Chapter 4 - In The Deep Dark Forest

Daniella and the other girls watched as the wrist of a pale being erupted from beneath the ground amidst screams for help but to no avail. It seemed as if they were locked in a room with no exits. There came the best of the past; the same mystical being they had been warned to live in the dark forests behind the walls of the college.

It had bruises all over its body with blood flowing from every part of its body. It had such long fangs than anything they had ever seen. It eyes glowed like there was fire burning in its body. The girls decided to make a run for it but it was too late.

In a blink of an eye the beast had pounced on Rose devouring her to quench his thirst for blood for it had been buried for centuries. Daniella, Olivia and Isabella took to their heels and headed in every possible direction. With every effort they made they still ended up in the same place; where the concrete slab laid.

"Grrr!! Grrrr!!!", Mia could hear a loud roar as she laid helplessly on the floor. "What could that be?" , she quizzed as she tried lifting herself from the ground. As she gained consciousness, Mia realized she had being tired.

"Help! Help!! Somebody help me please!" Mia shouted as loud as she could but she was deep in the forest away from any civilization. Her friends were no where to be found. She wondered what could have happened to them. "Could it be that had found a way out and left me here alone? Have they being killed by whatever that tired me here?". As she tried releasing herself from her bondage she kept asking herself one question after the other but they was no one to answer any of them.

It felt as if there was someone or something close. She could feel the little hair on her arms tingling though the breeze was soft and couldn't possible cause that feeling. Mia looked around but the forest was too deep for her to see anything apart from the numerous trees that surrounded her.

Mia felt something move behind, she could occasionally hear what seemed like the roar of a wounded lion. As she tried turning her head to make it what it was, she a deep dark voice from behind her. "Don't move. Stay where you are if you want to live." Mia obliged as she trembled out of fear.

"What is your name?", the voice quizzed from behind her. She felt as if whoever it was whispered into her soul. "Mi-a, Mi, Mia", she stuttered as she spoke. The voice replied, "don't be scared. You can turn around now." She slowly turned her head wondering who or what it could be that breathed so aggressively behind her.

She turned to see the face of perhaps the most beautiful young man he had ever seen. The grunting sounds she once heard from behind her had ceased. Puzzled and still shaking from fear Mia asked herself, "who could this man be."

"I am Elijah Salvatore". Mia's heart stopped beating for a little while. "How did he hear my thoughts?". Her heart stated racing again as the mysterious man slowly approached her. He slowly held Mia's knee. She was still bleeding from the bruises she received on her knee when she fell on the slab.

Mia was lost in her thoughts once again. Was this strange man a friend or a foe. He replied once again, "it depends on how you see or treat me". Mia was more confused than before. "What could he mean by that". He took of his hands from her knee. Mia realized that it was now in perfect condition like it was before she fell. Elijah rose from the floor as he looked the beautiful young woman standing in front of her.

Their eyes glowed as they made contact with each other. Mia for a moment felt peaceful in her heart. It was as if she had known Elijah all her life. She felt safe even though she knew she was lost in a dark forest with no hopes of ever getting rescued.

"This cannot be", said Elijah with a loud roar that shock the foundation of the earth beneath her feet. "How is this even possible. She is just but human". Mia knew there was no need to hide her urge to question the young man. He could hear her thoughts. "What is the problem", she asked in a frightened but polite tone.

"This can't be happening, we just zinged", Elijah replied. Mia could feel the earth shake with each syllable that come out of his mouth. "Zinged? What does that mean? Can you explain further?" Mia was getting confused with every word Elijah said. Was she going to get squashed? "No! He looks rather disturbed" she wondered.

Elijah couldn't stick to the ground no more. He begun wandering around Mia. He would head one direction and then turn to the opposite direction with his eyes still feasted on the beautiful young woman. He would occasionally roar while still shouting "this cannot be happening" as he wandered around.

He started running fast and faster among the trees. For whatever reason Mia thought it wise to keep up with him. She didn't know what could be lurking in the shadows. She said to herself, " I am better off with a demon I know than an angel lurking in this forest". Mia run as fast as she could but she could not keep up. "Elijah! Elijah!! Salvatore!!! Mia shouted and shouted but there was no response.

She then saw his shadow far off and run as fast she could in his direction. At this point Mia felt all the fear leaving her body. For the first time in the dark forest, she felt at home. She couldn't understand this new feeling but she was okay for she was safe with this new friend of hers. She gently touched Elijah and asked, "what does it mean to zing".
