thinking really hard. After a few seconds of hard thinking she looks up at me.
"Do you want to be an adventurer? You could make money pretty easily. You don't have anything else to do and I can set you up with some clothes and a weapon." She says, her eyes are practically beaming.
'Something smells fishy here. Oh well, what's the worst that could happen?'
"Sure, that's fine with me." I tell her.
She practically jumps with excitement. I swear J can see her pupils turn into coins...
She rushes up to me suddenly, grabbing my hand and clutching it.
"Good! Now come with me! I'll show you my adventures guild!" She shouts.
I look at her quizzically.
'Your adventures guild?'
I glance down at my hand. She's still clutching it, and she's very close to me. I glance up at her.
"I'm still half-naked you know?" I tell her.
She looks down at our hands, then back at my face. The blush on her cheeks return. She starts to study me.
"Stop it"
She practically jumps out of her skin when I speak. She frantically pushes my hand away and starts to walk away, the blush on her face practically turned her into a tomato.
She glances back at me with her face all pink and waves at me, signaling me to follow her.
.
.
.
.
We walk for what seems like an hour in complete silence, she still seems flustered about earlier. Though her blush is still noticeable, she seems to have contained herself more.
Even when I tried to speak up she just ignored me.
After a few more minutes if walking we reach a clearing. The girl points towards a hill in front of us.
"The city is just over this hill, c'mon!" She yells.
She picks up her pace and strides to the top of the hill, she puts in front of her face to block the sun and starts to smile.
"Hurry up stranger! The view is beautiful up here!" She says.
'You didn't need to add the 'stranger' part there.'
When I reach the top a beautiful sunset meets me there. A city with a wall protecting it, a flock of birds flying by, and a beautiful...'blue sky?!'
I practically gasp at the sight. My jaw drops and I stare at the sky for what feels like forever.
A poke on my shoulder jolts me out of my trance. The woman is looking at me, a laugh escaping her lips.
"Jeez, it's not THAT beautiful! Have you never seen a sunset before or something?" She says jokingly.
'Well...not a blue one, so "No"
She looks at me, with a sad look in her eye.
'Did I seriously say that out loud?' I ask myself, almost annoyed by the thought.
"Well...you'll have plenty of time to see it again. Now hurry up! I need to get you questing!" She says, and that coin pupil returns.
'So I didn't see it wrong...'
She grabs my wrist and starts dragging me towards the city.
'She's using me to get money isn't she?'
.
.
.
.
The city is huge. People are everywhere, walking, chatting, buying. There's tons of stores and many market stalls lining the streets.
'Although it's a sight to behold the people are what interest me the most.'
I study a few of the people around me.
'I know about demi-human's from anime's but seeing them in person is weird in a way. It seems natural but I'm not used to seeing ears and tails on people.'
I keep looking around at the people I'm walking by. Most of them are humans but the rest of them are beings I've only dreamed of seeing in a anime.
Draconian, demi-human, and many others walk around me and I study each of them when they walk by, fascinated by their features.
When I finally contain myself I notice that a lot of people are greeting the woman guiding me, and lot's of them are giving me strange looks too.
'I know I'm in a towel but why do they have to make those faces?'
After a few more minutes of walking, she guides me towards a massive building. Dozens of people are gathered on the outside talking.
When we enter a whole bunch of people welcome the woman. After hearing everyone greet her I figured out that her name is Veliah.
'Come to think of it, she never told me her name. Was she really that focused on getting some extra money in her pocket?' I think to myself.
Quest board, front desk, tables full of people wearing armor...yep, classic fantasy Adventurers Guild.
'Cliché'
Veliah drags me up to the front desk.
"Advisor Reiko, give this man some clothes and a basic sword please. Oh! and set up a bath for him will you? Thanks a bunch!" She tells the...'advisor?'
The advisor bows towards Veliah, she turns around and goes through a hallway and dissappears from view.
"Now you just wait here for her! I have work to do, talk to you later!" She says before running off into another room.
'Seriously?! You're really gonna leave me out here when I've just lost my memory?! Well...technically I haven't but still!!'
I look around the room, and see more than a few people staring at me. Some blushing, some disgusting, some curious, and some even look frightened.
When the notice my gaze most of them look away, while some continue to stare. I start to feel nervous but luckily my savior (The Advisor) comes to whisk me away.
She brings me into a bathing area and gives me sime clothes to change into, along with a sword and sheath.
