Chapter 4 - "BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST, THE DEVIL WAS ONCE AN ANGEL."

Jennifer was shown a letter by David. "If you want to know the truth, come find me," the letter says.

'Wait a minute, where did you get this?'

'From the third victim's.'

'But why wasn't it also in the files?'

'Well, there is a witness from the third victim case; a drunk man saw a man wearing a coat abandoning the corpses inside the building,' says the investigator.

'Are there any accomplices?'

'No, the man was alone, the witness did not recognize his face, and he passed out afterward.' He reported it the next day; no one believed him at first, but the location corresponds to the coordinates sent to us from the culprit.'

'Where is this witness?'

"He vanished without a trace. The police couldn't find him anywhere until five days later, when they discovered his body inside a hotel room, stabbed nine times. There are no traces of the perpetrator, and the CCTV in the area was being repaired on the day of the incident."

"Then the higher-ups covered it up, correct?"

'Yes, everyone who knows this are hushed, especially the officers involved because of their negligence'.

"How about this letter?" Do you have any ideas about what it means? '

'No, we don't know. We suspected the TNS group, but I don't believe they would kill civilians for any reason. So, up until yesterday, we were at a dead end.

'I see. Thank you for informing me.'

'You can call if you want to ask something, I can be of any help'

'Ok, I'll you later'

Jennifer is in her office, staring at her computer monitor. David knocked on the door.

'Please come in.'

'Thanks'

'Is it appropriate not to reveal the victims' connections?

'We have yet to confirm this, so we need to be discreet; in any case, that's why I called you here.' I'd like you to look for the files of the xxx business complex fire's bereaved families. There could be more to this case, so don't tell anyone just yet.'

'That's exactly what I intend to do.'

'Hmm. Please notify me right away if you discover anything useful. And can you ask the relatives of the last victim about the incident report from ten years ago? '

'Yes, ma'am.'

'Thank you very much.'

David exited the room and continued on his way. He paid a visit to the last victim's relative. It had been a long ride, and there was still heavy traffic.

'My condolences on your loss. We're doing everything we can to catch the perpetrators.'

'Thank you so much for coming to see us,' the victim's aunt says, still sobbing for his nephew.

'He's a very sweet boy and diligent,' the uncle said as he hugged his wife.

'Could you tell me about the incident ten years ago and how he went missing?'

David inquired.

'It was a hot summer day, and he played at a nearby arcade when someone approached him and introduced himself as his parents' friend.' We warned him to be wary of him, but he returned to the arcade to play the next day. He was only fifteen years old at the time. The moon has already peered through the clouds, but he is still not home. We looked for him and waited until the next day, but he wasn't home. We asked everyone we could think of if they had seen him, but it was all for naught. We assumed that the man who approached him took him, but we have no information about him other than this card.'

The uncle pulled out a small card with only a name written on it. It was similar to a business card but only had a name on it.

'Have you reported this to the authorities?'

'Yes, but nothing was found with this name, and there are many people in this country with a similar name. Because the databases were out of date at the time, it was hopeless.'

David received the card from the man, and the name 'John Garcia' was written on it.

'It was a very common name.' Is it okay if I keep this card? Don't worry; I'll take care of everything. I just want to look into it further.'

'You certainly can.'

'Thank you very much.'

'The name is common, but the card is one-of-a-kind. It has a distinct texture and appearance. This paper must be costly, and it's not your average card.'
