Lucy and Max did not bother going home and instead had their driver take them straight to Ben's penthouse. There, they were met by Selene and Ben, along with Johnny, Peter, and Selene's father who had bandages around his head.
Lucy hugged Selene as soon as she saw her and asked, "What happened? How could this happen?"
Selene just shook her head and sat on the couch, trying not to cry. Her father held her as Ben, who was standing next to her, explained.
"Selene's mother has been taken. Somehow, they were able to bribe one of the guards watching over them and he took out the other guard. I should have had more people on them!," Ben recriminated himself.
"It's not your fault," Selene said in a quiet voice, reaching out to hold on to the bottom of his shirt. Ben sat down next to her and that served as a cue for everyone else to sit down.
Ben continued with the details, "Selene received a call from her parents and went over to talk to them in person. When she..."
Selene caught him off with, "That reminds me..." She turned to her father and asked, "What did you guys want to talk to me about? You said it was important and you had to tell me in person."
Adam looked at his daughter with hesitation and concern clearly reflected in his deep brown eyes. "It's...it's...uh...I'm not sure we should talk about it right now. Your mom will want to be the one to tell you."
Selene wanted to ask more but decided against it after seeing the set of her father's jaw. "Maybe with everything going on it's best to wait. But still...," she replied.
After a few moments of silence, Max asked, "So what did the letter say and what's being done?,"
Johnny jumped in, "Same procedure as when Drakos took Selene. I can't believe he did something like this again. He never learns. We'll beat him again." He turned to Selene and her father, "You can count on that. We will get her back."
"What can we do to help?," Lucy asked.
"Just being here helps. I know you both came straight from the airport. You should go home and rest," Selene replied.
"I'm not going anywhere," Lucy said adamantly. "I still have a couple days left of my vacation and even if I didn't, there's nothing that's getting me away from your side right now."
Selene gave her friend a faint smile. Ben turned to Selene and suggested that she go lie down for a little bit. She hesitated but did not resist when Lucy led her to the bedroom. The two friends lay down together. Selene started to cry quietly so Lucy said, "Don't hold it in sweetie. Get it out." She held her friend, gently rubbing her back and telling her everything would be fine.
Back in the living room, Ben said, "Drakos is such a coward. Instead of coming after us directly, he targets women and goes after a man in a fucking wheelchair. Fucking bastard." Catching himself, he turned to Adam and apologized for the profanity.
"It's okay," Adam responded. "I feel the same way. I just feel so helpless though."
"I promise you we will find her," Ben reassured his soon to be father-in-law. "He didn't hurt Selene when he took her so that doesn't seem to be his MO. He's just holding her as leverage against us so that we'll get the DA to drop the charges."
"That's impossible though," Peter chimed in. "He has to know that."
Johnny shook his head, "He's desperate." Getting an idea, he continued, "But that might actually be how we can turn this around. I think we can use that as his weakness."
"What do you mean?," Peter asked.
"I need to make a call first then I'll fill you all in," Johnny said quickly as he got up and moved a little bit away. Taking out his cell phone, he made a call. When the call was answered, he said, "I need you to get me a meeting with someone. I'll stay on the line until you confirm."
