CHAPTER 25: Illusion

Twilight in Yorthend manor turned out to be creepier than she'd ever experienced it elsewhere. It wasn't because she could hear some owls hooting in the distance or a horde of ravens cooing loudly as they hovered about the house. There was nothing like that. She just felt it was spooky because there were no stars out tonight, not even a tiny beam of light was stamped out in the sky. The soot of the night forever blotted out the twinkles.

The air was cold.

Like the hulk of a mahogany tree, the wind unfurled its pods and angrily shot its seeds at her, slicing through her skin left, right and centre. 

As the assault prevailed, Louisa sighed and stayed with it. She could feel the marks, the traces of invisible cuts on the places on her skin where the wind had attacked.

It was her face that was suffering the most. Her face and her fingers were most vulnerable to the sharp needle prick sensations.

She continued out in the cold.
