Chapter 14 - Conflict

"Sir, is the giant cathedral the…"

Before Zen could continue with his question, Arthur interjected with a calm voice.

"Yes, that is the main Temple of Light"

"Then we are…"

"Yes, we are currently at the Temple of Light's territory."

"But sir, if you encountered the forces of the Temple of Light, then why did you settle here?"

Remembering the giant cathedral and the symbol of cross on it, along with the information from Arthur's story, Zen could not help but become a little confused.

Hearing his question, Arthur grinned and answered Zen's question with a question of his own.

"Who would've expected it?"

"What…"

"Who would've expected that I would settle down in their territory after they had just attacked me?"

Zen was flabbergasted at Arthur's reasoning.

"None…"

"Exactly! None would have expected that I would settle down in their territory as soon as I fled from their attack."

Arthur's grin widened even more, showing his pearly white teeth.

"Then even if they had a suspicion of you being in their territory, they would focus on guarding the entrances and exits unaware that you have already settled…"

Pondered Zen as he held his chin.

"Aren't I a genius?"

Arthur said as he chuckled loudly.

"But sir, the story you have told me didn't answer the question I had earlier."

Zen said seriously, knowing that he first has to settle the important matters before anything else.

'Besides, I only wanna know why you're being kind. Why did you tell your temple's whole history to me?'

Of course, Zen did not have the guts to voice out his thoughts.

Seeing his serious expression, Arthur decided to become serious too, not knowing the thoughts inside Zen's mind otherwise he would have given him a knock on the head.

"Well, as you can see, I am the only remaining priest of the Temple of Fire. Thus, I want your help."

Facing Arthur's serious gaze, Zen felt goosebumps.

"But sir, I am an otherworlder and couldn't help with spreading the—"

Arthur interrupted him with a wave of his hand.

"I won't ask you to do something foolish such as spreading the teachings of my temple. You will only be hunted by different temples if you do so."

"Besides, that's my problem. What I want you to do is to eradicate the forces of the Abyssal World which are likely to be aligned with your goals and…"

He said in a calm voice before looking at Zen in the eye.

"... to slay the gods."

Arthur said with a grin on his face.

As Zen was having his conversation with Arthur, Ren and Rina were dealing with some serious matters on their side.

"What?! What's wrong with your head?! Do you have a pea-sized brain?!"

Rina shouted at a middle-aged man.

They were in a large, dim meeting room with a long table in the center. Sitting at the end of the table was a middle-aged man who looked to be the person in this room with the highest authority.

There were also people wearing office attire participating in the meeting, discussing things with each other from time to time.

"Watch your words Mrs. Alcantra, all the decisions that the United Nations are making are all for the good of the citizens."

Said the middle-aged man as he frowned, clearly displeased with Rina's shout.

Hearing the middle-aged man, Rina was so angry and was about to shout again when Ren intervened from the side.

"But Mr. President, isn't it too arrogant for us to assume that we would be able to protect the citizens from something unknown?"

"If you were really as caring to the common people as you have stated, then you would decide to spread the information about the game in order to make the masses aware of what can possibly happen."

"Why do you and the United Nations insist on keeping the information away from the masses?"

Ren said in a calm voice as he gestured for Rina to sit down.

"Of course it is to prevent global panic. Besides, as long as we relied on the game, the United Nations and I are sure of keeping things under control."

The middle-aged man, also known as the president, said confidently.

"Then coming from this point of view, it is just like what you said. If you are planning to rely on the game, then wouldn't it be better to inform the masses to make sure that they would also take the game seriously?"

"Besides, you and the United Nations don't even know anything about the calamity that might descend upon us. So why are you so sure of your decisions, what made you so confident?"

"Or… is it because you hid some information from us? Are you afraid of being overthrown as the president when the world's laws and rules become ineffective?"

The calm Ren said arguments after arguments in a slow and relaxed manner, making the middle-aged man furious.

"Shut your mouth! The two of you better know your place!"

"How could you speak like that to the president!?"

A few people participating in the meeting became angry and supported the president. However, there were also those who were pondering quietly, although they were the minority.

Hearing the voices that were supporting him, the middle-aged man held up his hands in a subtle, gloating manner and said confidently,

"Mr. and Mrs. Alcantra, please don't accuse me of anything when you don't have evidence to support your claims."

Ren stared at the middle-aged president in the eye, and slowly looked around the meeting room, remembering the faces of all the people participating in the meeting.

Especially those who supported the president.

After doing this, Ren said in a calm manner.

"Then I am afraid that we would have to resign Mr. President."

The middle-aged man grinned and said, "I'm afraid that wouldn't be possible Mr. Alcantra."

"Oh really? Why do you say so?"

Ren was amused and also grinned as he replied indifferently.
