Chapter 34 - CHAPTER 33: Please don’t follow us.

One of the otter student noticed how Sirin was staring in a certain direction.

"What is it?" The relatively short boy asked.

Sirin briefly glanced at the mortal speaking to him. "Nothing much… I hope."

"Yea Sirin, what is it?" Hendrik asked while he didn't let the demon out of his sight for even a moment.

"Is there another way for these spirits to move on or something? Because there is a large amount of them going the same way only to disappear when they reach it." Sirin asked already quite suspicious of what might be there.

"Shit!" One of the students hissed. "I think the other groups may have brought offerings and flags with powerful formations to lure the spirits. I thought we would be fine since we had you and would thus be a lot quicker than if we carried all the extra stuff."

"And you didn't tell me that stuff existed in the first place? Come on, do you know how useful that is?" Sirin shouted out after finding out he could actually lure spirits towards him. When the right moment arrived, he could gather so much more souls like that.

Hendrik pressed his hand on Sirin's mouth so that he wouldn't be able to ask more about the bait they used.

"Then which direction do we have to go?" He asked Sirin after he freed him from his grasp.

A now slightly annoyed Sirin could only sigh and lead the way.

As the ran through the woods, they encountered a few zombie like people. For the students they just appeared either dangerously high or drunk if they were even moving at all since the most of them almost appeared to be dead.

The group would just move past them as fast as they could. There wasn't much that they could do right now, and if these people really needed help, then the teachers would come to help them instead. Furthermore, the most of them were extremely aggressive as well. One of them even chased them for a few kilometres with foam dripping down his mouth.

But Sirin saw the truth. These people were soulless. The only reasons why they were more aggressive than the soulless humans trapped in hell was because their bodies were in a much better sate. Furthermore, Sirin was traveling with a bunch of humans, needles to say they didn't chase after Sirin but his human companions.

Sometimes when a human is forced to live on without their soul, they would try to replace theirs with that of another human, driving them to go on a killing spree. However, their goals were unreachable since human hands couldn't hold souls. They would need a demon to help them. And even if they succeeded Sirin couldn't imagine what it would be like to live with someone else's soul.

Eventually Sirin was sick of it. Even if they got a lot more spirits if they moved to the same point, it wasn't worth the risk.

"Alight enough." He spoke as he stopped running and instead completely halted his steps.

"What? Did you get scared? I'm sure that there are a lot more dead people when we get closer to the bait."

"Ow quit whining about the dead! Why do you humans keep thinking they're a big deal? No, I'm worried about what is verry much alive and waiting for us when we get to the bait" Sirin sneered.

"Yea one of the other groups. I get that they will be angry, but it won't be that much trouble." One of the other students answered.

"Shut up! All of you! Just let me finish." Sirin was starting to lose his patience. Even if he could draw some energy from human foods, he hadn't eaten a soul ever since he got here, so he was basically starving. The fact that he had to watch how the others 'stole' his food away from him didn't help.

"There is no human standing next to the bait and taking all these spirits. Its another demon. A creature that, like me crawled out of hell and is probably having the time of its life right now."

None of the student took his yelling serious with of course the exception of Hendrik. How could they? The verry concept of a demon and most likely hell was unfamiliar to them. Otherwise, they wouldn't be standing in front of him right now.

"So what?" The girl in the yellow uniform asked. "Yea you are a bit bigger than us, and your eyes creep me out. But you're not so bad."

"That is because I'm basically still a child. But if that other demon is any older than me than it is an unpredictable force of nature that we can't risk facing unless you want to lose some of the verry parts of yourself that make you, you."

The girl pushed him to the side. "Sure, I don't care what to others offered you. But we wont fall for your pathetic attempts at sabotaging our hunt. Whether you want to leave or not we will continue."

With that she started to move towards where they suspected the sprit bait was. She was never planning on actually going there since it would let the other group know that they were kill stealing. But now she was curious whether or not there really was another demon.

As the croup continued their pass Sirin grabbed Hendrik by the shoulder. "Look I'm sorry for our little quarrel back then. But please believe me now. I have trouble seeing other demons with my soul appraisal so there might just be some weird person that for some reason got their soul all screwed up. But just in case there is another demon, please don't follow us."

He pushed Sirin's hand off his shoulder. "If I really have to believe you, then you are all walking into a death trap and you will need all the help you can get. I will forgive you for our fight and maybe even the fucking people you ate. But I'm coming with."
