"Yesterday night, over twenty-five death were reported at a local boarding school near Town's International hospital. According to the reports from the Investigator, it's the same organisation behind the hijack..." The Broadcast continues, as a brown skinned girl with curly brown hair and glowing hazel eyes, sits in the darkroom watching it.
The door creaked open calling out the girl's name.
"We are getting pretty famous aren't we, Skylar?" A man said walking into the room with a malicious smile.
"I guess so..." Skylar sighed.
"What with the frown? Do you hate this? You know you shouldn't right?" He stared into her soul, his eyes were wide open.
She was trembling in fear, she couldn't look away yet, wanted to run away from all this. She responded to him with "No, I love it" in fear of losing her life. She didn't want to answer it, but she had no choice, but to follow his rules and his steps. He gave her a death scare as he left the room, shutting the door close. A few minutes pass by, she pulled herself together, switching off the television, She laid down on the couch when her phone started buzzing. she saw a message from her only friend in the organisation, James. She picked up the phone and replied with a "Hey, James"
The instant he saw her reply, he called her not hesitating for a second, Skylar picked up the ringing phone. When she heard a trembling voice asking her if she was okay. She replied to him with a casual "I'm fine", he sighed in relief as he heard her, knowing that everything was okay.
"Are you really okay? because I saw William walking into your room" He asked wanting to make sure she wasn't lying.
"What did he say to you? I really want to know! Could you please explain it, Skylar? I'm worried, and please don't lie" He added, eagerly wanting to comfort her.
"What can you possibly do, if I say I'm not okay? Nothing right!? Then don't ask anything...I'm tired of everything!" She asked angrily, eyes filled with guilt.
"Sorry for bothering you, I just thought I could help you, bye," He said and hang up.
She looked at her phone, her tears blurred her vision.
"What am I doing? He is always beside me and yet...I don't deserve a friend like you, I really don't" She cried hugging her pillow. She closed her mouth shut with the pillow and screamed so that no one could hear her cry. She curled herself into the couch, holding her pillow tight. That's when she heard a knock on her door, which made her to react fast in fear, only to realise that William wouldn't bother to knock.
"May, I come in?" A voice outside the door asked.
"Yeah..."
"Skylar"
"What are you doing here?" She asked like she never cared.
"I'm sorry, but I came here to check on you" He closed the door and sat next to her. Skylar's eyes filled, she can't understand why she felt a pain in her chest lifting.
"Skylar...You know you are not alone, don't you?" James comforted her.
"I do know I'm not alone, James. I just wish we were not involved in this, I don't know what to do?" Skylar said as she wiped her tears.
"Don't worry, we might still have a chance to live a normal life" James gently smiles as his eyes speak 'don't worry.
"What do you mean by we still have a chance? Even if everything changes, even if we are freed from this organisation, we are and we will be recognised as murderers, who's gonna give back the lives we took!?" She said clenching her fist, blaming herself.
"EVEN IF WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY INTENTION TO KILL THEM, WE STILL CAN'T ERASE THE SCARE WE LEFT IN THEM AND THEIR LOVED ONES" Skylar screamed out her throat as water droplets dripped down from her eyes, down to her cheeks.
"Don't scream, you will get in big trouble if he hears it. I understand what you are trying to tell, and it hurts, it really do hurt, but p-please don't give up yet. We s-still..." His voices started cracking, as he knows deep down somewhere there is no hope, but at the same time he had hope. He wanted Skylar to have a little hope and faith in herself, he is tired of how things aren't how they thought they would be, but he as to move on and find help to do whatever it takes to protect her.
"Bye, I should leave now. See you tomorrow at the headquarter." James said walking up to the door, trying not to make eye contact with her, because he didn't want her to see how terrified he was.
"Sorry...I was a little rude to you on the call, all these things were giving me a headache. Thanks for checking up on me, I really appreciate it." Skylar softly smiled, James turn around and waved her goodbye with a gentle smile, closing the door. She then walks up to the door locking it, leaning her back on the door, and slowly sits down as she begins to cry, resting her head on her knees.
"I wish I could do better," She said as she felt her eyes shutting down, next thing she knew was lights binding her eyes, she slowly opens to see the sunrise. She hears an announcement "Everyone please head to the headquarters in five minutes. Please hurry up"
"Shit, I'm late," She said getting out of the bed, she quickly starts dressing herself and ran to the hallway, forgetting to close the door. She reached at the headquarter, which was three minutes away from her room.
