"So? Did you manage to heal her?"
Laareeh could hear the worried tone in Rowols voice. It was strange hearing him worried about anyone but himself, as that's all he had seemed to have cared about on Tarrah.
"She should be fine," Laareeh finally managed to say as she sighed heavily. "It took a lot to heal the damage from the silver, so don't make this a habit of calling on me."
"Thank you!" Rowol said with a sigh of relief. He moved to open to open the door, but Laareeh stopped him.
"Give her time to rest. You can see her in the morning. Healers' orders," Laareeh said with her hand on the door. She only removed it once Rowol nodded his head. "Now, if you will excuse me, I will be headed back to my pack. I'm sure they're worried about me since I should have been home hours ago,"
"Pack? You have a... pack here? They're not Likkahns are they?"
"What does it matter?"
"Because you know you should be in our pack Laareeh, not some werewolf pack. You're not one of them." Rowol said as he followed her out the house, running his fingers through his hair.
"Yea, well they were the ones who didn't treat me like I was lower than dirt itself, now did they?" Laareeh said with a scowl on her face. "They actually treated me like I was an actual part of the pack."
Rowol sighed and continued running his fingers through his hair. A nervous habit he seemed to have picked up on over the past couple of years it seemed. He knew Laareeh was correct and had every right to be furious with him and their old pack. He wouldn't admit it, being too proud as an Alpha, but he and their old pack mates had not exactly treated her the best which resulted in her running away even when they crash landed here on this dying world.
A sudden howl broke the silence. Laareeh's ears perked up and she turned her head in the direction of the howl. It was her pack mates alerting their presences to Rowol and letting them know that they were approaching. A small group of about five wolves broke through the tree line. They were slightly larger than wolves with two of them being red, two being dark grey, and the last one being brown. One of the dark grey wolves stepped forward. He was slightly larger than others.
"Sorry, I know I should have given you a heads up. It was a last-minute thing," Laareeh spoke to the wolf as it walked closer, eyeing Rowol and the other Likkahns that had now gathered outside of their homes to see what was going on. Seeing the werewolves though, some of them got defensive and even transformed, just in case. "Them? They are my old pack mates, the ones I was telling you about. I didn't know they were in the area either until Rowol walking into Mr. Danver's shop,"
"You can understand them?" Rowol asked as an eyebrow rose to his hairline.
"I mean...yea. I mind link with them." Laareeh said with a shrug, running her hand gently over the wolf's head as it nuzzled under her hand. Rowol seen this and scowled a bit.
"So, you mind linked with them, but you never mind link with us?" Rowol raised his voice a bit and stepped toward Laareeh. The wolf at her side growled a warning, causing Rowol to rethink his action.
"Yea. It's honestly a different type of mind link, not quite as in depth an invasive as mind linking with our own kind is. They don't see memories; they simply use it as a form of long distant communication. Simply telepathy is all it really is for them." Laareeh rubbed just behind the ear of the wolf, smiling a bit. She pulled off the large shirt she had borrowed and tossed it to Rowol. "Like I said, don't make this a habit."
Rowol caught the shirt and opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. Laareeh transformed into her animal form. Seeing the size difference between werewolves and Likkahns really put into perspective the difference between them. In her animal form, her shoulders were just about even with the top of the Alpha's head. It was a laughable difference really, especially to the Likkahns.
The male wolf bumped shoulders with Laareeh as she gave one final glance at Rowol and those who used to be her pack mates. Then she turned around and followed behind the Alpha and the other werewolves as they made their way back through the forest to their own territory. It was a slower pace than Rowol and Laareeh traveled at, so it would take some time for them to get back to the pack territory.
*Two hours later*
"You really had us worried Laareeh!"
"I know Lukas, I'm sorry." Laareeh said again for the hundredth time she was sure of it. "Rowol is the son of my old Alpha, though I guess he would be the Alpha of that pack now,"
"You should have at least taken Marcus with you." Lukas said as they opened the door to the pack house. The packhouse was quiet as most were asleep at this hour. So of course, they lowered their voices in order to not wake up anyone. "What if they had decided to attack you or try to keep you there?"
"You're over exaggerating Lukas. Likkahns are different than your kind here and would not attack a female nor a healer." Laareeh said, walking into the kitchen of the packhouse and making a beeline for the fridge. She had missed dinner and was starving at this point.
"But we don't know this Laareeh. Your people, from what you have told us, are vastly different than our people. We don't know if we can trust them or not." Lukas tried again, leaning on the counter as he watched Laareeh pull out leftovers from dinner. She didn't waste any time in chowing down. Like werewolves, she had a healthy appetite. In fact, she could out eat three werewolves easily which seemed to be what she had intended on doing this very moment. "Besides, what if the Yellowstone or the Teton pack ran across you and decided to do something? Then what?"
"Well," Laareeh said in-between bites of food. Lukas got a glass of water for her and put it down. She quickly gulped some down to wash down the food. "Then Rowol and my old pack would have stepped up and protect me. I told you; healers are the most protected of our kind. We are few and far in between when it comes to our people."
"You keep telling me you're a healer, but what does that mean?" Lukas asked, brows pushed together as he tried to grasp the idea.
"Guess....I never showed you huh? Well, we've really had no reason for needing it here so far, but I can heal." Laareeh said after swallowing another mouthful of food. She looked to Lukas who still looked as confused as before. With a sigh, Laareeh wipped her hand over the back of her mouth and went to the counter to grab a kitchen knife. Without a word, she pulled it out and drug the blade over her arm.
"Laareeh!"
Lukas jumped forward to stop her but stopped as he got within a foot of her as he saw the silver color of her blood. Another difference between the people of this world and her own. Setting the knife down, Laareeh put her free hand over the wound and seconds later a gentle green energy pulsated from her fingertips and palm of her hand. Green tendrils extended down and touched her wound and right before Lukas' very eyes, the wound closed itself. Once the wound was gone, there wasn't even a trace of it on her pale skin. She looked toward Lukas who was now looking at her with wide eyes.
"Does...anyone else know you can do this?" He asked, lowering his voice to a whisper.
"No one from this pack, only from my old pack, and as I've said...they won't harm him. If anything, they will kill anyone that draws blood on me," she said with a soft chuckle.
"That's good at least but don't let anyone else know about this Laareeh, not without being sworn to me for secrecy. You know many of our packmates come from other packs who found no use for them or chased them out, but they still have family in those packs. We don't need a pack war to break out since we've already been having issues with rogues lately." Lukas warned in a hushed whisper.
"Understood." Laareeh said with a firm nod of her head. "Can I go to bed now?"
"Yes, you can go to bed." Lukas said with a bit of a chuckle. "But remember, we have some training to do with the young ones in the morning."
"Yea, yea," Laareeh waved him off before climbing the stairs and making her way to her bed where she could comfortably crash.
