Chapter 32 - IF I DON'T WHO WILL

Jessie's POV

I immediately knew something was wrong when I heard James ask for me, though I was a bit surprised that Carramel did so without hesitation. As soon as a I opened my eyes and felt the aggression in the air I quickly forced Carramel to sleep, knowing James doesn't want our soft bean to witness whatever danger is occurring.

I follow James down the hallway, our strides quick and steady as I ask him the situation. "Whats in there?"

James growls out his answer through gritted teeth as he begins to lead me down the stairs. "Carramel's room is trashed. Her mattress is flipped and cut, clothes everywhere and desk looted." He tells me and I feel my lips lift in a snarl.

James was right, someone is coming after my bean, and from what I saw last week, I had a pretty good idea of who it might be. "Do you think it's your dad?" I ask as we reach the bottom of the stairs and turn right down a hallway with a bunch of closed office doors.

James stops outside one at the end of the hall way and turns to stare at me with forrest green eyes and a grim expression. "Let's hope it's not. Otherwise, I won't have one for long." He says ending the conversion as he walks into the office without knocking.

The human and gentleman in me is hesitant to follow, but the other half that's soon to be Luna and fiercely protecting of Carramel has me following my Mate through the door and closing it tightly behind us, leaning on it to prevent any words in this room from escape.

Inside there's a gorgeous brown skin woman with flawless skin and a high ponytail that's getting groped on top of her desk by a butch asian woman. The two don't break apart from reach other as we enter, the smaller woman just turns her head in our direction as her Mate moves her lips down to caress her neck.

"James a little busy." She says breathlessly shaking under the weight of her pleasure but I avoid the scene with my eyes, not wanting to make the women uncomfortable.

"I don't give a fuck, Zee. Someone is coming after Carramel so cuddling with Rain with have to wait." He says, teeth clenched in irritation. Zee pushes off her lovers head instantly, sitting straight up in fear.

"What do you mean, someone is coming after our future Luna?" She asks with a worried crease in her brow, her girlfriend huffing a sigh and plopping down into the seat behind the desk as if used to it.

"Carramel and I just got back from our trip and when we went to drop off his stuff in his room, everything was trashed. The bed flips and sliced, his desk was looked through, even his fucking clothes are scattered and torn." He snarls and the woman turns to look at me eyebrows raised as if surprised at my composure.

I sigh, pushing myself off the door to stick my hand out in greeting. "Jessie. Carramel's wolf." I say letting her see my black eyes and she 'oohs' in understanding before she's raising off her desk to fix her clothes and give an apology kiss to Rain who just sighs.

"Have you called Alex yet?" Zee asks, passing us to get to the door and leads the way out of her office, her heels clacking as we walk down the hallway and to the stairs.

"Yes, he said he would meet us there." James says and the three of us head up the stairs determinedly, ignoring all the curious stares and whispers as we pass the den. It takes no time at all to reach the third floor and we see Alex coming down the hallway from the opposite wing with purposeful strides.

We all reach Carramel's door at the same time and Alex is the first to speak up, a stern expression on his face. "What's wrong, James?" He asks and James just pushes the door open to Carramel's room in response and the rest of us follow in, mouth agape at the extent of the damage in the room.

"Holy shit." I breath as I take in the floor that's covered in all of Carramel's most precious belongings. Alex whirs around towards me with a confused and surprised expression.

"The wolf?" He asks eyebrow raised.

"Jessie." I introduce, nodding my head in greeting and he smiles as much as he can in the situation.

"Welcome back." Is all he says before he's turning back to the collateral damage inside the room.

"This can't just be someone looking for something, Carramel has. They wanted to scare her or warn her." Zee says picking up Carramel's favorite pillow and looking at the slashes that are torn in there, I feel Carramel begin to stir in the back of my mind and I quickly lull her back to sleep. James and I both agree this is something Carramel should be aware of, but this is not how she should find out.

