Jessy whispers a silent prayer that he will reveal his heavy burden to her, so she can help him solve his disheartened condition. When he said, "You know you are not the prettiest girl in the world."
Jessy chuckled in her heart, "I am very conscious of the fact, I am no beauty queen but that is all right, what is important is, that we are friends."
Brent smiled seeing she was not angry, knowing most girls are offended and obsess about their appearance, "Yes, we are, and friends can speak openly with each other without any restrain?"
Nodding her head, "That is true so let me help you, tell me the root problem, who knows I could have the solution for the problem?"
Despair fills his heart and Brent wants to reveal his heartfelt desire, he knows she is the only one who could resolve the matter, "Only one thing could help."
Jessy strokes him gently hoping it will soothe his heart and whatever was bothering him, she could help lift the heavy burden. "If I could help you in any way, tell me, I promise to help?"
Knowing this was the moment and the most appropriate time, "You won't say no?"
Seeing the doubt written all over his face Jessy wonders if she has misread his expression, he doesn't seem to trust me wholeheartedly, " BJ, didn't I say I wanted to help? I promise, didn't I, so trust me?"
Releasing her from his hold he avoided her dark grape-like eyes which seemed to drown him. He opened his mouth and said, "Jessy, the truth is, Saturday after work, I wanted to come to you knowing it was our second month anniversary. But honey when I went to get my car Rosanna was waiting for me. Sweetheart, you may not recall who she is, but she is the young lady who was at the committee meeting at my home. Having left with no choice I lied telling Rosanna I was going to get something to eat and then I was going to help out in a Church. Sweetheart, she insisted on going with me and she wanted burgers, but I wanted to have burgers with you so I went to another food outlet.
When we finished helping in Church I dropped her at her home, it was late, and I didn't want to come and disturb your rest, you were still weak and recuperating and needed all the rest you could get."
Taking her once more in his arms, "Sweetheart, Rosanna took that to heart, thinking that I love her, and she spoke to my Mom. Sweetheart, I had a slight inking that Mom has secretly chosen her to be my wife. I had no idea what Rosanna was plotting so yesterday she was home early, I thought she was going out with my Mom and Dad for lunch, only to realize she came to attend Church with me."
Wiping the tears, "It's all right to go on?" Urging him to continue, seeing him hesitating when he did speak again. "Sweetheart, yesterday morning the reason I left home was that Mom and Dad were going to discuss my wedding, I don't love her I was scared half to death, but she is my mother's choice for me, I love my mom and don't want to disrespect her so I was left with no choice but to run away."
"But BJ, she is perfect for you and very beautiful, and from what I see she is smart, the perfect image for your world."
Grabbing her shoulder, she said, "How can you say that, I want you not her, please Jessy marry me?"
Confusion and pain mingled in her heart, Jessy knew he was scared but he was also being straightforward with her, she had heard better than him speak those words.
"Brent, I can't, I won't fit into your world, if your mother has chosen her then it is obvious she will reject me. Rosanna has the perfect image for you and your family your mother is right. I will be like a square peg in a round hole?"
Pushing her away from him Jessy could see the hurt and anger, the tears were unbearable for her to contain in her heart but she knew his mom was going to disagree.
Hearing his outburst as he spoke outrageously, "Promises, promises, it was all just talk, you don't care?"
