Chapter 11 - Liang Yan's Heart Condition

Liang Yan was at a loss when she couldn't locate Huo Qingning. She might have been a little too aggressive, but she'd already promised Grandpa Huo. No way she was going back on her words. The one thing she didn't expect was Huo Qingning being overly sensitive about their divorce. Was their pretend marriage that important to him? She might have stepped on his toe by mentioning a divorce, yet, there was no more time to spare. Just as she'd decided to continue looking for him and talk things out, an uninvited guest arrived at the hospital.

Though the rubberneckers were long gone, Liang Youli, high-profile as usual, stood out amongst the crowd. She was only visiting, but she brought along her minions too. She strode across the hallway towards Grandpa Huo's ward and realized Liang Yan was standing at the door. Then she looked her up and down. "You look like a stray dog. What? Did Huo Qingning come around with the divorce?"

Liang Yan had wanted nothing to do with her. She walked past her, heading in the direction where Huo Qingning left.

Liang Youli scoffed through gritted teeth, recollected herself, and pushed the door open. "How are you holding up, Grandpa Huo?"

Old Master Huo was resting with his eyes shut when he heard her voice. Fierce joy flashed across his face, and he ordered his assistant to grab a stool. "Youli. You're here. Come, have a seat."

She did as she was told and sat down. "Look at you. You gave us a good scare, didn't you?"

He sighed. "It was all Qingning. If only he were more thoughtful..."

She caught the underlying message in his comment, and she further prompted him about what had happened. They talked a little more about half an hour before excusing herself.

Stepping out of the room, she asked around the nurses to fill in the gaps. Then she smiled, thanked them each, and sent her men to locate Liang Yan. The couple just had a huge fight, and she couldn't miss her chance.

Liang Yan had looked everywhere, but Huo Qingning was still out of sight. Dejected, she shuffled her way back to the hospital along its perimeter with her head lowered. It was out of nowhere that a pair of stilettos broke into view, standing in her way. She looked up to find the complacent Liang Youli.

"Say, why won't you stay away from the hospital? Why do you have to go see grandpa?" Liang Youli shook her head. "What good will it do you for going against me?"

"Out of my way," Liang Yan said breathlessly. She moved to the side, wanting to leave as soon as she could.

But Liang Youli blocked her again. She gave Liang Yan a hard shove with all her might, her intent to kill strong. "F*cking b*tch! Why can't you stay out of our business?"

As a flash of lightning struck through the clouds, a fall of rain pouring down on them followed.

Liang Yan's body trembled. She had to hold onto her chest, leaning against the wall for support. The pain building up in her chest made breathing difficult. Liang Youli was mumbling about, but she could no longer hear her. The shooting pain continued to grow until she couldn't stand straight. She was about to collapse when an arm caught her, and she fell into a warm embrace.
