Indominus Rex (Gen 2) Egg is about to hatch (00:00:30)
)
"Hehehe, it's almost done," I said happily, pacing around the carriage that held my egg as it trembled and shook. My tail wagged unconsciously, though I was too excited to notice.
Olena hadn't been near me much lately. I think she was helping the injured. Nulez mentioned that they were short on people to assist the doctors, and Olena had volunteered to help.
While she spent her time tending to the wounded and assisting wherever needed, I mostly stayed near my egg or patrolled the camp. But nothing noteworthy ever happened. Even when a random wolf pack stumbled upon the camp, the elves hidden in the trees swiftly took care of them before they became a threat.
The camp had its own hunters, but most were either too young or too inexperienced to take on something as dangerous as a wolf. Many of the skilled hunters had been killed by the humans, while others were too injured.
Food supplies were running low, with over 52 mouths to feed. Of the 13 hunters in camp, maybe 3 were capable of hunting effectively, but even they had little luck. On a good day, they might bring back one or two deer, but that was hardly enough. Most of their time in the forest was spent foraging for berries for food, while others focused on gathering herbs to replenish their dwindling supply of medicine.
The elves occasionally helped, but only through trade. Unfortunately, the camp had little to offer, just some furs and a handful of scrounge-up coins. It wasn't much of a bargaining tool.
I also noticed that nearly everyone here lacked proper skills for the work they were doing. Even the two doctors barely knew more than the rest; they had simply been lucky enough to read a book about medicine.
But I supposed that was to be expected. Everyone here had once been slaves, trained for nothing more than moving objects from point A to point B. Sure, some knew basic tasks like cooking or mending clothes, but the quality was poor. They had never been given the chance to learn or refine real skills.
There wasn't much I could do to help. My hands were too big for sewing, and while I could assist with hunting, my sheer size made it difficult. Most hunting paths were too narrow for me, and I didn't want to crash through the forest, knocking down trees and angering the elves. The last thing I needed was them getting mad at me over a few broken branches.
There was one elf girl who kept bothering me, and I had no idea why. She constantly tried to get closer, both to me and my egg. She even brought me meat, which I accepted since it was free, but each time, she would jot something down in a little black book.
Once, while patrolling the camp, I 'almost' blasted her with a ball of plasma when she tried to move my egg. But even after that, she kept trying to get close, even when a small soccer ball-sized ball of plasma landed next to her feet and caught parts of her shoes and pants on fire. She panicked, but she brought out a vial containing a white foamy substance and poured it over the fire, which quickly snuffed it out.
But I stopped all of my thinking as I heard a small cracking noise coming from my egg. Looking towards it, I saw it shaking a lot as cracks started to spread throughout the entire egg.

"Rwaa, rwa!"
Standing in front of me, trying its best to find its balance, was a small Indominus Rex, about the size of a large dog. Its body was almost entirely black, with faint white and yellow stripes barely visible along its back. A row of small black spikes ran down its spine, from the tip of its tail to the top of its head.
What confused me, though, was the thick layer of black feathers covering its body. Near the base of its neck and arms, a few small quills jutted out. Looking closer at its hands, I noticed its black claws, which looked very sharp.
"Oh, you look so cute! Come here, aww, who's a good boy? Who wants some scratches? You do, you do!"
Carefully, I picked up my little Indominus Rex, rubbing him against my face. Taking a quick peek at his stats, I confirmed that he was, in fact, a boy. I gave him a gentle belly rub, and he responded with small, happy chirps.
"Oooh, what should I name you? What do you think, boy? Do you have any ideas?"
I wasn't sure why I even asked, he simply stared at me with curiosity before tilting his head. Probably an empty-headed little thing.
"Mmm, let's take a closer look at you," I mused, observing him carefully. "You're kinda scary-looking… I bet most people would either run away or fear you. But what do I want you to be? A hunter? No, you'll grow to my size eventually. Maybe a tracker…? Nah."
Then, an idea struck me.
"Oh, I have the perfect name for you, my little killer."
Gently setting him down, I lay beside him, stroking his head.
"Tyrant. That's your new name," I whispered. "You're my first and only child… for now. But that will change. You'll be their big brother… and you'll destroy anything that stands in their way." Though it was still a bit too young to understand what Erina was saying, it replied by giving a small chirp.
As I spoke, a new notification appeared before me.

Sending Egg to [Hatchery]
—
[Another world I know nothing about…]
I racked my brain, trying to recall anything about the Monster Hunter world, but barely anything came to mind.
[Man, sometimes I wish I played more of the video games my brother loved so much. Oh well… I'll just have to wait for it to hatch, I guess.]
Opening up the [Hatchery], I checked the timer, it would take two weeks for the egg to hatch.
[If that's the case, I'm guessing all common eggs take around two weeks… but now I wonder how long the higher rarities take. Oh god, I just pray legendary eggs won't take years to hatch…]
Unfortunately for Erina, she was absolutely right. Legendary eggs would take years to hatch. But for how much exactly, that's unknown for now.
[Ugh, I don't even want to think about it.]
Shifting my gaze to Tyrant, I watched as he spun in circles, desperately trying to catch his own tail, only to trip over a rock and face-plant into a pile of mud. He simply shook himself off and, as if nothing had happened, took off after a butterfly that had caught his attention.
The problem? He ran straight into the camp.
People scattered in fear, but his dumbass was too fixated on the butterfly to even notice.
[Did I choose the right name for him?] I thought, already regretting my decision as I watched him run headfirst into the only tree in the entire camp.
Huffing, I shook my head and slowly made my way toward Tyrant.
