As the afternoon was drawing to a close, Gu Shaoting called Shu Pan ahead of time, wanting to arrange dinner out with her.
He simply wanted to have a lovely time together as a couple, but why was it so hard?
"If you have no social obligations, come home for dinner, darling. It's less expensive, cleaner than eating out, and the kids haven't seen you for a long time." Shu Pan's reasoning was truly irrefutable.
"Alright, shall I pick you up and we head home?" Gu Shaoting, still hopeful, continued.
"No need, I've arranged for the driver to pick me up today." After saying this, Shu Pan hung up the phone.
Gu Shaoting stared at his suddenly blackened phone screen, dumbfounded and somewhat at a loss. Shu Pan must be angry, he assumed.
Before heading home, Gu Shaoting stopped by a dessert shop to buy a box of cakes and then went to a flower shop and purchased a bunch of "forget-me-nots," which the shop assistant said symbolized an apology—perfect for making amends.
