Chapter 25 - Imminent Training Arc

Luke sighed and looked at him.

"So… what's your name?"

"Sai."

They were both bewildered by Eula's orders, but it wasn't something either could go against.

"You are interested in becoming a knight, Sai?" Luke's tone was a little… lukewarm, and he smiled.

"Oh, yeah. I'm just not sure if I'm capable enough, but I'll do my best." He was looking forward to it.

"Okay, follow me, I'll show you around the camp."

After a brief tour around the place, Luke led him inside a building that was probably the official's barracks.

"I'll register you with the apprentice squad, but I need to know which one would suit you the most. Have you had any sword training before?"

"I have not." Sai didn't consider yesterday's sword flailing a proper experience.

"Okay… it's good that you are honest. Are you a registered adventurer?"

Sai found this question weird, but decided to not show it since it could give away his identity as a foreigner and invite more problems.

"…No."

"That's fine. Just one more question, you don't have a Vision, right?" Luke half-assedly probed.

"No… not yet."

"Don't lose hope." Luke comforted. "My uncle got his when he was 32, so you still have time." He sounded a little proud.

"Your uncle…"

Sai found this information was interesting. If the uncle was a no-one, it could mean that Visions are more abundant than he thought.

"Parsifal Imunlaukr. His wield of Pyro energy was unparalleled in the upper district, and everyone thought he would regain glory for the clan… Alas…" His smile slowly died, and an uncomfortable feeling swept by.

"Ahem… So, do you have a Vision yourself, Mr. Luke?"

"You can call me Instructor. And no, I don't have one. I'm content with being a Blessed."

"I see…"

'What's a Blessed?'

The pair reached a desk in the second floor, and Luke passed the information of the new recruit to the logistics secretary. Sai was placed into Squad 6, and then Luke led him outside once more. 'Bahh… almost Squad 7.'

Outside, the sun was setting, shining a golden light onto the beautiful city.

"Your squad is composed of beginner's in the greatsword school, so luckily you will fit well. The only thing is that they are a bit younger, is that a problem?" Luke had a bittersweet smile on his face.

"No, of course not. I just want to learn. Will you be the one teaching me?"

"Yes, I personally instruct your squad. You better be ready for it, it's no easy task to be elevated to a knight."

Sai could see that he was only half-joking, so he remained silent.

Luke took him to the newbies' barracks, and inside a tent. He checked that everything was in place, gave him some other instructions and stood straight.

"There are rations in that metal chest if you are hungry. There's milk and wine in those barrels over there. Sleep early, training commences at dawn everyday." He advised as he walked away.

Sai wanted to ask him about his relationship with Eula, but Luke seemed in a hurry to leave so he just let it be for the moment.

"Thank you, Instructor." Sai was honestly thankful for the goodwill the kind man showed him.

After having a taste of the bland rations, Sai completed some basic hygiene and laid down on this mattress. The room was literally a tent, but there was enough space for two people to live there.

As per usual, Sai pondered and pondered about the eventful day. Some of his previous actions made him angry and some made him cringe. Little by little, he was noticing how real this world was, and how it greatly differed from the game.

"I won't need to get anyone's trust if I get stronger, besides being awesome to wield a greatsword or the elements to defeat enemies… I should focus on learning more things and getting stronger. I wonder if I can get a Vision… Or maybe use elemental power without one, like the Traveller. I should try it!"

"How does it go? I have to first feel it inside me…"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"Okay, that's not working… I guess I'll talk to Lisa later."

"…"

"Hmm… Now that I think about it, I was placed in the school of greatsword, and in Squad 6. That means that there are at least other five squads in my school. If there are four people per squad, that's at least 24 trainees in one school. Assuming the schools of spear, sword and archery have a similar number, there are a hundred trainees on the camp…" He calculated. "Although I don't know much about this subject, the Mondstadt from the game couldn't possibly have a thousand knights, and they are probably in much smaller number than the city's militia and garrison…based on their population… maybe only Liyue could possess that amount of Millelith, not to speak of elite troops…"

"…"

"I hadn't noticed before, but the city is really prosperous. I couldn't see a shred of poverty, although I walked mostly through the upper district. If I were to learn how they did it, if they actually did it, my world would benefit a lot… I must take a look at the lower district sometime."

"…"

"Ugh… I can't sleep, I guess I'll work out a bit."

And so, Sai went to sleep a few hours later.
