"You don't have to be like that. Just say you want us out of the room and we will comply" Iris did not trust Rose at all.
The other was too quick and this offer was too perfect for Iris to believe at first glance. She was not an idiot who would take the other at face value.
Especially not when the other had arranged this meeting with a purpose.
But still, an opportunity was an opportunity and Iris should not argue with this right now.
"Please leave us alone now. We should not overwhelm the patient with too many people right now. I'm sure you understand this as well Miss Rose" there it was, the first break in that mask.
It was a single second of irritation that flashed on Rose's face before her mask mended itself up.
"Sure. We will be outside if you need us" Rose dragged her blond companion out with a happy smile.
What a fearsome person that redhead was and she surely was the more dangerous of the two. Iris needed to tread carefully if she wanted to get away with her hands clean.
"Are we alone now? I was so scared the whole time those two were here. I thought they came to arrest us again" Diana surely looked shook. The bravery from earlier had been an act she had put up to deal with the situation.
"Not in the clear yet. It would not surprise me to know that those two were keeping tabs on us still. Anyway, let's have a look at your partner for now" and face away from the door.
Iris had anticipated this and already had a plan in motion for such a thing.
"A-Alright. If you say so" Diana faced away from the door, her trust in Iris clear as a day.
'System, are we being watched? Can you detect what kind of magic is being used on us by them?' Iris could feel the magic, even see it with her medical vision but she could not pinpoint it.
Similar spells tended to give off similar hues of magic. Only experience could cover this hole up.
And maybe the system as well.
'Sampling the surrounding magic…..Sampling complete.
Acquiring result in 3…2…1…Result acquired.
Sound magic is being used. Characterization: any sound made inside the room is being transmitted outside.
Visual magic is being used. The door is an illusion and shows anything that is going on inside.
No other incidence of magic usage is detected in the vicinity.'
So Iris had been right to suspect the other two. By this point, the other two likely knew that they had been suspected by her but they seemed not to be reacting to her words.
Maybe they were confident in their skills and did not fear being caught by her.
"Please come this way. I would need your assistance as well. Please position yourself in this way and press when I tell you to" of course there was a procedure like this but Iris was not foolish enough to allow an untrained person to perform that.
This position she had shifted Diana into was a scam, a show for the audience. This way, they would not be able to tell what was being discussed between them.
Diana and her partner were a crucial part of Iris's plan and she needed them to cooperate.
"A-Am I doing this right?" Diana asked, her voice a little panicked.
"You're doing fine. Just keep it up" not that the other was doing anything at all.
She quickly made sure there was nothing wrong with Diana's partner before she placed the special paper on top of the patient and send magic inside it.
'This is a scam. I just needed you there so that those two cannot hear our conversation. Don't talk at all and just nod your head if you understand' Iris looked as shock bloomed on that older face.
But it was soon replaced by understanding and she nodded.
"So, how does it work exactly?" it was an innocent question and one that could be excused as well. The other two would likely think that Diana was asking this question regarding the medical procedure.
Iris acted as if she ignored that question altogether.
'You need to send magic into it to work but there are other ways to activate it as well. I will inform you more about it tonight so be aware. There might be surveillance on you two so be careful as well' the elder nodded in understanding and Iris slid two small paper pieces under her hand.
"Your partner seems alright to me but I would like for her to still drink a broth to strengthen it. It's nothing fancy, just the standard powder age. Note it down for me" and here came the complicated part.
"A-Alright" the other stood up, making sure her paper hand was never visible by the door. That paper already had a few ingredients listed on it.
Now, everything else was anything but a scam.
Iris quickly dictated the most basic strengthening potion recipe to the other, ones even those without magic could make, before calling it an end.
"You both done yet? I'm getting bored now" Rose did not waste any time barging in once that discussion was over.
She had been listing in.
"What amazing timing you have" Iris as being sarcastic, but the other seemed too cheery to notice. Likely an act as well to throw Iris off track.
"I know right? I often have the best timing in these situations. Now, let's go back. We should get moving before the sun goes down. I need my beauty sleep tonight to prepare for tomorrow" that was big information to give away.
Rachael seemed to think that as well because the glare she aimed at Rose was questioning.
Which the other ignored. Whatever she was planning, Rachael seemed not to be in the know. Must have been frustrating for the blond knight.
The village seemed to be in a hurry that evening. Everyone was running from one place to another.
But they also seemed used to it.
"Take care not to get squished beneath the traffic. It hurts bad" Rose was in the lead once again and Rachael took the rear.
Iris did her best to avoid the ongoing traffic but it seemed impossible. She had to actively use her magic to heal the small bruises she was getting along the way.
Rose seemed to be doing the same but Rachael seemed to not have that luxury.
But the time they came out of the crowd and near the less-densely populated commission's office, the blond seemed to be favoring her right side.
"I will go in and report that we are back. You wait for me here" and the redhead left them along.
"Here, let me help. Your left side seemed injured" Iris moved her hand on the blond elf's left side and her magic begin its work. There was not much damage but it could come to bite the warrior back in a difficult fight.
Despite her situation, Iris did not want Rachael dead.
Especially with what was to come in the next week.
"Ah, thanks. It was not a big deal though" the blond seemed awkward at the small touch. She even flinched at it initially but relaxed pretty soon as the magic washed over her.
There was an odd but curious look in her eyes though which spelled trouble.
'EXP +50
The user leveled up.
New level 5. (500/1000)'
This was new, the visible exp and the requirement to level up.
But as usual, Iris did not get to ask the system about it because Rose was back. Impeccable timing indeed.
