Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 - Dance for two

Fenyang's Pov

After the speech I have made I've really thrown myself into work. I have a Kingdom to lead and feel like I'm stumbling in the dark and this needs to change. As routine Klaus informs me on the most recents developments and issues in the Kingom and leaves me a stack of paperwork to fill in. Also routinely I've had to turn Zaffera down on meet ups.

The feelings I harbour for her couldn't match up any better as this situation gives me a way to avoid addressing them but It also leaves me feeling quite empty.

I hear and knock on the door and I already know what's next. But I do one thing differently.

"We can catch up tonight okay... And I won't forget this time, I promise". The words come out at once and it's already too late. Seeing her frowning face I couldn't help but do it. Last time I did, I go so caught up with work that I completely forgot to show up but this time is like an opportunity to set things right. Also I wouldn't want her to think I'm avoiding her.

Zaffera's Pov

Eventhough I feel out of touch with why I'm even carrying on with the mission, I can't help but show up like clockwork here at his Palace. I have noticed some changes too, not all for the better.

"Hey!" I say forcing an excited expression on my face, already anticipating the response I will be greeted with.

"Zaf-, oh I'm sorry but I really can't make it today... I have so much paper work to take care of and the kingdom is really suffering after the last attack." he says hardy looking up from his work. It's been the same thing for some time now. I'm not surprised as he said he would be taking the Kingdom's matters seriously, but...

"Sure, can I help you at least? You always have some much to do", my voice struggles to keep a positive tone as I can literally feel him slipping away. Yes perhaps it was all but a mission at first but not anymore, he's a friend now. I wouldn't be so bothered if it wasn't that I haven't seen him genuinely smile once for days. He plunged himself into work and gave his life away. And I feel somewhat culprit of that. I was the one that told him to give up the matters of the door.

"Sounds great though not possible because I really need to focus. We can catch up tonight okay... And I won't forger this time, I promise". He finally looks up from his paperwork and I meet his eyes. I simply heave a gentle 'okay' shutting the door being me shut.

There's no point really in me staying here at Palace so I head back home.

"Ginn!", I speak loudly hoping the person of intrests hears me. A head peeks out from hiding revealing a mischievous smile I know all to well.

"You're back early", he says narrowing his eyes, "Was His Highness busy again?", raising his pitch on 'His Highness'.

I roll my eyes at him and the nod in response.

"That's good." Now it's my turn to narrow my yes at him, "You know the door thing, I think we should pick it up again, but this time we don't tell him."

"Where are you going with this?" I ask concerned at where he's train for thought is leading him. He walks up to me and warps his arms around my shoulders and whispers, "Just trust me". Then I feel shivers running up my spine.

Ginn isn't the type of person to just trust blindly. Though he might be my partner I also know how irrational and impulsive he can be. Both characteristics that are great in Battle but aren't so much anywhere else.

I look at him confused but don't question further to avoid conflict, for now at least.

Later that day as planned, I go to the enchanted guarden in hopes to see Fenyang. He promised he wouldn't bail so I give him the benefit of the doubt. To my surprise he's actually here before me, sat down on a bench before the tiny body of water that goes into a much greater one.

A smile creeps on my face and I speed up my pace to meet him.

"You look happier", I say after our greetings.

"Yeah this my first break in who knows how long. I owe you some thanks." I look at him confused and he continues, "I wouldn't be having a much needed break if it wasn't for you."

I would have sworn this moment would have latested a while, yet it is inturupted by Klaus' appearance.

"What's the matter?" He asks as soon as he shows up.

"Master, we have a trial to take care of, I sincerely apologise."

And with that I'm sat alone. I notice a piece of paper on the bench in the low light. It must have slipped out of Fenyang's pocket.

When I open it a realise it's exactly what Ginn wanted earlier today and shove in my pocket and leave. As I walk through my empty hallways of my household Palace I'm startled by a familiar figure at the end.

"We need to stop meeting this way," I joke with a geniune smile which is met by a cold look from his part which tenses me up instantly.

"You didn't mention heading over again."he speaks coldly, his arms crossed.

I look down at the floor, feeling as though I've done something I shouldn't have.

"I must have forgotten to mention that Fenyang asked to meet up tonight since he was busy with work this morning..." I tuck a loose curl behind my ear.

He walks up to me until my vision is blocked completely by his chest. He looks down and speaks, "I just don't want you to get close to him, and it seems to me that you have."

"Exactly seems." I gesture air quoted on the word 'seems'. "I need to befriend him for the mission, you know that." I'm trying my hardest to lighted the mood, yet my tone isn't reciprocated by him.

He leans forward even closer towering right above my eyes and I feel a shake coming form him. He has changed. Ginn didn't used to be like this. Now I can hardly tell the warmth in his eyes he used to have.

"I hope." he spits out figuratively.
