Dream
Running, I remember running as fast as I could, my breath loud and painful, then falling I remember falling. I tripped on a rock or my shoe lace and plummeted forward using my hands to cover my face hoping it wouldn't hurt as bad, but I was wrong. I quickly sprung back up and continued to run, something warm and sticky trickled down the side of my face but I couldn't care less. What was I running from? I wondered but was unable to answer, my feet were in control not me. I continued to run till I made it to a large stream of water that led to a waterfall, underneath it was a little gateway.
I ran up to the waterfall and hid underneath. The gap was larger than it looked on the outside, and supplies, wood, a cotton mat, and even a modularized shower all fit inside. My heart calmed slowly, I found a safe place to remain for as long as I needed. I remember laying down on the old cotton mat listening to the sound of the water crashing against itself while splattering on top of the rocks.
I could hear owls, crickets, and baby birds chirping before going to sleep nuzzled and warm underneath their mothers, tears welled up into my eyes. I don't remember what exactly is going on but the deep sadness lingering inside my heart, making my stomach ache.
I got up sitting at the edge of the mat, looking around for a blanket or a coat to keep myself warm. I noticed a large black drape hanging at the entrance, walking toward it I grabbed the drape pulling it to cover the waterfall and blacking out some of the cold that lingered the air making me shiver uncontrollably. Darkness was in my presence but a little glint of light from a newly lit candle, I used some old pieces of paper I found laying around the mat's side. Piling up some wood in the homemade fireplace I finally got a fire going. It didn't take long for the cave to fully warm itself. Taking several deep breaths I pulled enough up in the fire to maybe keep the fire going for at least 6 or 7 hours, I walked back to the mat and layed back down.
My eyes heavy, my heart aching, my mind full of emotional chaos that slowly started tearing me up. I missed my home… I missed my mother… the warmth of my blankets.. The smell of pine from the Christmas tree mom put up way too early… I miss everything for some reason… My eyes closed to the silent crashing waves, and flicker and crackle of the fire, before I knew it, I fell asleep.
