Chapter 29 - The University of Magic (Revision)

The university of Magic was huge. Offering all classes from basic Elemental spells to King ranked classes that specifically catered to one spell or even just researching spells to create. Most students ranged from about my age to someone in their mid fifties. Students here were either talented in either one specific element or wanted to specialize in one, it really was just up to the student to figure out what they wanted. An entrance exam was needed to get inside, one that essentially benchmarked your Magic skills and Mana to see if you qualified for the school. It was a simple test of using magic against another opponent within a barrier spell the University uses. A large circle that should be able to withstand most spells. Or at least that's what Tera told me.

A week passed since then and I arrived at the University along with Tera who acted as my Guardian. She arrived this morning as I was doing some training with magic, using Kale as a target to aim my magic at. Kale found it as a way to train against Mages, which Tera found amusing. After sending me off with Tera, Kale grabbed Lilith to continue their Fire king style training.

"Have fun with the Magical Thingy!" Was the last thing I heard from Lilith before the clashing of wooden swords cut it off.

Walking our way to the Univeristy, It really did stand out with its hugging walls that reached perhaps the height of a one story house.

The university shared the same color palette as the rest of the city as the buildings had a white color to them. The main building's rooftop had a dome that was painted blue. It was a fairly large building too, Three stories with connected buildings on the left and right, shaping a U.

Or a backwards U, depending how you see it. The building on the left was the building I saw when I first came into Prusha; it had a bell tower that held a Magic crystal. I thought it was a Church tower, but it was really just for the University.

As we walked to the front gate, Tera gave me some info on how she applied to this school as a teacher. After her departure from Kale's group, she set out to study magic. Staying in Ithryll to research there after Kale's group left until she caught the eyes of another teacher that was traveling to their hometown, which was coincidentally Ithryll. Having a conversation with the teacher, Tera found out about Kale and asked the teacher for a referral to join the teachers of the University.

Couple months later, Tera found herself a teacher for this School.

It seemed like Kale had been there for awhile since people already knew of him once she got there, Tera then stayed at an inn for some time, stalking Kale from afar and toying with him during his duties until before she met me and Lilith.

Anyways, once she finished her story, we reached the entrance of the main building, two large wooden doors stood in our way as Tera waved at her staff. These doors were humongous in size, reaching the near top of the building itself. The doors glistened in magic as suddenly, a smaller door was made that was near our height.

"The doors are only this size to accommodate any decor or statues that we either place in the building or move to be outside. It's weird, I know." Tera said as she entered inside.

Damn, This Reminds me of a game I played as a kid.

The inside of the building was massive, two stairs were on both sides of the buildings as the stairs to the third floor spiraled up. The interior had brown walls that seemed to be covered in magic as they shimmered, the floor we were on also shimmered. This whole damn place was shimmering! In the middle of all of this was a desk with a man sitting there, looking at us.

"Hello!" He waved.

"Hello, Gorwin." Tera waved back.

Gorwin was an Elf, Or at least what I think was a elf in this world from his ears. He had brown hair and Green eyes. Shifting his glasses, he rose from his seat and held his hand out.

"You must be Kota." He smiled. "Yknow, I could sense your mana even before you entered the building. It's fascinating, I don't think I've seen someone with this much mana in a long time. It'll be a pleasure to see how you use it."

"Oh uh…thanks?" I held my hand out to shake his. I still looked at him in an intrigued way, trying to figure out if he was an elf or not. I didn't want to outright ask him since I felt it would be rude…but not asking and assuming seemed rude too.

"Stop staring, Kota. Oh…are you..?" I stopped tera from finishing that sentence with a frantic wave. If she's thinking what I thought she was thinking. Ain't no way in hell was I swinging for men.

"No! I was just curious about what He was." I frantically said.

Gorwin laughed as he let go of my hand. Tera gave an amusing look as he showed off his ears.

"You may have never seen someone like this yet, have you? Well that's alright, I don't believe most people have seen any of the other races that inhabit this world. I am an elf from the eastern continent. "

I sighed with relief after hearing that. I thought for a moment that there wouldn't be elves in this world, but it seems they do exist. Though if I remembered correctly, Mary from GrassHorn was a dwarf. Maybe I was just overthinking this.

