Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: «Reformation (Part 1)»

***

Tilveril, Oukvar, and Horkwell are the names of three large villages that are located in the territory of the Bach clan. In addition to them, there are also various kinds of small settlements that are spread over the entire area of clan lands...

Many residents live in rather wild conditions, just not to pay taxes, so you can stumble upon a hut anywhere, the main thing is to overcome the mountains of Uldar...

One hundred thousand people live in the territory belonging to the Bach clan. In fact, a very small number, especially considering the fact that officially fifteen thousand knights are in the squad of the clan.

Of course, many of the combatants do not come from Agdar, as they call the lands belonging to the Bakh clan, which can only be reached by crossing the Moldar gorge. Many of the knights serving the clan actually come from the city of Urich, a fairly significant part of the squad's personnel come from the lands of other clans. The thing is that it is an honor to serve Bradomir Bach, and many of those who were not taken into the troops of the middle clans try, if possible, to enter the service of him.

Without further ado, anyone will choose to swear allegiance to a competent master who is known for high moral character, and has earned his status in the first place on his own, by his outstanding martial prowess.

There is, however, a huge drawback in this, especially given the pacifist policy of the Moiser clan, because of which this whole solid squad is mainly engaged in security, patrolling, and training ...

Soldiers want to eat, they need somewhere to live, wear some clothes, receive wages... In general, it is very expensive to maintain a large army that does nothing particularly useful. He doesn't conquer, he doesn't rob...

The Bach clan is not particularly rich anyway, so it also turns out that one hundred thousand people pay taxes, but at the same time another fifteen thousand need to be supported ... If it were not for subsidies from the average Moiser clan, it would be generally tight ...

There are a lot of problems and in order to solve them, a lot of things need to be changed by adopting a whole series of reforms... Fortunately, in their own land, clans can adopt any laws, however, not contradicting those that have already been established by more impressive bison...

Arriving in Agdar, Aaron first of all went, together with members of the special forces detachment, to Guldar Lake, which is located in the west of the clan territories. The place is extremely picturesque, though for some reason no one lives there ...

For the layman, such a phenomenon would be surprising, but in reality everything is extremely simple, magical animals often gather near the lake, many of which are quite dangerous for an ordinary person who is unable to use magical energy...

The village of Tilveril is located right on the ocean, where people are mainly engaged in fishing, the population is about twenty thousand. Oukvar is a forest settlement, inhabited by hunters and gatherers, with a population of about ten thousand people.

Horkwell is the largest settlement, located near the Uldar mountains, the inhabitants there do a little of everything, and this village is also the main trading center of all the lands of the Bach clan. The population of Horkwell is also the most numerous — about fifty thousand. The rest of the inhabitants, twenty thousand souls, live as hermits or small settlements throughout Agdar.

The lands of the Bah clan are surrounded on several sides by the Uldar Mountains to the south, east, and west, and to the north by the Veridian Ocean, making Agdar a highly isolated, cage-like land. However, Aaron could not have imagined a better place...

Agdar is ideal for those who want to build up strength, while not wanting to trumpet it publicly ... Guldar Lake, on the other hand, is an ideal place to build a city around it, since there is a reservoir nearby, a forest is not far, and besides, to Khorkvel , the largest village, and the Moldar gorge is within easy reach.

It is enough to build a road through the city, and thus, it is possible to connect all the scattered settlements of Agdar. The main problem in the implementation of such rather large-scale plans is financing ... Fortunately, Aaron was obviously prepared, and he has more than enough gold, especially after the plunder of the Arcer clan.

It remains only to sell everything that is of value, for this part of the detachment went around, and not after Aaron's group. Members of the special detachment will pass through several cities and sell the loot, after which, having completed a number of other assignments, they will arrive in Agdar.

But the city cannot be built with gold coins alone, people are needed here, and preferably as many as possible. Firstly, in order to quickly build the necessary buildings, and secondly, in order to work in the built city ...

Aaron was going to build the city not at all out of altruistic motives, and even more so not in order to earn even more gold coins...

Everything is extremely prosaic, it's all about the most ordinary necessity... For his future plans, it is necessary to reform the territories of the Bach clan, to make them richer, more stable, and most importantly, more secure.

When the war of the great clans begins, gold will not be such a valuable resource, such necessary things as weapons, armor, and, first of all, food will come to the fore ... The war will last six years, this is a rather long period, because of which, in peacetime, the economy will not be able to provide for everyone according to their needs.

In order to get out of the war safe and sound, you need to prepare a huge number of things. One strong squad is not enough... A strong rear is also needed, which will provide the army with everything necessary.

It is imperative to build a city, and then you need to turn the accumulated gold into resources that will help during the war...

However, in addition to many positive qualities, Agdar has one fat minus, which can cover all grandiose plans with a copper basin ... The population is extremely small, and besides, it is absolutely illiterate, they are just fishermen and hunters, and you can't change much with their help .. .
