Chapter 14 - Episode 10 - Survival Practice

Kingdom of Arminia, Boarer Forest

Boarer Forest is a Forest that houses many types of boars living in this forest. Adventurers venture here to hunt boars to fulfill the request, mainly from bars and restaurants.

Kurt has taken several days off to take Yuki, Klendiana, and Reynes to the Boarer Forest. His program for agriculture went well, and since the workload has been reduced thanks to management efficiency, he decided to take a break from his post to train his children.

"We have commissions from several restaurants, so we better get some good hauls from Boarthog, Greed Boars, and Dark Boars."

"My spirits already catch some of their presence. I would use this to train Reynes and Klendiana to use spirits since you two have high elves' blood."

"Understood. You two, learn from your mother. I guess you know what to do next, Klendiana?"

"I know, father."

Klendiana began to establish a tent and sprinkle some anti-monster repellant around the camp. She makes her own tent first before making others. Kurt set up some ropes to hang the catch upside down while Yuki gives Reynes some guidance on communicating with spirits.

"Spirits of nature and earth. May the blessing guide us to the better path."

For Yuki, communicating with the spirits becomes her daily routine, even though she was exiled by her own people more than a decade ago. So far, her bond with the spirits that dwell around nature is the strongest amongst the high elves. It gives her another value to see the truth of this world through her own eyes.

The spirits were acting as Reynes was one of them, and thus, Yuki began to train Reynes to bond with the spirit, which came in a flock of transparent butterflies.

Half-elves, described as a mix of human and elf, had difficulty communing with spirits. However, in Yuki's case, Reynes and Klendiana were able to communicate with spirits like high elves without any obstruction.

After setting up the base of operation, Kurt brings them out to hunt the designated target as listed on the request list.

"Two Boarthog nearby…."

Klendiana sense two of the Boarthog and move close to confirm its presence. She looked at the Boarthog from the distance as it was idling around. Boarthog is a boar but with a Warthog's skull. Challenging it head-on means suicide for inexperienced adventurers due to a strong jaw and charging attack. She brings her battle staff and bows for hunting today.

The battle staff Klendiana made is a prototype, as she installed all elements from low-quality gemstone when creating a battle staff with Sage Ore.

"Remember. Don't let these boars notice when they see you. Erase your presence to keep yourself blended in with nature."

With the spirit's assistance, the Lexington Family conceals their presence. The Boarthog ignores them when they see Kurt and Yuki.

Yuki gave a signal to launch an ambush. Klendiana readied her bow and fired an arrow right to the skull of the Boarthog, killing it when the arrow scored a headshot.

The second boarthog was startled, but Reynes stopped its feet with earth magic, and Kurt dashed forward to cut its head off.

"Impressive."

Kurt stores it inside dimensional storage along with the other boarthog that Klendiana took down earlier with a headshot.

"We better give them ready to cook whenever they want, so let's head back to the camp."

Under Kurt's guidance, he taught Reynes how to hang the Boarthog upside down, draining the blood and removing the skin from the body so that the restaurant staff could process it for cooking.

The session went smoothly, and it was time for lunch when the lesson was complete.

"Lunch is ready."

The lunch went on without a hitch, and later, they finished all the requests. However, it's decided that Kurt doesn't want to go back as he wants to teach Reynes and Klendiana more about the essential part of adventurers.

Heading to the forest, Kurt finds some plain slimes and picks them up.

"This slimes is known as a janitor of the world. All creatures would leave janitor slime alone since its duty is to clean up corpses and keep the field clean."

"Isn't this that the guild often put a request for their extermination?"

"Yes, but not this type of slime. A plain-colored one is a janitor slime, where the Latrine Pits also uses slimes to clean up their filth."

"Can this slime be tamed?"

"There's a possibility, yes. But, carrying it would be difficult."

Reynes realizes it, as he may have to make some special compartment for the slimes when on the journey.

"If there's a chance we can tame this slime, we may be able to evolve it into something that Indexa hasn't discovered." He sighs before he continues, "Alas, the risk is also quite high as there were a lot of slimes that need further study."

"So, if we have a tamer, maybe we could ask them if they can tame slimes."

"Yes. However, most likely, the tamers don't want it because they took slime's role very lightly."

"I see."

The next session is to set up some traps as Klendiana and Reynes assist Kurt and Yuki in setting up multiple traps to capture boars.

"Alright. Everything is set here."

"We're set over here as well, Father."

"Excellent. Now we just need to trigger their rage."

A Raboar is a boar that would charge with rage the moment it was annoyed by hunters, rated as D Rank. Hunters and adventurers that were not careful would be rammed until the boar hit the tree or the Raboar stopped.

Its charging speed was recorded at sixty kilometers per hour from the last encounter by the guild staff who accompanied adventurers on the rank-up assignment. It has enough power to injure an A Rank adventurers that were not ready for a fight.

Raboar is the fiercest during the mating season due to its ferocious nature of protecting its young the guild puts a notice on the notice board that Raboar's rating would go as high as A rank during mating season. Adventurers would avoid its territory, but some dare to challenge it because the juicy meat provided by the Raboar becomes a favorite for bars and restaurants, which the requests are often available even in mating season.

Klendiana throws a rock at the Raboar using a rock-throwing spell. Once the Raboar sets its sight on Klendiana, it is enraged and dashes towards Klendiana. She also dashes as fast as she can, luring Raboar to the trap.

"I could have stopped it with a headshot, but I think this is where I can conceal my magic power to a certain extent."

As Klendiana skips through the wire trap, the Raboar trips on it and stumbles. But, it quickly regains speed, and all of a sudden, two logs smash the head from the sides, killing it instantly.

"Why can't I kill it using magic?"

"There were boars that were sensitive to magic. It's also a part of the training to not let your power be revealed in front of others. Enemies and friendlies alike may see you as a threat if you take it down single-handedly. What you experience right now is the hunter's way of catching a Raboar. It would be different if you were in an adventurer's party, you might use your own method to catch it."

"I understand."

After catching another Raboar, they fulfill the quota for the request and skin it up before storing it in an Item Box.

They continued to catch more until the quota of the request was fulfilled.

A King Boar lurks deep inside the woods as it feasts on its fellow body. The boars were afraid of King Boar and made a run for it.
