Chapter 42 - 42. Rescue

"Doll." He breathed out, taking off his large suit jacket, and swung it in the air like a magnificent cape. It fluttered in the wind as he placed it upon her shoulders. Immediately after, he pulled her into his arms in a tight hug that nearly crushed her bones.

"You're safe. I'm here." His first sentence was from the relief of finding her alive. The next was an apology of arriving too late and putting her in this state. He didn't know what else to say, for what could be said at this moment?

He reach as soon as possible to her cellphone's location, but he have to say the kidnapper really had some brain. They throw the cellphone in completely opposite direction of this place.

He have to use his resources to find her which is quit time consuming.

Mahi's arms were still wrapped around her stomach. The familiar feeling of being enveloped in his arms had calmed her heart. Her eyes tiredly fluttered close. Slowly, softly, she became unconscious in his arms.

Faint screaming could be heard in the background, the voice she always wanted to hear kept telling her to stay awake. But the sound was getting farther and farther until her entire world of black became quiet.

...

A week trickled by and Mahi was still unconscious.

'Why hasn't she woken up?!'

Avatar was growing impatient at the lack of progress. He anxiously paced back and forth in her hospital room. He had walked this same path repeatedly day and night during the past seven days.

He gritted his teeth and his jaw tightened. He hated this place. He hated the familiar smell of the hospital disinfectant. This place reminded him of the last time she was hospitalized.

Two times. He had arrived too late two times. And both times, someone had been able to harm her.

He had run his hand enough through his hair out of frustration that it had remained perpetually disheveled. He had always had a hard time falling asleep, and with Mahi's current condition, he had spent almost every minute of the past week awake.

He lifted his head to glance at the motionless woman on the bed, his heart prickling when he saw her beautiful eyelids were still shut. He couldn't help but think back to the night he had found her in the warehouse.

The relief he had felt to have her alive in his arms was immediately replaced by terror when she became unconscious and no matter how much he tried to wake her up, her lids were tightly closed. He had never felt so terrified of losing someone until that night. When he had reluctantly released her, he found himself covered in her blood.

Because of her excessive blood loss and bruised body, he was horrified when he watched a new team of doctors enter the surgery room mid-operation. The injuries she sustained on her head, neck, and abdomen placed her in critical condition.

As he anxiously waited outside the operating room, memories of the night flashed by his mind. He would never forget the way his heart stopped beating when her eyes rolled back and her body slumped against his. He would never forget how she looked at him, heartbroken with his rejection, as his feet remained glued to the spot.

...

The Presidential Suite floor.

The elevator opened.

A group of bodyguards and hotel employees escorted a good-looking man out.

The man had strong and cold features, and every part of his face was inexplicable perfection.

At a height of at least 1.86 meters, his stature and body proportion were better than that of a runway model!

He was wearing a tailormade, fitting suit, with a titanium cufflink that glistened splendidly under the chandelier.

The black suit encased his long legs as he strode elegantly and stopped before a room. A bodyguard then swiftly stepped forward to open the door.

The man entered the room, undid his tie and tossed it towards the wardrobe.

He was only two steps in when he felt an odd surge of warmth. Then, "click"—the door was locked from the outside.

He was a little caught by surprise and his brows were knitted. He reached for the knob and pulled it downwards.

It didn't work.

Now, that man have a strange feeling. He is suddenly feeling hot. He was drugged.

Karthik stood outside the bathroom with a solemn look.

The sound of water could be heard from Inside the bathroom. someone was there.

His lips were distorted at a strange, stiff angle. A moment later, he pushed the door open.

Thick clouds of mist escaped through the door. A woman was humming softly behind that white veil of water droplets, over and over again like a little kitten.

His feet were rooted.

As the mist dispersed, the scene became clearer to him.

There was a woman sitting in the bathroom.
