Chapter 17 - The Red Button

As Draco walked up to where the shooters stand, he saw one man tap on a button near where he was shooting, and the arrows in his target were brought up to him. Draco, feeling like an idiot for not trying the big red button in the beginning, decided to push it this time.

His part of the wall with the arrows on it started floating towards him into arm's reach. Draco pulled the arrows out of the target wall and clicked it again to send the wall back. He took a second to watch the other archer while he shot, trying to learn anything from him to help himself and his shot improve.

The man noticed Draco staring but decided to finish off his quiver before asking what his problem was. It took the man less than five minutes to sink everyone of his arrows into the middle range target, the arrows outlining the different target points perfectly in neat circles with one bullseye in the middle. Draco's mouth was partly open when the man looked over next.

The man couldn't help but let out a belly laugh at the young man's reaction to his shooting. After taking a closer look at the boy and watching him, the man noticed he also had a bow and arrow. Due to this, the man figured he was either thinking he was hot stuff and was better than him, or he was watching to see how he shot.

The man would find out once the boy took his first shot. Draco was dumbfounded, he had watched the men's movements while he shot but he couldn't see him reach into the quiver at his hip, not even once. It honestly didn't help him at all to learn how to shoot a bow but it did however set a bar. A bar that Draco was determined to break through. With a renewed vigor, Draco nocked an arrow, aiming for the center of the target. He took into consideration that when he did this last time his arrows went up and to the left so he aimed below the target and to the left. He loosed his arrow.

The arrow went flying towards the target, but half way there it started to fall until it hit the ground five feet away from it. "Haha I see you were trying to figure out how to shoot your bow." the older man started laughing from his belly again. After he was done laughing, the man walked over to Draco and slapped him on the back. "My names Luke, Buster's top Speed Archer and I'm going to teach you how to shoot."

Draco was dumbfounded, he knew of the two top tank and mage titles in the guild, but he had never heard of there being a top archer. However he wasn't going to complain, from what he saw this man had the skills to back up his words. Draco figured if he was indeed the top Archer, then his rank would be at least D.

For the next week the man taught Draco how to aim the bow, how to take into consideration the distance and the wind and every other factor that would impair the shot he wanted to take. Although he was teaching him how to shoot, he wasn't a long distance archer so Draco had to figure out the logistics of long archery himself.

After the man finished teaching him the basics he left and started to not show up around the training floor, Draco was a little confused so he started asking around and he found out he had gone to clear a C rank Door with another guilds team. Deciding that it was time to go towards the Field after he was able to shoot a bullseye every time he shot from 50 yards.

Draco didn't have any money so he was just going there with the intent of grabbing the Spineweb crystals and leaving the body's for the other monsters to eat or for other strikers to take and sell. It was a huge waste but Draco knew that until he got a vehicle there was no way around it.

After heading home and going to bed he awoke early the next door and deciding to go retrieve the gift from Aurora, he headed to the Ouroboros guild building. When he walked in and asked around about Aurora he found out that she was clearing a Door. After telling the main desk what he was there for, the man looked at his computer. "An item for Draco? Ah, I got a picture of you right here."

The man after seeing the supposed picture handed Draco a box the size of his forearm. After thanking the man and asking if he could tell Aurora thank you as well, he walked out the building. Fully prepared to go hunting. He walked out into the street and called a taxi. A yellow beat up taxi slowed down and parked Infront of him. A man with a round face leaned down to look at Draco from head to toe. "Where are you heading?'' Draco looked at the man and leaned on his door. "I'm heading towards the Web Woods.''

The man did a double take of Draco and his Title, multiple emotions flashed across the driver's face before settling on resignation. Draco knew that many F rank strikers go to the web woods as their first hunting ground. They go thinking that seeing as its all low rank Doors there power will be enough to allow them easy hunting. But they always overestimate the sheer number of monsters that linger there.

Draco couldn't help but think this man probably had someone close to him go there to hunt and they never came back. After getting into the car they rode in silence for the hour and a half it took to make it to the field. He dropped Draco off near the front of the large wall that was erected all around this area. Draco asked how much he owed him and he told Draco it was on the house. The taxi driver took off without saying another word, and Draco decided to forget about it.

Draco started the 60 yard walk to the main gate so he could enter the field and go hunting. The man in a military uniform held his hand up in front of my chest. "Halt. State your business." Draco couldn't help but laugh, there was only one reason someone would come to a field and it wasn't to go on a picnic. He must be new to the army. "I've come to hunt." Draco spoke with a flat voice. Draco had heard story's that said if you showed excitement in your voice the people working at the gate would give you a crash course in intimidation.

The man looks at Draco for a moment, just staring into hi eyes. Draco looked out of the corner of his eye at the man's title. 'Falsity meter' Draco took a chance and grabbed the eye floating alongside the man's title. The green window opened Infront of his eyes but Draco quickly willed it to go transparent.

Draco didn't take his eyes off the man, The man that was no doubt trying to intimidate him for whatever reason. "You're going to die in there." Draco didn't back down and after 3 minutes passed, they both heard a man shouting from inside the little hut behind the man. "Let him through Jamision, you cant save everyone.''

The army man took a couple more seconds before he told Draco to follow him to the huge three story door. The door had a bunch of intricate looking locks engraved into it. "Sign this form before heading in. signing it confirms that you acknowledge that you are responsible for your actions and that the army are not responsible for any ill that befalls you.'' The man was speaking like he has said this millions of times and it wouldn't shock Draco if he indeed had said it that many times.

Draco signed the paper, marking the box saying he does not want a military escort to follow him around. If he marked that he would have to do a down payment for the military personnel and he had no money for a service like that. After everything was signed Draco walked up to the door and waited. After 2 minutes he heard a guard yell that it was clear for him to go out and the doors opened to expose a huge forest area. Having already equipped his gear before leaving his house he was as ready as he was ever going to be, so he sprinted into the field deciding that he would find more monsters to hunt farther into the woods.

"The stupid kid, I don't think he knows that most of the monsters are nocturnal" A large man with a scar running down his left cheek walked out of the small hut standing off to the side of the entrance. He looked at the receding figure as he sprinted into the forest.
