It was a long trip, but one that was worth it. Seeing first hand the buildings built with skill, without the help of advanced machinery was always a beautiful thing to see.
Obviously, many of the castles were built with the help of the magic of this world, and how many of them were not made that way? But still, the structure and its nuances, as well as the passage of time, give it both charm and dirt.
Kaer Morhen is a very well built fortress, which by treachery managed to be invaded and almost destroyed. But its structure shows that if there were enough people here, it could return to its splendor.
Now you don't have to, I have arrived, and I can alone return this beautiful fortress to its apex, all it takes is some help from Vesemir to get some logs and stones. But first, let's enter this historical monument of this world.
I began to notice how similar it was to what I saw in The Witcher 3 game. The training ground was very similar, the entrance, there was not a shred of change and the inside of the fort was pretty much the same.
Each floor was well decorated, although some were in ruins or closed off because of the risk of collapse, but it was very similar to what was shown in the games.
Vesemir told me that I could use the last room of the 4th floor corridor, where the rooms currently used by the last Witcher of the School of the Wolf were. There were six rooms on that floor, and the one next to me was reserved for Geralt's daughter.
I just shrugged, for to him, I know nothing of this world, and so I want it to remain. My arrival has already caused some complicated changes, and I don't want more of them to occur for the time being.
After arranging the few things I had, I go downstairs to find the old witch fixing something in the kitchen area. I join him as I watch him wash a few pieces of meat, I prepare some grains and a sauce to season the meat.
Once the food was ready, we sat down and enjoyed the good food, while he told me a little about the things that happened at this fort.
"I could help repair it, but I need you to get me lots of logs and stone, if possible, whatever mortar this world has to keep the walls and floors fixed. Since I don't know if it exists in this world, I leave it in your hands."
I tell him, with the man looking at me a little curious and quite interested.
"May I ask how you are going to fix everything?" he asks.
"Well, I could tell you that I'm a great builder, but that would be a giant lie, so I'll just say that magic will do the work." I answer, and drink some more of the beer to help settle the food in my stomach.
"It will take a little time, but I can get you that stuff soon, I just need to go to Ard Carraigh to get that stuff. It may not seem like it, but at least there, we still have a little credibility and respect." he says.
"That being the case, I can use this time to study the magic of that world and see what I can use from my old world here. I have some ideas that could go a long way in keeping this place safe, but I want to know first if it works." I inform him.
"I will leave the day after tomorrow to get the things you need, I should be back in two weeks at most. There is food and drink stocked so feel free to do that. The library is in that hallway, first door on the left." he points.
"Thank you Vesemir, for your help and stay," I thank the old man from the bottom of my heart.
"You are putting this place back to its glory, this becomes as much your home as mine. Now if you don't mind, I'll take my old bones for a bath and rest. Make yourself at home," he says, getting up and leaving.
I stayed for another two minutes, lost in random thoughts, until I gathered up all the dishes we used to use and went to wash them. It was a custom, one I didn't lose even after having Dobby in my house.
'I miss that little troublemaker, I hope he can follow what I told him,' that was my only thought, as I washed the pots.
After that, I went to the library, and almost lost my lungs. There was so much dust, I was almost imploded by the amount I inhaled when I entered. After waving my wand, to eliminate the dirt, I began my research.
There were many books related to magic, and even more about runes and such. It was my luck that I always kept in my bag a copy of every book I read and studied, both at Hogwarts and after.
I kind of knew when my death would be, because somehow, I can feel it. If I hadn't died saving Sirius that day, I would have died at Valdemart's hands soon after. I could feel it.
But that's okay, I enjoyed that world as much as I could, and now it's time to enjoy this one.
-----
I had been studying the tomes and books in the library for a week, and I discovered some very fascinating things during this.
The rune spells, they work the same way as in the other world, because the magic understands what the rune means. It's as if they are interconnected by the magic itself. So I can use them in the best way I can.
A lot of my spells, they are stronger because of how chaotic the magic of this world is. The conjunction of the spheres created a denser magic, more uncontrollable, much stronger. It's as if the magic density of several worlds met here.
Apparation doesn't work because the density of the ambient magic is so heavy. Apparation creates a tube in magic, connecting one place to another, but here, because of the density, it is impossible.
Portals, on the other hand, are the fastest things to do. Just think of the place and imagine the door, the portal is just that. It is said to be very unstable, because in this world most people don't use a magic focus.
My wand serves as a focus, but unfortunately, the magic in this world is overwhelming it, I will need to create a staff or reinforce the wand with magic absorbing metals and magic gems.
This world doesn't have much of that, but it's not hard to do, just write the right runes. So I'll work on that first, and when it's time to recover the fortress, I'll be better prepared.