"Who would have it out for Carramel?" Alex asks as if the mere thought of someone targeting our bean was ridiculous.

"My dad." Is James' answer and there's no emotion in his tone, making the hair raise in the back of my neck. I let my mental connection to him open and slip his mind a bit to check on Sloan, but my beautiful Mate is knock out cold just like Carramel and I sigh a breath of relief. Once I find him and give him a small mental kiss, James locks eyes with me with a nod to assure me my sassy baby is taken care of.

"Has anyone checked the bathroom?" I ask after turning my attention back to the task at hand and everyone freezes before we collectively turn to the only door in the room that's not broken or seemingly disturbed. When no one else moves, I stiffen my shoulders, wary of what I might find behind the closed door, letting my hand fall to the knob reluctantly before I twist it and push the door open.

At first the bathroom looks completely normal and I breathe a sigh of relief, turning to tell them that this part is clear before I look up at the mirror and my heart drops, and the only thing I can think is how I'm glad that I didn't let Carramel see this.

Because right in the middle of the mirror, written in big bold ugly read letters are the words, 'You're next, Bitch.'

My throat is dry as I examine the red words trying to figure out the substance and my body runs cold when I confirm that it is indeed, blood. My inability to speak worries the rest of the group and the file in after me, their steps stuttering at the finally see what caught my attention and fear.

This isn't a joke or a sick prank. Someone is after Carramel. I turn my head towards James and he looks angry. Angry and lost. I turn my head to Zee as she speaks, her hand brought up to her chest as she stares at the mirror.

"Who..... who would do this? Your dad would never go this far would he?" She asks James but he's shoving his way out the room and a couple seconds later we hear the door to Carramel's room slam. She turns to Alex for answers but he's still staring at the messages wide eye and pale until finally her fearful eyes land on me.

"He's tried to kill the two of us before and I don't doubt he would do it again, but this seems a little too thought out and well-timed for him to do unless he had an inside source. There are a few people who knew about the trip I'm assuming since James had to make plans before we left, any one of those people could be in on it." I say thoughtfully and she nods, he phone whipping out as she types out a message.

"Should I call a pack meeting?" She asks and Alex finally snaps out of it and joins the conversation.

"No, keep this between the four of us. If anyone finds out that we're on to them, they might escalate their scare tactics." He says and it makes me have a sudden, chilling revelation.

"They only put the message in me and Carramel's room and not James'. I don't think it's about being fucked at all." I say and the more I think the more my heart rate picks up in fear and adrenaline, ready to defend Carramel once more if what I'm about to say is anywhere close to true. "What if it's someone jealous of Carramel being James' Luna.... and they want to take his place."

Alex stares at me and Zee gasps at the conclusion. "If that's the case." Alex starts with a shake of his head. "Then finding out who's responsible just became a lot more difficult." He says and I agree.

"How do I help?" Zee asks the two of us, her eyes trying to avoid the angry hate sign behind us.

"Look at the cameras in the front of the pack house and at the stairs and try to see if you can find anyone that doesn't belong here or isn't normally around. They had a five day window so it could have been any number of people." Alex says and we counties to talk about ways to find the person responsible and it's just Alex and I standing in the bathroom, Zee going downstairs to start her search.

"You have an idea of who it might be don't you?" He asks me, though his gaze is on the widow that sits over the toilet.

"Yup." I answer, keeping it simple as I burn the image of the mirror into my mind.

"Are you going to share it?" He asks and there's no animosity or irritation in his voice only smooth curiosity.

"Not quite yet." I answer before I push my leaning body off the door. "I'm going to find James." I tell him and he hums as he follows me out the bathroom, grabbing the bags by the door before he closes the door behind me.

"I'll take these to his room. You sure you want to go after him while he's like this?" He asks me but I'm already walking down the hallway and towards the stairs.

"If I don't, who will?" I ask and there's no response and I follow the trail of James' scent to make sure he's okay.
