Chapter 2 - A Brilliant Genius

-September 21, Year 1907 Inside the provincial capital of Athenia and Its Fortress-

_______________

Six years had passed on this very day that Leon confronted such an event of his delicate mind.

_______________

It was already dawn when the scowling sun rises on the deep blue ocean sky, its light extending across the scenery. The stone roads absorbed a plethora of heat during the morning day but released quite an amount of hazy air at this time of hour. It was going to be another day of warm working times.

This was Athenia city, the province of the Osmania Empire, a place where the birth of new beginnings tides with the people.

The province city was surrounded by stone walls, each corner accommodating a shedload of watchtowers. Athenia is a large size city fortress, sat near the coastline of its area.

In every watchtower, several men stared silently at their posts as they bring safety around the area. The atmosphere was peaceful yet somewhat unwelcome. For a large-sized fortress, the army was always relentless, but today's watch was particularly different.

"We only have two hours to finish the attempt assault..." A man said.

A man sitting at one's end of the medieval curtain stone walls with his friend mumbled with a whisper of cautiousness. He was currently shaking with a time ticking towards being possibly suspected by the patrol guards.

Due to the defeat of the nation in many great conflicts, the entire state had to face such a crisis and hope for the nation to strive again, even though the stability had dropped considerably low.

Even during the conflict of the great nations, the army was barely on the winning side and have little room for error.

Repeated losses made it even more perilous; the situation also becomes worse as the navy almost vanishes in an undeniably many supposed victory. The internal turmoil made it clear that the Osmania Empire is beginning to collapse. Its decline in power slowly degraded the empire into an almost fragmented state.

Suddenly, an explosion blasted from the walls, followed by a group of armed-like militia tense up to see the situation.

"Captain Viktor Davos, a man is down! He's not reacting even when we do a chest compression on him!"

Leon was watching from afar as he saw the incidents. The walls are made to cover the whole city of Athens and a fortress build near the capital. He knows already that he was in a different timeline from the world he came.

It never be a fortress built like a star in Athens from his previous life world history.

"Ah—Damn it! How can we sync up with other army groups if we always end up like this—!"

The man with his back against the stone walls, Captain Viktor Davos, finally losing his mind. He face his head towards the skies and rested like a dead man.

There wasn't any time to waste, but they knew the task was impossible with how short on manpower they were... The patrol guards were approaching, but there weren't any obvious solutions, pushing their minds into a breaking point.

Leon was not a soldier, nor was he a politician or political figure of any kind. He was a civilian, an ordinary child living in a small coastal town. He was born to a family of bakers and grew up on baking. He has been in Athens since he was born, where his parents lived.

In fact, he didn't know much about anything except the simple basics, such as how baking works, and how it relates to his life so far, and military experience from his previous life, and so on. But he does know one thing that he does not want to forget, one fact that is more important than any other, the knowledge that the whole world will change tomorrow...

And he has decided that he would rather die here than live in a place that was about to turn upside down. His parents have told him that his dream might come true and that he shouldn't be afraid because they have faith in him. This confidence, however, misplaced or misplaced it may be, gave him the strength to fight, to protect himself, to protect those close to him. Even if he knew this was not the time to fight against the forces of good or evil, this did not stop the young man from trying to do something and keep them safe. He is determined to survive, despite it, and will make the best of a bad situation, no matter what.

"Sir Da... Davos?" Leon stammered.

"What is it now!"

He lowered his head after hearing someone address him, and as he opened his eyes a young child with a gentle smile appeared.

"I have baked the sandwich bread at my mother's house?"

The pain on Viktor's face was swept away, like a man who saw a streak of light in the midst of despair.

"Oh... Leon... You shouldn't be here and where is your father?"

"I looked through the surrounding area a while back and most of the patrol guards are told to report back to the camp. Can you come with me with your other four units and leave that dead guy here for a form of deception?" Leon said.

"Of... Of course, I might as well take this opportunity right now, you have already flip through my units situation, right?" Capt. Viktor concluded and looked to his men. "Take care of that person immediately, now."

The man speaking with Viktor, Leon Alexios-Leventis, walked down on the dirt pavement like nothing happened and started turning back to their bakery immediately. He looked back to the dead man, all the while recalling his past military service back then in his old life and to be considered that Leon was a young child this time.

"Eh, Capt. Davos, we can't leave this guy like that... Erm, we could give him a proper burial, let us resolve this..."

Viktor men were standing near the fallen ally, while they were unsure whether to follow his orders or not.

"Ensure the main area is silently operational, take some of his clothes out, remove his personal identification or so... And take this opportunity to escape. Erm, you should also begin burning his body a little bit and pour some drips of oil in the vicinity, and let it escalate. For the escaping part... Sir Davos, can you order your units to follow you?" Leon looked up at Viktor as the captain walks near him. "Yes, this tactic will work initially. Uh, there are some weird parts of my plans but can all of you risk losing everything?"

Leon was 6 years old and considered part of the younger generation within the era, but no one questioned his instructions because of the commotion and the mistakes they made. This was due to his track record in his military service back in the past. Since he was born in this world, he was known for his brilliant thinking and those who are part of the insurgents also acknowledged this fact. Since he was on the case, it meant the light of hope is in sight. Leon was undoubtedly a genius child whether it was in his old world or here in this newfound reality, if he sees a solution for the problem, people would endure it no matter how brutal it was.

"Alright, that should cover it. We should abandon the area already." Viktor said as he direct his orders to his men.
