A long and smooth black hair flew gently along with the airflow, brushing my face. The sound of rotating blades in an electronic device fill the silence as I move it around to dry the wet hair thoroughly. I switch it off, stopping the warm airflow causing the hair to fall and resting nicely behind a small back. Fair skin, no pimple, no freckle. A tint of pink is visible on the cheek as I brush a strand of hair behind. A pair of obsidian eyes stare back at me with a smile. She is my little sister. Her name is Aimi.
We are currently in her bedroom with me sitting behind her on her bed, combing her pretty straight hair. Pink bed, pink walls, and pink bow. This room screams femininity. Her pink bow is in my hand, which I use it to tie her hair, styling it while she tries her best to tie her necktie on her own.
I shake my head watching her struggling. How could she still not getting how to do it? Even though I taught her several times before. Oh well, it can't be helped. I pull one end from her hand and circle it around the other one, passing under and slipping inside the loop, pulling the end.
"Too tight?"
"Nope! Just right!"
This is our everyday life. Every morning, before going to school, I would help her with her hair and tie. We have no parents. They died a few years ago because of an accident. When the news reached us, Aimi couldn't accept it and kept bawling her eyes off every night. One of those nights, I let her cry in my arms and I said I don't mind if she drenches my clothes and I hug her tight.
"It's okay. You have me. I would never leave you. Never."
My voice somehow calm her down and the next day, she is in her usual self. Bright, cheerful and sweet. We are always together. That was why she enrolled at my school so we can keep seeing each other even at school. She is now a second-year, a high school student, and younger than me by a year.
"Alright. Get ready. I'll pack our lunchboxes."
"Okay! I'll wait downstairs."
After making sure all the electricity are off and the door of our small apartment is locked, we ride the bicycle to school. Aimi always sits behind and let me do the cycling. Our build is different and she's smaller than me. So, it's only normal for me to do all the hard work and if I let her do it, I will feel guilty.
"Morning, you two!"
"Morning, aunty!"
"Morning! Careful and don't trip!"
People greet us along the way as we pass by them. They are very friendly and sometimes they gave us food or leftovers. We were born here and raised here so the folks here basically know us. It is a very nice town. The breeze hitting my face after I speeding up feel nice too. I can see our school building not too far from here.
"Aimi! Morning!"
"Good morning!"
"Hey, morning!"
"Morning!"
We passed by our friends after I slowed down a little. I have to be careful not to hit anyone. The road is busy because a lot of students from our school walk from their house. They are mostly walking with their friends but some likes to be alone. A teacher is standing by the school gate checking our uniform and appearance before letting any of us enter the gate. I pull a stop in front of her, letting her scan us from top to bottom and give us an okay once she is satisfied. We finally reach the garage and I park at an empty spot next to another student's bicycle, locking it with the chain on the pole.
"Miss Akemi is very attentive when she checked us just now. I was nervous even though I know we don't do anything wrong."
"She always checks your necktie because the first time you do it by yourself without my help, she gave you demerit for not wearing it properly."
"That was last year... Please don't remind me. I was so embarrassed at that time. My friends also teased me about it."
"They still tease you?"
"Not anymore but they knew I asked for your help to tie it for me."
We enter the school building together and take off our shoes before stepping inside. Shoes' locker is separated by year so I walk to the further end and change into my indoor shoes. Once done, I walk over to my sister because she is taking some time just to wear her shoes but she's only standing there and not wearing her indoor shoes yet.
"What are you doing? Oh... Again?"
Inside her locker, a lot of papers are piling above her shoes. I whistle when she opens one of them.
"You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. I would like you to know me so please meet me after school by the fountain. From Minato, class 2-C."
She closes it almost immediately after I finished reading it at a fast pace. A tint of pink is visible across her cheeks and she is glaring. Wait, she glares at me just because I read it aloud?
"This is embarrassing..."
I watch her take all the papers which I think are love letters from the boys who got a crush on my little sister. She folds it in hurry, trying to be considerate by handling it gently not to crumple it then put them all inside her bag. Finally, she has some space in her locker and she can now wear her shoes.
"You have a lot of admirers, little sister."
"They just want to be my friend, that's all."
"Surely they want to date you. How will you reply to them? That was a lot."
"I'll think about it later."
"Hey, Aimi! Morning! Oh, hey senior! Good morning!"
"Morning."
"Morning, Yumi."
The girl who just arrived and greeted us is Yumi. She is my sister's classmate and they are close friends since their first year. This year, they are also in the same class again. She has brunette hair with a curl at the end of her hair and a pair of hazel eyes. When she stands next to my sister, she looks smaller than her. I thought Aimi is the shortest but I was wrong. When the two of them start talking, they will forget the world around them. Especially their surrounding.
"Aimi, my class is that way. See you later."
"Oh? Then, Yumi and I will be going this way. Will you be late again today?"
"Yeah, I have club activities. Bye, Aimi. You too, Yumi. Be good to each other."
"Okay, take care!"
"Bye-bye, senior!"
I look back at them, watching them still talking to each other with a smile on their face. I wonder what they talked about. Even their voice reach this far and other students keep looking at them. When I reach my class, loud and quick footsteps are heard behind me and I jerk forward when someone suddenly put their arm around my shoulder.
"Morning, Shun!"
"Morning. You are energetic as always, Hiro."
This guy is my friend. He joins the same club as me. We are both in the track and field club. We have known each other since elementary school.
"Geh, you got taller again didn't you?"
"It's normal. Aren't you supposed to be taller than me? It's you who still not growing."
"Ouch, my heart. Your word is hurting me, you know. For your information, I'm still a growing young man."
He keeps talking and talking about stuff. My ears are bleeding. How can he be this energetic early morning? I'm tired... After listening to our teachers' teaching, we got some homework to do at home. Bell rang signalling it is time for a break. I open my bag and take out my lunchbox. Taking the first bite, I grimace when I taste it. Shit, I mistook my sister's with mine. Her food is always sweet. Especially the egg rolls. She likes putting a lot of sugar while making it. I go to her class to give it to her. Someone suddenly opens the door and walks out without looking in front of her. As a result, she bumps into me.
"Ouch, I'm sorry for not looking!"
"Ah, it's fine."
"Huh? Aren't you senior Shun? Aimi is over there. Aimi!"
I see my little sister wave from her seat. She is currently sitting with her friends. Eating lunch together.
"What's up?"
She looks at me with a smile on her face. I don't know if she act like it's nothing or didn't realize it yet. Her smile get wider the moment I put the lunchbox on the desk. So, she knew.
"So, did you eat a little?"
"You already knew the answer."
Gosh. She is laughing at me. Her friends also laugh along. I guess my face is showing. They invite me to eat with them and I sit next to my sister.
