Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Hide

Within five minutes of her hanging up the phone, Allan rushes in through the front door. He was going three times the speed limit. Allan immediately hug her tightly and kissed her forehead. "Did he hurt you?" he asked her, worried. She shook her head but that didn't matter right now because her bones were shaking so badly she couldn't stand.

"We are not safe here anymore," Allan said immediately, enclosing her in a tight hug. She pulls away from him, perplexed. "We have to leave right now," he says, pulling her to the door.

She pulls back, attempting to stop him. "What about all of our stuff?" she asks, her voice worried.

She had never seen Allan panic like this before; usually, he was super relaxed and arrogant, or aggressive, but she was seeing a side of him she didn't understand right now.

Allan shook his head as he marches down the corridor, "That bastard has something on me," he says, abruptly halting at the midpoint of the corridor. "If you ever get captured by him, just know he won't harm you. He is only out to destroy me, he doesn't hurt girls but his men can. F*ck! we still need to be extra careful," he whispers in her ear before walking again.

If Allan is truly in danger, she was as well. She has no idea how Alpha thinks he can kill Allan while keeping her alive.

They hop into Allan's Range Rover and speed away, giving her a mini heart attack from the stun. "Allan, slow down," she says as she touches his arm. Allan immediately calms down and takes a deep breath, slowing down significantly. "Thank you," she said, turning to look out the window, curious about the new scenery they were passing through. The trees were tall, as were a few signs. They didn't see another car for at least an hour. In the opposite lane, a small car sped past them.

"'So, where are we gon na hide now?" Allan asks, tired of the silence. She leans against the glass door, listening to his response.

"A house," he says, giving her no satisfactory reply.

"That's not very informative," she groans, tapping her fingers wearily against the dashboard as she sat waiting for Allan to respond, but he didn't. She looks at him and notices him tapping his ear. She was perplexed at first until she realized there were bugs in the car.

She nods and sighs, preparing to sleep for the long drive ahead.

Her body lifts on its own. Her eyelids flutter open in surprise as she notices Allan's face only inches away. "You snore," he says as he pulls her out of the car.

She covers her mouth with her hands, humiliated. "Did I really snore? No one has ever tried to tell me that before even Anthony. Maybe Allan is just bullshitting me and being a prick," she rolled her eyes.

"The only reason I was awake was that your snoring was so loud I couldn't sleep," Allan smirked as he took out some keys and unlocked a door. When she looks up, she notices a small, one-story house.

It was beautiful and simple, like Anthony's cabin and everything that happened there that she won't forget, but also never speak of again. She knows that Allan will be pissed off about that.

Allan places her on the mattress before returning to lock up the front door. "Welcome to our new home," Allan says solemnly before heading into the adjoining kitchen.

She gets up and follows him, wanting some immediate answers to her questions. "So," she says, preparing to fire, "how long are we going to be staying here?" she asks.

It took a few seconds for Allan to respond, "I don't know but I need to kill him first," he says cheerfully.

A goosebump runs down her spine, and she nods even though he couldn't see her. "Why does he want to kill you?" she inquires, entering potentially dangerous territory.

Allan pauses, unsure of what to say to her. "No, you don't need to know that," he says solemnly, not turning back to look at her.

"Hmm okay," she says as she walks out of the kitchen. Allan still didn't trust her; she understands why, but she wants to know why. She despises being woefully ignorant because it feels like she has no control over the circumstances.

Althea sat on the couch, pulling a duvet over herself that she had removed. She began to stare cluelessly at the ceiling, unsettled with herself.

She was his mate, and if he just let her, she could help. She let him help her numerous times since she knew she was fragile and had many flaws.

Her mate is incredibly strong, and his only downfall is that she is his lousy little mate.

"I wanna help him but how could I help him? I have no idea; all I can do physically is cure his injuries, and that's about it only if he accepts some mental support," she reflected.

She felt bad for her friend. He was framed, and everyone wanted him dead, but he still can't deny that he killed someone. Althea was perplexed as to why he was doing it when he had only been framed in the first place. The mate bond is transforming her, and she is not sure if she likes it. She was losing her fear of Allan; he wouldn't kill her, but he could kill anyone else with the snap of a finger.

She buried it in the deepest recesses of her mind. She wants them to work out, but she also wants to be useful, not just a prop to make him stronger.

Allan walks out of the kitchen and over to her, sitting in the middle of the mattress near her feet. He pats her leg and turns on the television to watch some modern show. She huffed and stood up to go find the bedroom. She simply desires some alone time to think.

Althea blinked her eyes open. She checked the time by taking her phone from the table next to her bed. She got out of bed because it was getting close to 9 a.m.

She went to the art room after assuming Allan had already left to do something important. She took everything she needed to begin a new painting once she arrived. She wanted to paint a place where she imagined herself living.

30 minutes later.

She decided to leave the room and finish the painting the next day. As she walked down the halls, she smelled something burning and ran to the location, realizing that the smoke was coming from the kitchen. She went inside, terrified, thinking that someone had broken in.

But Althea was in for a surprise when she noticed her mate standing near the stove.

"What's going on in here?" she inquired. Allan heard his friend's voice and turned around, accidentally dropping the pan and burning himself.

"Oh sweetie, I was going to surprise you with the bed in breakfast, but I forgot that I left the toast in the toaster and it burned, causing the smoke to activate the alarm," Allan explained.

"Your hand is burnt; let me get a first aid kit and treat the burn," Althea expressed concern for his injured hand.

"No, there's no need for that. I don't even feel pain; I've been used to it for many years since I was a child," he said, making her even more concerned because she has no idea how his childhood life was and how it became like this.

"You're stubborn, I'll get you ointment for the burn and you'll prepare what's left of the good breakfast; don't let your surprise be ruined because of the burned toast," she said as she exited the kitchen and went to the bathroom for the first-aid kit.

After she had gone, Allan prepared the remaining breakfast and placed it on the table for them to eat. He sat down on the chair as soon as he saw his friend approaching.

"Give me your hand," she commands. He extended his hand to her, and she disinfected it before applying the ointment and wrapping it with a bandage.

"Sorry, sweetie, I may have ruined this breakfast surprise, but there's one more I hope you'll enjoy; but for now, let us just eat and you decide what to do later until my other surprise is ready for me to take you there," Allan said.

He got up from the table after they finished breakfast and excused himself because he needed to change out of his dirty clothes, but before he could leave the kitchen, Althea called him and said

"Excuse me, but who do you think is going to clean up this mess you made in the kitchen?" Althea asked, her hands on her hips and her eyebrows raised.

"What?" he asked, perplexed by her question at the time.

"You said I could do whatever I wanted until you took me to see your surprise, so here's my order for you: clean all the dishes and mess from the floor and kitchen counter, then take a shower so we can watch a movie of my choice," she said, ordering him.

"No way, I'm not cleaning this all by myself, and I don't even know how to turn the washing dish machine," he grumbled in response to her order.

"Well, it appears you're about to learn; I'll show you how to turn the dish machine once, and I hope you're not that stupid to not know how to clean the floor and counters."

"Of course not," replied Allan.

"That's great; now put this capsule inside the machine, press this grey button to turn it on, and then put the dish inside the machine, close it, and press the green button to start washing it."

"When it's finished, press the red button and open the machine; the dishes will be clean after that; and I hope you understand what I just explained to you," she said, rolling her eyes at him.

"Huh, what did you say?" he asked his mate, not listening to a word she said because he was staring at her lips.