"Anyways, I've been told that you will be attending the school?" Gorwin asked me.

"Yeah, I came here for the entrance exam."

"You came a little early, the entrance exam is in half an hour. But you can explore the university if you like, Tera can guide you around." Gorwin bowed as he said that. "Be very well to him, Miss Sereal."

"Note taken." Tera then beckoned me to follow her.

Gorwin seemed like a nice person, I mean he was the receptionist for the university. Once he got back to his seat at the desk, tera grabbed me and took me on a tour before the exam.

During the tour, Tera showed me all of the floors and what they had on each of them. The second and third floor was used for all the classes, the second floor was used mainly for the Basic elemental magic classes up until Intermediate classes. Once someone reaches intermediate, they are given the choice of doing classes that specify in combo magic, assuming the user could do that. Otherwise they will continue studying intermediate versions of the classes they chose in basic.

The Third floor was used for classes that involved Potion making classes and even classes about infusing weapons or items with magic. Tera told me that those classes sometimes take a trip to the production area of the city where they take notes there. There was also a library on the right side of the building. In fact, the whole right side was a library. When we entered the library, the librarian showed us most of what was there. There were aisles that were dedicated to Prusha's history and the generations of nobles that lived here. Another aisle was filled with tales of dungeons and labyrinths that were found.

"This Aisle has many books that details the history of Prusha, alongside its war with the demon known as Verith." The librarian said, pointing down an aisle. "Along this side of the book shelves, you can read about the past king's lives."

"Ok, enough about the history of this place! Let's just head into this aisle!" Tera pushed the Liberian forward, annoyance filled her voice as they quickly moved on.

I found myself getting lost after tera and the librarian walked to another aisle, I kept looking at the books here and noticed that this was a fairly Small library, considering my thoughts on books before made me reiterate that perhaps people do read in this world, it's just not common among common people who don't train in magic or anything like it. Most of these books were either copies or newer editions just shoved into their specified aisle. The rest of the library consisted of long tables for those who wanted to read or study in the library. Hm…And it kinda seems like not many people are in this library, I wonder how many people are actually in this University?

Pondering that, I ended up bumping into something.

No, it was Someone. They were holding a couple of books in a stack when I ran into them as I turned a corner.

"Ow, hey!" I heard a voice say annoyingly. sounded like a teenager. The two of us stumbled back, with the books falling around us. I fell right into my butt as I rubbed my head.

I should really Pay more attention to where I'm…going…

Looking up I saw a girl, about fifteen, looking down at me. Her eyes were a bright green color as she leaned down, adjusting the glasses she had. She wore a Blue and white uniform, most likely the school uniform. Her Pink hair dangled down towards me as she leaned.

"What's the big idea? Watch where you're going!" She frowned when she said that.

"Uh, apologies. I wasn't-." She stopped me there with a finger wave.

"Tsk, I don't need to hear excuses from a kid, I mean what are you even doing here? Got lost?"

Eh, what's with the hostility? I mean, I did end up here by myself. Why am I wandering around, I should've been finding Tera.

"I was with my teacher, and I got lost."

"And who's that?"

The clack of high heels can be heard from behind the girl as Tera loomed over her.

"That would be me. Miss Sura." Tera had a serious face when she said that, it was the First time I've seen that. "Stop scaring my little lamb."

So the girl's name was Sura, huh? Judging from the nonchalant look she had, she must have run into Tera a lot.

"Oh…Miss Sereal. Out handling the Entrance exams or babysitting?" Sura's tone made it seem like she was disinterested in the matter.

"Let's say both." Tera said, still having a serious look on her face. "And what are you doing in the library? Another study session?"

"As usual." Sura turned to me for a moment. "Is…he taking the exam?"

"Of course, why would he be here?" Tera pondered her thoughts as she finally took notice of the situation. "Did you run into him? Sura, you shouldn't be handing little boys his age."

