Mrs. Phellipe adjusted her stance on the chair, propping her ears for the talk he wanted to happen. "Not to appear pushy, but I'd wish that you said what you want to say?"

"You are not being meddlesome right now —" Rochester groaned a sigh — "I did say I needed to talk to you about it first. It's only natural that my muteness gets you upset."

"I am not upset with you," the keeper quickly said.

"Whatever you say to make you feel good. Either one doesn't matter to me. But I do need to talk to you about Hazel. More like questions I want to ask." He sighed.

The woman gave him her silence.

Rochester carried on. "When the midwife got here, what did she say about her state?"

"Is that what you want to know?"
