Yunis had told me that the pre-scholling for this time around was already concluded. But due to certain complications it would be held again for 2 students. Me and another. Before scurrying away, she commented me and that girl makes a perfect pair.
Upon my arrival two pair of eyed were casted my way in utter silence.
" You are truly special Mr. Drakon. Showing up late in your first class."
The woman who said that had crimson strands of hair. For a moment there I mistook her mane for fire. She was with Yunis when we first met along with the other three. Light freckles ran a line across her nose. Her green eyes reminded me of the purest jade. She was wearing a laced dark red dress. A shade darker than her hair. Was she supposed to take the class?
" Sorry. I overslept a little. I was too tired. Yesterday had been too crazy for me." I excused shamelessly. Obviously I couldn't expose that majority of my exhaustion was contributed from ferocious sexual intercourse.
" Not only for you." She snorted. " I'm professor Hildr. I'll be your only teacher through your pre-scholling. She is your classmate, Natalie. " Professor Hildr pointed.
She must have meant the only girl sitting alone in one of the rows of desks with her books and tools out. Wall sconces burned bright to compensate for the lack of much sunlight out of the clerestories. There were candlebrums across every table but only the one where Natalie sat held long shimerring white candles so I naturally moved towards light as professor Hildr instructed me to.
I rested my ass near to where Natalie was sitting. She was wearing the same shirt as I, a black skirt slightly above her knee length and indigo knee length stocks. A thought flashed through me that the school was obsessed with dark color schemes. Even the walls were washed black.
" Hey!" I greeted the newbie witch as a fellow wizard. The dull silvery lustre of her hair that gave the ambience of a sharp sword piqued my interest. She let her long mane droop down along her back.
She didn't even bother to bat an eye at me as she completely ignored my existence as a whole. My smiling lips twitched.
" Destroyed! Aha! ha! ha!" Scraggy cackled with laughter.
" Strap your mouth!" I warned begrudgingly. This girl! I inhaled deeply to maintain my calm demeanor and not to look bugged by her behavior towards me.
Are all the women here so haughty except Yulva? If so it would be difficult living here among them.
Hildr clapped her hands to grab attention.
" So we can officially begin your pre-schooling now. As it's your first class, I won't be asking any question today. So just shut up and listen to what I say. You must be provided with two books." She showed us a book with red cladding and another with purple, both of which Natalie had the same. But I didn't, so my hand shot up to the sky.
" Excuse me professor. It so happens that
I didn't receive my scholastic materials."
" What may you be talking about Lyke. Look down."
I did as I was told and looked down. Fresh books were on the desk. Great. Since the day started, everyone's been trying to make me look like a baboon. I said sorry with a distorted smile sticked to my face.
" If you are done wasting my time then let's begin. That purple book is your contemporary history. Come to page 12." She said.
I skipped to page 12. In bold letters, the ink drafted page read, " Tree of the 2". A picture of a symmetrical tree was embedded into the page. Right half of the tree was bright and the left was dark.
Hildr cleared her throat. The classroom was so massive and so empty, the voices vibrated round the room in echoes.
" Unknown years ago, it was believed that there existed a tree. " Tree of the 2." One portion of the tree basked in the sunlight, it's roots digging into fresh water. It soaked all the happiness, warmth, health and positivity of the world. Lot's of green leaves spirited out of the branches and the part of tree was blessed with several colorful fruits. While the other half received eternal darkness. Under the dark of the night and red of the moon, it's roots conceived nutrition from stenching and rotting blood. It soaked all the cold, evil, pestilence, woe and negativity of the world. Wilted and withered in appearance, gifted with no leaves, but it too bore a fruit. A single fruit. As black as the endless night. It stinked of a thousand corpses.
" The fruits born from the light turned into the light lords. The black fruit born of the darkness turned into the dark lord."
My eyes and ears were in full assiduity. I absorbed each and every word spoken by Hildr, afraid to miss out on a single world.
" The half of the world that prospered rapidly, the light lords claimed for themselves and pushed the dying part of the world to The Dark Lord." She said referring to the book. I don't know how much of it were true yet it irked me a little.
" Now I'll talk to you about the origins of mages.
For centuries, there were no disputes between the light lords and The dark lord. But how long would that last? The light lords had everything yet still they greeded for more. They sent their pilgrims, the light mages into the lands of The dark lord to spread their false doctrines and coalesce the people of the dark lands with the land of the lights. This earned the wrath of our lord. He deployed his servants, the dark mages and an all out war broke out between the two factions. This enmity tailgated down the ages and the strain still continues."
For each sentence I heard, the more engrossed I became in it. The lore continues.