"Mhm…" The pink haired girl then scoffed and picked up her books that had fallen. "I'm going back to our Class…"

"As you should." Tera smiled as Sura walked away from us, brushing past me.

Oh well, not my problem. My only problem right now is the Entrance exam, when did it start?

Tera stood for a moment before grabbing my hand, yanking me to my feet.

"Shit! I forgot about the exam! Sorry, kota!" Tera tan as fast as she could in her heels as I followed along behind her.

"What's it been? A couple months as a teacher? I've done this exam thing like six times and I kept forgetting about it every time!" Tera was speaking to herself.

We sped through the library, heading out the exit as the Librarian saw us coming. She held out a hand that caused the both of us to stop.

"No running, Tera." The librarian said sternly.

"No running, pfft. Fine.." Tera mumbled as she then started to speed walk.

I didn't really say anything during all this as I was…looking forward to Tera's rear. Every step and every movement was basically seeing waves. It was a mesmerizing thing to look at.

We can be late, I don't mind.

Once we headed downstairs, Gorwin was sitting at his desk. Humming to himself. Tera slammed the desk which spooked him.

"Exam! Where?! Wait..." Tera looked away from Gorwin and straight at the doors. "Why am I asking you? I already know." Before he could reply, she grabbed my hand and headed towards the doors.

Gorwin looked at us as we left, utter amusement written on his face. Tera must be a force to be reckoned with in this school for the last couple of months she's been here. I wonder what the other teachers thought Of her?

When we entered the room, I noticed that it had a different feeling to it. It was subtle, but it felt like we were now being watched closely. In the room, there was a giant circle, a magic circle that had people inside of it. These must be the others who are doing the Entrance exam.

Tera and I stepped into the circle, I immediately felt a weird feeling as I felt like I was being restricted by something, but I wasn't sure of it.

"Hm? Another recruit for the school?." A middle aged man said that it seemed like he was a teacher as well since Tera waved at him. He squinted his eyes as he fully realized who was waving at him. "…Miss Sereal, I see you brought your referral student with you."

"Sorry, we got caught up with our little tour. Kota is ready for the exam." Tera guided us beside the other applicants, all who looked at me in confusion.

"What the?" One of the participants said.

"Who's this kid?"

"Absurd amount of mana in him."

"Had to wait for a kid?"

They all mumbled something about me.

I felt like I was back in school in my old world, everyone was staring at me. Staring at the new kid. I could feel all of their eyes on me as I quietly moved between them.

Calm yourself, Travis. This isn't your old life. There's no reason for them to hate you. No reason to pick on you. You're just new.

"Since everyone else has had a go with their test, I suppose you can be our last show. Do give us entertainment, boy." The middle aged man said.

Huh? Is he pointing at me? Of course not, I'm not the…last one here…

I scanned the room and noticed the door behind us had closed, which meant that no one else was coming in.

"Shit." I muttered out.

"What was that?"

"N-nothing, I'll go ahead!" I walked past him and looked around. What was I supposed to do?

"You there." He pointed at a teen boy. "Go up ahead and face that child." The teenager nodded and went past him, now facing me with confusion as well.

Is…this is a test where we use spells together? A team effort? Maybe we'll be taking on something together.

"Your last test proved to be an appalling mockery of magic. Do you think this is a place to show weakness?" The middle aged man asked the teen.

"You put me up against an opponent who could easily counter my water spells! How the hell am I supposed to deal with that?!" The teen asked.

"Hmph, if you want to join this Univeristy…Then you should have prepared for something like that. Here you stand, looking like a buffoon. You couldn't even hit the other participant with your spell."

That is the stupidest shit I've heard, yet.

"That's absurd." The teen said, took those words right out of my mouth.

"You're questioning me, boy? I don't make the rules here. It's a tradition in this school. If you can't live without hitting another person with your magic, I don't know why you are here." The middle aged man snapped at him.

So this Entrance exam is just a duel? God damn it, Tera! She said this would be a simple test!

"Alright, let's begin our last Exam! Please go forward into the circle!"
