Chapter 697 - Chapter 676 [ Divine Mountain - VI ]

"Here they come!" - A girl exclaimed as she watched in the distance as a huge black blob slowly loomed and approached. She was an archer blessed with the skill [Hawk's Eye], which made her able to see at enormous distances - "I can't tell the exact number, but there are a lot of them!"

"You know your orders!" - Cloud exclaimed as he looked at the gatekeeper - "Send the message, the demons are attacking!"

"Huh!" - the doorman let out a cry of surprise and terror before nodding. He quickly ran to his post and sent the message asking for support because he didn't want to be the one responsible for the destruction of the city.

Cloud nodded weakly before looking off into the distance with a serious expression.

"Is everything under control?" - Rika asked as she looked at their leader.

"Yes, everything is according to my plan" - Cloud replied neutrally he looked in the direction where the demons were appearing - "In fact, I have a plan B if plan A doesn't work."

The blond started playing with a strange little device that had a huge red button on it.

Rika looked at the object and recognized it immediately - "A detonator?"

"Yes" - Cloud answered calmly as a huge, sadistic smile appeared on his lips.

"Impressive that you would create this kind of weapon" - said Rika as she lifted - "And I swore you only enjoyed melee combat.

"I do, but that doesn't mean I can't prepare for situations like this" - Cloud replied as he frowned - "I have to use everything I can to be able to accomplish my goal, besides, I have to keep the thought that in the future it's possible that worlds will further restrict my natural powers, putting me in situations much worse than this one."

"You have a point" - nodded Rika as she looked in the direction where the black spot was beginning to increase - "How many do you think they are?"

"I have no idea, nor do I care" - Cloud replied as he pulled out a white sphere and injected some of his mana.

The blond waited a few minutes until an image appeared on the strange transmission sphere.

[What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy?]

Rika raised an eyebrow when she saw the demoness that had attacked their group a short while ago.

"I just wanted to warn you that you'd better be as far away from the vanguard as possible" - Cloud said neutrally - "Unless you want to die."

[I know, I'm not stupid enough to put myself in the lead when I know you must have already prepared a countermeasure for the attack.]

The demoness snorted as she said these words, though at the same time she was relieved that the blond wasn't so cold to her, because this meant that she was still of use to him, and this also told her that she would live for a good while longer.

[If that's all, I'm going to cut the transmission, I don't want my subordinates to suspect me, not when I'm surrounded by them...]

"Ok" - Cloud nodded soulfully as he watched the woman's image disappear.

"I didn't know you managed to conquer that woman" - Rika said as she clicked her tongue.

"We're nothing, we're just using each other" - Cloud replied as he snorted with disdain - "Now, stop saying meaningless things and concentrate on the situation we're about to face".

"Ok, ok, you don't have to look at me in that cold way" - Rika said as she raised her minus in surrender - "Although it's a relief that you didn't take that demon woman, at least this makes me maintain a certain level of respect for you."

"You make it sound like I fuck every woman in front of me" - Cloud said with a frown.

"Don't you?" - Rika asked as she raised an eyebrow.

"If it was like you say, you'd be one of my girls too" - said Cloud with disdain.

Rika's expression darkened when she heard this, though she didn't respond to the boy's words because she knew she had earned it. Cloud didn't apologize either, mostly because he hadn't told any lies.

"We'd better talk about this later" - Cloud said as he shook his head.

"Ok" - nodded Rika as she took a small breath and shook her head before walking to the other heroes, after all, she was the one who would lead them while the blond worked alone.

"Are you serious!" - A gentleman exclaimed as he looked at the letter that had come to him.

"We sent someone to check the information and it came out completely truthful" - replied another gentleman - "We already sent the news to the adventurers' association, and to our surprise, they were already starting preparations."

"Whoever was responsible for delivering this information, did not hesitate in his moves" - muttered the knight while nodding - "I understand, I want all available knights to go to the entrance, because if this information is true, then the war has arrived at our gates and we will have to protect our inhabitants"

"Yes!" - exclaimed the second knight as he ran to hand over the cavalry captain's orders.

"I hope things don't get out of hand because I don't want to have to take responsibility for the damage" - said the cavalry corps captain.

* * * * *

"They really did come" - muttered the leader of the adventurers' guild as he rubbed his forehead to hide the terror he felt - "Good thing I trusted that man's words a bit or things wouldn't have been so fast..."

The guild leader thought for a few more seconds before shaking his head and remembering the blond's words.

"When you get the message, I want you to call all available adventurers who have the ability to fight at a distance, be it mages, archers or any other specialty."

"Although I'm still confused by the fact that he only asked for adventurers specialized in high range attacks" - muttered the leader of the adventurer's guild while thinking about the possible circumstances that would lead to a situation like that - "Does he plan to fight alone against all those demons? No, that doesn't make sense..."

The man was silent for a few seconds before shaking his head - "Anyway, I just need to send the vanguard warriors along with the ranged warriors and the problem is solved."

After thinking about this, the leader of the adventurer's guild activated the alarm to announce to the inhabitants of the capital not to leave their homes because the situation was dangerous.

* * * * *

"Alarm signal!" - exclaimed an inhabitant as he looked around in panic, more when he saw a group of knights and adventurers running towards the entrance of the capital - "What's going on!"

"I have no idea, but it's obviously dangerous" - replied his neighbor while frowning.

"We're under attack" - said a woman while biting her lip - "My boyfriend is an adventurer and he just told me that the demons are just outside the capital..."

"Impossible! They shouldn't have arrived so quickly and without us knowing!" - exclaimed the first man with a pale face - "How is it possible that they appeared outside the capital when our fortresses are still standing!"

"I don't know!" - exclaimed the woman as she bit her lip - "And do you think I care to know how they got here!!! No, all I want to know is if we will survive this attack!"

Those present fell silent when they heard these words that were like a bucket of cold water.

"She is right, it doesn't matter how they got here, it only matters to pray and wait for our defensive forces to be able to stop the attack of the demons" - said another woman as she started to cry because she didn't know how all this would end.

The men looked at each other before letting out a heavy sigh.

"I think we'd better prepare for the worst" - said one of the shoulders as the others nodded at his words - "We don't know if the knights and adventurers will manage to defeat the demons, so we'd better be ready to die fighting to protect our families."

"Right!" - exclaimed the men as the women ran to their homes so they could check on the children or prepare things to defend themselves, after all, they knew that if they didn't fight much harder than the men, it was possible they would meet a fate far worse than death, as the demons enjoyed making their victims suffer, especially the female ones.

"For our lives!" - The inhabitants of the capital exclaimed.

This cry echoed in every corner of the city, no matter how loudly the people were shouting to gain the courage to raise their arms with weapons.
