"Kaboom"
The soldiers ran through the trip wires and the grenades exploded, limbs and parts of bodies were blown apart. Screams of agony, blood, debris of stairs were the conclusion of that moment.
The walls & the stairs were branded red in blood of the fallen. 5-6 guys were blown apart & the others were seriously injured; bleeding out heavily. They'll soon become my exp points.
System notified me with ping sound, one after another as they died. The basic problem of all these hired soldiers were close combat skills! Infantry armed with swords and spikes. Archers were pretty much weak & useless as bodyguard. They had range which was good for offence but for close combat defence, they were not the best option.
They say a pen is mightier than a sword but here an assault rifle was mightier than anything that stood infront of it.
But, there were two guys who tried throwing daggers, they peaked behind those walls; adjoining stairs. As, one misfired dagger fell near me, I got the hint.
Small bursts of lead rage silenced them by penetrating the walls, that they had ducking behind. The rest didn't tried that formula, seeing the outcome.
The men who were inside the arena didn't knew anything that was happening outside, the rest were scared enough to get inside. The firefight cleared away the public who were on the road outside.
They saw a man who was armed with a peculiar musket; killing brutally armed mens with ease & that man was standing on the main road outside the battle arena without any hint of fear. A very few stayed hidden behind walls, peaked out of window panes to check out the current situation. It pumped up their adrenaline seeing these kinds of violent incidents.

The second lot of mercenaries couldn't run away. Going back and running through back door would be noticed by the party who hired them. If the owner dies, they won't face any trouble. By any means, If that man lives, they would be facing serious penalties on charges of desertion and breach of contract.
So, the only path left is forward. A group of men started approaching again. Few seconds later, another explosion shook them up again.
Same scenario but with much worse outcome repeated again, blood, shattered bones, pieces of limbs, blood mist. The last few took cover, as they were puzzled to not understand what was happening. The sudden blasts and a following devastation which leads to more death toll.
They couldn't understand why everytime they tried to move, a mountain of flame is engulfing them. The second one was much deadlier than the first one. Obviously they didn't understood the difference between the lethality of hand grenades and land mines.
The third lot was left with a group of 10 to 9 men. This was the last lot, the rest of them were lying lifeless on the ground. There was not a single intact body, these bodies only had their upper section or lower section; the rest of the portion turned into blood mushroom and painted the walls, staircases red.
Some minutes passed by, there was again a death silence. It was getting boring so, I fired some stray rounds towards the walls the soldiers were ducking behind; to instigate them.
Finally, after some of my lead taunts; the last of the lot made a death charge. They ran towards me and the last anit personnel mine did it's job perfectly.
Out of this group one guy was slightly wounded by the shrapnels; he was the last man behind this crew who tried escaping this near death incident.
BLAM BLAM BLAM
Bursts of lead stopped the fleeting guy & the rest remained dead, bleeding out on the ground.
The last notification of killing these soldiers rang through my system; reloaded my stg44 and stored all the dead ones, to sort them out later.
While I was readying myself, a stern, enraged voice stopped me from moving forward.
"Stop at once and surrender. You have laid enough destruction. Destroyed public property, taken innocent lives."
"Just look at this place, what have you done!"
"According to the imperial law, you'll be arrested and await your trial. Stay still & slowly drop your weapons on the ground."
A young tall man who was on horseback, following him 8-9 soldiers, they were all royal swordsman or spearman. Followed by the local police chief & some police men. The one who was on the horse was some high ranking soldier. His way of speaking & the way he was dressed was pretty much different from the other guards.
A total of 15-16 men were infront of me, they tried to stop me from taking my revenge. But, I was still happy as I got to test out my new gun. They were at approx of 10-15 metres distance from me. All of these guys were armed with swords, spears mostly but the mounted officer and the police chief carried one musket pistol each.
Three things could have happened which lead these guy here, to me, to be slaughtered like sheep.
Firstly they were casually patrolling the street and discovered me. It was not possible becuase the police men with their local chief and an imperial officer with his soldiers came together. It can't be a simple patrolling discovery. Secondly, they came here hearing the explosion & gunfire. Thirdly, someone reported this incident to them, which could the reason they came here.
After killing so many men, I was becoming reckless and arrogant inside. It was like, that feeling of invincibility or pure godhood that ran through my surreal mind.
Without wasting any time in that crouching position I rolled two Mk2 grenades towards them. Seeing this, the both of the police chief and imperial army officer shot me with their pistols.
These numbers -57 -49 of damage portion received from the enemy was visible over my head. Also my notification rang twice notifying me of these damages. One bullet hit me in the chest and the second one in the stomach. Took away 100+ hp of mine, but after getting hit so many times I didn't even flinched. It was like needle sting as compared to before.
On the other hand, my grenades exploded and did much worse than my enemy had expected. First explosion exploded and seviourly wounded the horse and the officer fell off his horse. While the wounded horse fell over his mount and squashing the officer to death, plus killing some other soldiers too. The second explosion helped in clearing out the remaining troops.
Both, the explosions killed most of the troops. The one's that were hanging with a thread of life; were permanaently silenced by my stg44.
A final cleanup and of the mess that was created, I was finally ready to move forward the betting office without any hurdle. Leaving behind blood puddles, pices of flesh, bones, debris created from explosions and lodged bullets inside the walls of this building.
A small footprint in the waves of time...
