She picked up the elegant American Beauty rose and sniffed it. Its fragrance was sweet and alluring.
Eve unwrapped the note and read, "I'm sorry. Please forgive my insensitivity. I love you and perpetually will."
Brad unlocked his door and wheeled his bicycle into the auditorium. He peered at the rose and note in her hand and mumbled,
"What did he do?"
"What makes you think—"
"Because he left gifts outside your door and because previous night when I let him out, he looked dejected as hell."
"Oh."
Brad evaluated her from head to toe. "Another truck run you over?"
With one hand on her hip she asserted, "Yeah. I simply washed off the blood, so the paramedics wouldn't have to."
He cackled and began to open the front door.
"Oh, let me get that for you." Eve strode to the huge front door and clasped it open.
"Thanks," he asserted as he wheeled his bike down the steps.
