Chapter 3 - Sara

Woodland is a beautiful town with all basic amenities where people residing in the town where they can fulfill their basic needs comfortably.

It consists of a small community hall, department stores, school, hospital where people are helpful to each other.

The noise was coming from one of the bungalow.

Two kids, a four years old girl and six years old boy were fighting for one toy and their grandma, who was a fifty five years old lady was trying to stop them from beating up one another but only failing at it.

The lady was helplessly looking at her husband, asking for his help but he ignored her as he was reading the newspaper and was immersed in his own world.

She kept calling him but he didn't respond to her as if it was a normal and regular routine which happens everyday. So, he totally ignored her and the little kids.

She then looked at the clock and then at the main door and thought 'By this time Sara is supposed to come home, why didn't she come yet? The old lady then started having weird thoughts which made her anxious and restless.

"Why is she not yet home?" The woman was worried.

"Calm down, she is not that late" Her husband James scolded her as he knows what his wife must be thinking.

James Cooper, an ex-army retired officer, was staying with his wife Mary and younger daughter Sara with his two grandchildren Rio, a six years old boy and Ava, four years girl in this small town.

Just then the door opened and Sara entered the house, when she heard the noise of both kids fighting.

"What happened to my prince and princess? Why are you two fighting?" Sara asked them.

"He had taken my Barbie doll and painted it with colored water, my Barbie doll's face had been spoiled." The little girl was crying while she showed the doll to Sara and spoke between her sobs in broken sentences.

When Sara looked at the doll she couldn't control her laugh but she composed herself as soon as she understood the pain of the little girl so she took the little girl into her lap and said "Dear, don't cry I will get you a new one tomorrow while returning from my office." Sara assured the little girl and finally she stopped crying.

Then Sara kissed her on her cheeks "I will bring you new doll, this time I will buy the Barbie set not just a doll"

The little girl clapped her hands and giggled in excitement.

"That's like my princess, always laugh like this, you are a strong girl so no more tears in your eyes"

Just then the little boy interrupted them, "See, her doll is looking like a joker, I will spoil her new doll too"

As the little girl heard her brother's words she started crying again. Somehow Sara again consoled her.

Then the boy pulled Sara's hand and asked "Then what about me, I am not your favourite. Is she your little princess, I am not your prince?"

"Dear, you are my little prince and both of you are my favorites. What do you want? I will get a toy for you also. You both are equal to me whenever I buy anything, I will bring for you too. Do you understand?" Sara explained to the little boy.

Boy kissed her on the cheeks "You are the best, I want a big police car where they have lights on its top"

Sara said "I will bring tomorrow but you have to promise me that you have to take care of your little sister and not trouble her. Look at your grandma, she was tired and worried. Is it good for her health to take stress at this age?"

Boy looked at her grandma and bent his head in guilt. Then Sara held his chin and said "Look at me, don't feel guilt. Say sorry to grandma and play with your sister like a good boy"

"Sorry grandma, I won't trouble you again" He went to her and kissed his grandma on her cheeks.

Grandma hugged him "If you really feel sorry then don't tease your little sister, everyday you say sorry and again next day repeat the same" She softly scolded him.

The little boy held his ears. "Sorry grandma, promise this time I won't repeat the same, I will take care of Ava, promise" he looked very cute.

"Sara, go and get freshen up, let us have dinner together" Sara's mom Mary told her.

"Mom, I will come and help you till then take some rest" she switched on TV where cartoons were played Sara told the kids to watch TV and not to trouble grandma before going to her room.

After Sara left, Mary looked at James and said "These two naughty kids don't listen to me but they listen to Sara"

James replied "Mary do you remember Sara always had the skill to convince anyone irrespective of their age and she deeply cares and love these kids so they listen to her as she talks to them in their language"

Mary replied "You are right"

After dinner Mary and James were in their bedroom.

Mary couldn't sleep as she was feeling discomfort in her chest.

James understood that Mary was feeling discomfort so he immediately gave her medicine.

After taking medicine Mary felt a little bit comfortable.

James scolded her "You have forgotten to take medicines again?"

"I was thinking about something and forgot to take medicine," Mary replied.

"I know you are worried about Sara," James said.

"Exactly I want to ask what Sara's future is? Should she have to take care of us all her life? Doesn't she deserve to lead a comfortable and happy life?" She is twenty seven now and she had to get married by now but she sacrificed her entire life for the sake of us and her elder sister Sophia's kids. When ever I think about Sara's future my blood boils because of Sophia she is suffering, if Sophia come in front of me I will don't know what I would do?"

"Do you ever think she will come back, no she is so selfish and ruthless who had left her husband and kids who were in their tender age and need the mother most" James talked about their elder daughter Sophia.

"You are right, if she would be of Sara's nature why would she take such a drastic step and leave her kids in our house and search her own way" Mary had tears in her eyes and continued

"I am bothered about two little kids and Sara. Sara had rejected many bride grooms because of her one condition which is not accepted by the bride groom or sometimes by their families if the groom accepts her" "Don't think much, one day Sara will find a perfect man" James pacified Mary with his words.

"You are right but as you know, who will accept and welcome kids with her when she gets married? She wanted these two little kids to stay with her after marriage. James you can tell her that she should not keep this condition in front of a boy as you know next week one of my friends is sending a boy to meet Sara. I wanted to talk to her but as you know she won't listen to me so will you try once" Mary requested James.

"Now I understand why you are worried and restless? As you said I will try to talk to her about not keeping a condition but as far as I know she won't agree" James said.

"But how can you be so sure?" Mary asked him.

"Do you remember when last month one boy came to meet her?"

"I do, he was so excited to marry Sara as she is beautiful and highly qualified where he can use her intelligence in his business as our daughter had finished her MBA from reputed institution later we came to know that he was her senior and liked her in the college" Mary recollected everything and said to the James.

"He too rejected her because of this one condition" James told her.

Mary replied "When will the situation be normal and Sara will have a comfortable life? Our elder daughter Sophia only brought shame to our family and abandoned her kids. Sara took responsibility for Sophia's kids and is raising them like her own."

"We are lucky that we were blessed with a daughter like Sara. She looks after us and kids, sometimes I blame myself for having gone wrong in the upbringing of Sophia" James blamed himself.

"James, Sara and Sophia are both my daughters, but one is enjoying the life and the other is taking all the responsibility of which she needs not to do so and see how their fate is played with them" Mary started the conversation.

"You are right, both are our daughters Sophia and Sara. We were blessed to have our younger daughter Sara and on the other side Sophia ran away from her responsibilities as mother to Rio and Ava leaving behind her husband and two kids. We were blessed to have a daughter like Sara, " James continued.

"Sara is our pride," James added.

"I just hope Sara too has a blissful life where she can rule like a queen" Mary wished and James too hoped for the same and later helped his wife sleep.