I take it them and set them next to the bath before taking off the towel and climb inside the bath.
As soon as I'm fully in I heave out a sigh of satisfaction.
'This feels so damned good! The water is nice and warm and I have just enough breathing room that I don't feel too cramped.
After awhile of relaxing in the water I wash myself and exit the bath.
The clothes fit surprisingly well, though they're ragged it's better than nothing. The sword is pretry light and sharp, just the way you would want it.
When I find my way back to the main lobby I see Veliah chatting with a few Adventurers.
I start making my way towards the group and Veliah notices me approaching almost instantly. She quickly wraps up with the Adventurers.
"Hey there Kiran! You all finished up? No need to anwser that, I already know the anwser! We need to get you on a quest so we can get you out of those scraps! We don't run a charity after all." She's practically bursting with energy when she says this.
She doesn't give me time to respond she just starts pushing me towards the quest board.
"Come onnnn, pick one!" She shouts.
Just as I'm about to randomly pick one from off the board she stops me.
"Oh, and you can only take on Trash-Rank quests until you rank up. Here, let me pick one for you."
Instead of grabbing the paper with her own hand she grabs mine and plants it onto a piece of paper that has a strange creature drawn on it.
There's something written at the bottom in a language I've never seen before but for some reason I can read it perfectly fine.
It says "Someone please kill the Kahbra den and stop those damned things from attacking our town!"
The creature drawn on the page looks kind of similar to a goblin but it's different. Empty eye sockets, blue skin, a hole where the heart is supposed to be with a floating orb there instead, and most intriguing of all...two tendrils made of flesh and bone on it's back.
'Whatever it is it looks creepy.'
Veliah suddenly yanks me towards the front desk.
"Reiko I need an Adventurers band, pronto."
Reiko opens a drawer and hands Veliah a metal bracelet.
'It looks luke it's made of trash, what the hell is that?'
Veliah grabs my wrist and slaps the band on. She's just about to do something else but she freezes and looks up at me.
"You don't even have your stat ring? You're helpless even for a victim of amnesia. Reiko I need a stat ring too." She says.
'Huh, so they know what amnesia means.'
Reiko pulls out a different drawer and picks up a ring. Veliah grabs the ring and places it on my ring finger.
"Good, now you can take on this quest. Put the piece of paper above your Adventurer band and go start your quest! Sorry I have things I need to do so your on your own for now!" She says, slapping my shoulder before walking off.
I stand there in annoyance.
'How many times is she gonna do this to me? It's gonna get on my nerves soon. Dropping stuff on me and walking away like it's no big deal!'
I stare at the paper in my hands.
'Ah hell, there's nothing else for me to do anyways.'
I put the piece of paper above my band and for a second nithing happens, but suddenly the paper gets sucked into the band and dissappears.
Suddenly a red quest window appears in front of me and I nearly jump out of my skin.
It says "You've excepted a kill quest. Kill 20 Kahbra to complete the quest. Any extra kills will result in further rewards."
'It's just like one of those popular mmorpg games back on earth.'
I look at the window for a few seconds in shock.
'Ugh, this is gonna take a second to get used too. Let's just do the quest, I'm sure they're not too hard to kill.'
I find an 'X' button and press it. Like expected the window closes.
A few seconds after it closes a rush of knowledge surges through my mind, showing me where my quest is. It's as if I've done this quest over and over before. I know exactly where to go to get to the den. They're dwelling in a cave not too far from here.
'That was...new...I might aswell go do that quest then.'
I head out of the Adventurers Guild and head towards the front gate of the city.
'Come to think of it, I don't even know the name of this city. I'll have to ask Veliah or Reiko when I get back.'
When I reach the front gate It's already getting dark, although I can tell it's getting dark I can see just fine.
'Nice, I'll be able to see at night! Is it because I'm a Vampire? I wonder if I have to suck blood to survive or something. I haven't really felt hungry. I'll have to figure that out later.'
I start walking down a long road hummjng to myself along the way.
'Wow, I'm really going into this blind....I just got into this world and I'm already on a quest. It's all because of that damned guild owner! I haven't even catched my bearings, who sends a victim of amnesia off to battle!'
I sigh to myself and pinch the bridge of my nose.
'No...it's your fault for being so dumb in the first place Kiran.' I tell myself.
I heave out a big sigh of frustration.
"Well, here we go. Let's start my first quest!"
