-NuYing Zhang-
In 2075 A.D, NuYing Zhang was a thriving department supervisor for a telecommunications company called China Transglobal Communications or C.T.C. in Beijing, China. NuYing lived in a small apartment in the Wangping Area Residential District, a fifteen-minute commute from her job. NuYing commuted to work via bus to the Beijing Central Business District. China had grown into one of the most futuristic intelligent cities of its time. The city was integrated with smart technology, IoT (Internet of Things), and light-speed communication.
NuYing made one hundred and thousand cryptos in yuan a year, equivalent to 50K a year in U.S. cryptocurrency. However, most of her income was sent back home to her family living in Hanoi residential district. After sending half her payment to her family of fifteen, NuYing could only afford a one-bedroom apartment with affordable living essentials.
It was late in the evening when NuYing returned to her apartment. She had a long day of pushing papers, data entry, and running errands. NuYing took off her office attire until nothing bra and panties remained. Then, NuYing prepped her dinner of Ramen noodles, frozen shredded cabbage, and sardines into the microwave; before taking a shower. However, before she could enjoy her cleansing, she received a phone call on her P.C. phone known as the Luan.
The Luan was the cheapest Android phone she could afford. Only having two terabytes of ram and 200 gigs of storage, it was nothing compared to the Ghengis Khan Palmer (Khan for short). The Khan had eight terabytes of ram and twenty terabytes of storage. NuYing phone was a latency phone over five years old, and she was due for a phone upgrade.
"Hello," NuYing answered.
On the other end of the phone were her parents. They had just traveled to see her. Her parents had a bad habit of showing up unannounced, demanding things from her. If it wasn't more money, it was about getting married. NuYing hated talking to her parents because they came with guilt trips.
NuYing tried to get them to see her another time, but her parents insisted. NuYing's parents were demanding, which NuYing submitted to their demands. Finally, NuYing got off the phone with a frustrated look.
"SHIT!"
NuYing turned off the microwave and quickly put on some jeans, a shirt, and sneakers; before darting out of the apartment.
NuYing sat with her mother Ju Lang and her father Changpu at an American bar and grill. They both just ordered an expensive steak, potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. Trying to spare her costs, she only had a garden salad. When the bill was delivered to Changpu, he pushed it across the table to NuYing. Ju Lang looks at NuYing's plate with pride.
"You're just eating salad, good for you. You can lose weight. You are getting fat."
NuYing was 5'5 in height and was thirty pounds overweight. However, her parents did not hold back with the fat-shaming.
"Mom, please!"
"Don't be mad at your mother; she is only looking out for you. No man wants to marry a woman," Changpu replied.
NuYing looked away from her parents with disgust.
"Speaking of marriage, we found a suitable husband for you!"
"How many times. I don't want to get married. I am too focused on my career."
"NuYing, you need to get married. We want to have grandbabies."
"You already have Bo' Han. He already gave you six grandkids with his wife,"
Bo' Han was NuYing's youngest son. He was ten years younger who squandered his life to get rich quick schemes. Nothing came of it as he nearly gambled away much of his parent's income. Bo' got married to Ling Ling, his wife and the mother of his children. Bo went to jail five years ago attempting to sell counterfeit goods, such as clothes, shoes, and cell phones. After he got out, Bo' had a hard time finding a job, which he now works as a warehouse employee.
"We are not here to talk about Bo'; it is you who needs to get married. This suitor can help bring in money. He makes 973709.83 (35,000 USD cryptos) yuan cryptos a year.
"I don't care about his money or the idea of marriage. I am trying to work on my career. I can't do that while I am distracted with a husband and raising kids.
"Don't you understand we are trying to help you out," Chang replied.
"Bullshit! You are just looking for someone with deep pockets to support you."
"You ungrateful brat! We are trying to help you out before your eggs dry out. When you hit forty, you won't be able to have children, and no man would want you. Do you think your hot shit, sitting here in your fancy clothes judging us? Fine! You can die alone; all we care. Don't bother visiting us until you realize we know what's best for you."
NuYing is 30 years old and is considered a leftover woman. Leftover is a term used towards Chinese women over the age of 27 and not married. NuYing traded marriage for a middle-class income and lives comfortably but often finds herself lonely. In addition, her family alienates her due to her reluctance to get married. As a result, NuYing traded married life for a career.
Champu and Ju Lang got up and stormed out of the bar. NuYing felt that she needed a drink. NuYing went to the bar and ordered a cranberry and gin. It was not ten minutes when she noticed her parents' notice for 300 yuan cryptos to travel back home. She thought about rejecting the request, but she decided she wanted them gone. She opened her Cryptonance account on her phone and sent her 500 yuan cryptos. After NuYing receives her drink, Stephen walks up to the bar.
"I'll pay for whatever she is having, and I'll have a white Russian," Stephen replies.
