Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Getting to the door was easy, but the guards would probably be able to sense me quickly. I waited until they both passed each other at the very center and opened the door, closing it quietly and hearing their footsteps pause.

I held my breath, leaning against the door for a minute until they were gone.

It was crazy. I was always on these dangerous missions even when they just started. But once this part was done then I could rest for a minute and plan my next move on how to survive this place. I wasn't sure how long I was staying here but I knew I couldn't risk making any mistakes.

The cabin was a huge office area, papers scattered everywhere and the door on the other side of the room was closed, most likely locked. I couldn't risk touching anything that would give my identity away.

Making my way across the room, dodging both the windows and the papers on the floor, I made it over to the desk. A small clipboard sat on the desk with a pen and I quickly picked it up and started writing my name on the last part of the paper.

I had to be fast, making it over to the window and looking out it. The guards were about to pass each other. As they passed each other, I went over to the door and opened it, slowly closing it and sneaking away from the cabin.

As I made my way back to the girls line, I could see the headmaster talking to the girl right beside me. I was next. I rushed to my clone, replacing it with my body and letting it disappear and be replaced by me. I became uninvisible just as I stepped in for the clone.

"And you." He continued, looking in my direction. He stopped in a brief movement, narrowing his eyes. I could sense others looking in our direction and I gulped. "You...You weren't on the list. I don't remember looking up your information." He said.

I lifted my hand to my back where no one would be able to see it then I followed the spell. Left, Right, Up, Down, Snap.

"That must be a mistake, sir. I had my name sighed on the paper. I was a late signer but you can check your list, it's on there."

He lifted his head as the spell started working. He then looked at me again. Did it not work? Maybe the spell was wrong.

"Mhm, okay." He then turned his back towards us, "The cabins for you all is on the right side of the camp. You have today to rest, no killing until tomorrow, and get yourselves ready. Tomorrow will be rough for you all." He stated, looking over his shoulder, his eyes glaring at us, at me, and then turned back and walked off.

I sighed with relief, picking up my bag and started walking towards the right side of camp. I could feel everyone behind me staring at me before whispers spread through the group.

"You really did it, huh." The elf girl walked up to me, "But you were loud. I could tell that clone of yours wasn't you. I could hear you in the cabin signing your name. I was holding my breath that you would make it in time." She admitted.

"Why?" I asked, "Wouldn't me being gone make it easier for you to slim down the rest of these people?" I mentioned.

She nodded, "Well yeah but that would also mean that I used my energy helping you on the waggon for no reason. I don't help people if I know there is no way they will be able to pay me back for the help."

I snickered, "Thanks, makes me feel special."

"You should." She stated, "I would have left anyone else there to get caught. Something about you is special though. I didn't hear you until you got to the bushes by the trail. I should have heard you way before that."

I chuckled slightly, "Beats me, I have no idea why. I wasn't trying to be quiet, just unseen. Guess I should have been doing both."

She didn't speak for a minute as we got closer to the cabins.

"I don't think I ever got your name."

I smiled, "Morana."

"Well Morana." The elf girl patted out her skirt and started walking ahead of me, not even looking at me as she spoke. "I would watch out if I were you. Being friends doesn't mean I wouldn't kill you. Don't test me."

I glared, knowing her words were true. She could have killed me. She can't for until sunrise tomorrow and no one would be sleeping tonight for sure. Didn't matter to me. I could go three days without sleeping. Any more and I would be to weak to cast spells.

But as she stared to leave to one of the cabins, I stopped her.

"You didn't tell me your name, elf girl."

She stopped, looking over her shoulder so her icy blue gaze fell on me with a threat.

"Natalie."

"Well, Natalie, I don't plan on losing. Don't underestimate me. That's usually why people get killed from me."

She didn't speak. Then, as she raised her hand and snapped it in my direction, I lifted my hand and watched as the object she threw was surrounded by purple and no longer moved towards me. She had thrown a knife, and I used my magic to catch it.

She turned around and smiled as if she had won, "I bet."

I watched as she left. I didn't move as the others moved past me and picked the cabins they wanted. This was the beginning.