She looked at her watch to realise she messed up, She walked to her seat pretending like nothing happened, which is until William called out to her, as he was displeased with her action. She nervously looked up to him trembling, she felt heavy in the chest. She tried to calm herself down, she finally got control of her emotions, when William once again smiled maliciously, staring into her soul, declaring "Skylar, I'm giving you a personal mission since I know how loyal you are to the poison predator"
She shivered down her spine, knowing that he was not only making fun of her but also giving her a mission that would traumatise her. Her ego of not wanting to let herself down made her look back at him, with a smirk as she gladly thank him for letting her do the mission.
William on the other side didn't like her action much.
"You seemed to be energetic even though you are trembling down your knees, right Skylar?"
"You totally got it wrong, professor. Just like you said I'm loyal to the poison predator and I don't think I'm trembling, it more felt like I'm excited, I'm thankful you choose me for this role, I won't forget this" Skylar answered courageously. She, herself has no idea how she spilled out what she said, but she felt like she opened up something she has been holding back for a while.
As she was about to continue, William's assistant stopped her and said "Sorry, but we have to start the meeting now"
She frustratedly sighed and took a seat. "That was something," She said to herself, feeling brave yet sad knowing that she have to kill someone in order to complete her mission as usual. She then looked around only to realise that each and everyone in that room is a victim of William's selfishness. She felt anger boiling through every part of her body, she wanted to save everyone in that room, but she felt hopeless knowing that her life was also on the line. She snapped out of her thoughts as she heard a woman crying and begging to let her daughter free. One of William's assistant walked up to the lady's daughter who was handcuffed and a piece of cloth covered her mouth, making her unable to talk or speak.
William's assistant pointed the gun to the girl's head as ordered, waiting for William to give a signal to shoot.
"Please let her go, she is the only one left for me" The women cried and screamed in pain. Skylar at the other side could see the women's pain. She felt hurt as if she was the one pointing the gun at the little girl.
"YOU HAVE ALREADY TOOK MY HUSBAND AND MY TWO SONS, NOW PLEASE DON'T TAKE HER AWAY FROM ME TOO, I BEG YOU! I WILL ASSASSIN THE RICHARD FAMILY TODAY, PLEASE GIVE ME SOME TIME" The woman screamed out her throat. William was quite annoyed and in his point of view, she was just being dramatic. He looked around to Skylar, pointing her to come near him. She walked looking down to the floor knowing something terrible is gonna happen. William then called out his assistant and handed her a gun.
"This is your mission, Skylar. Put an end to this quickly" William looked at her. He then turned around to the lady, demanding Skylar to kill the lady here and now.
"W-wh-what do you want me to do?" She shuttered as the gun dropped to the ground. She quickly took it up without thinking twice.
"Please kill her quickly, I don't have time for her drama's" He replied as if it was getting boring.
"B-But" She hesitated.
"Do you want to die?" His words made her walk to the lady faster, she pointed the gun to the lady's head. Her hands were shaking, she wanted to run away. She felt like a selfish person who want to hold on to her own life rather than saving another person.
"Where did my will of saving everyone in this room go?" She thought to herself, looking down to floor eyes filled with droplets of water, still pointing the gun at that innocent woman.
She set up the rifle and took aim to the woman's forehead once again, when the woman begged, not for her own life but for her child's. Skylar was shocked to hear the woman's words, that she stopped pointing the gun, as the woman told her "Please, take care of her. Please whoever you are, save her from this place. She doesn't deserve it, neither does anyone here in this room. I know you don't want to do this to me or anyone, I feel sorry for you, but I know you have no choice but to kill me here and now"
"I'm really sorry" Skylar replied, she kept a cold face, which hide her emotion from everyone else. She look at the crying woman as she triggered the gunshot onto the woman's forehead. She heard the sound of the gunshot but her vision seemed to be blurred out. She felt dizzy yet kept on the cold expression, she could hear the woman's daughter crying. Skylar tightly closed her eyes and open them to get a clear vision of what's going on, only to realise her shoes seemed wet, she looked down to find out that she was standing on bright red liquid, she felt nauseous and she couldn't feel herself as she started to get traumatised realising she was not standing on a regular red liquid rather she was standing on the blood of the person she murdered. She sat down in disbelieve with her whole body trembling. She could still hear a little girl's voice from behind, but she couldn't look at her because she was completely lost. She couldn't take her eyes of the woman she killed. She felt light-headed, but she grabbed on to her ego. She heard footsteps approaching her.
"Thank you, Skylar, you are indeed a loyal assistant", William said placing his right hand on her shoulder, leaving her behind with the victim, she killed. Walking out of the headquarter as nothing happened, everyone left one by one, yet she couldn't take her eyes of that woman. James walked up to her and said "Let's go, It's not like she will come back alive"
She eventually stood up and left, she walked on the stairs to get to her room, but before she was able to enter, she collapsed on the ground.
