"Yeah, you're right." She admits, her gaze pulling away from Leo's. Looking out into the scenery from the window, the busy streets of the outside of a roaring city. "There are days I wonder what life would have been like if I had stayed with my grandfather. If I had taken over his little gang of criminals as my own."
"I don't think you should, honestly." Leo sighs, "You chose that path for a reason: Being an agent was something you wanted to do. Well a police officer but–" He chuckles, the feeling of the couch under Amelia shifts. "That's besides the point. Don't think about what could have been, think of what you've got now."
Hearing this from anyone was not something all too thrilling. Yet it was Leo, one of the most rancid people she had ever met– Giving her advice on her thinking patterns. Amelia knew that if she had thought about these things long ago, so many people would still be living. Leo knew nothing, he was only a small portion of the entire story.
Her fingers rub against her chin, an empty stare still holding on the outside world. "Hm." Amelia hums, opening her mouth to speak.
"Honey! I'm awake and dressed! I'm so sorry I slept in so late.." Melody's voice can be heard, Amelia's head turning to look in her direction. That cheery smile was on her lips, eyes sparkling like the stars would shimmer in the sky.
Wearing a white sundress that went down to her ankles. Small straps pulled over her small shoulders, the cream color of her skin reflecting off of the bright color. Black hair straightened down her back, the top of her head covered by a sun hat. Decorated at the side with a black bow.
The makeup on her face is light. Mascara, blush on her cheeks, lip gloss that shone in the reflection of the sun's glow.
Leo stands up, walking over to his wife to give her a light kiss on the cheek. Hands lightly placing themselves on her bare arms, rubbing. "It's alright, I know you must have been awfully tired from your shift last night."
Amelia can feel the conversation fading from her ears, her focus on the bareness of Melody's skin. She had covered up the marks flawlessly, there was no evidence of anything being there. She had to give Melody credit for her skills in the makeup department. There had to be a time where Melody had to use such a skill to be so good at it.
"Amelia." Her head snaps out of her thoughts, looking towards Leo who now was looking in her direction. "We're going out for the afternoon, are you alright being here by yourself?"
She waves her hand dismissively. "I'll be alright. I have to get in contact with my team for their cases, so silence is preferable to me." Standing up, she pushes her hair back off her shoulders.
"We'll be on our way then." Leo looks back to his wife, wrapping his arm around her waist. There's a light conversation between the two, before they're heading out the door.
Left alone in Leo's home, able to do whatever she pleased.
Immediately after the door shuts she runs towards her room. Swinging the door open, pulling her suitcase onto her bed. The lid is flipped open, Amelia quickly pulling out clothing that remained within it. Throwing onto the bed, she digs her into the pockets of the interior. Quickly pulling out a handgun, tossing on top of the pile of clothing.
Once she has everything she needs, she pulls the suitcase shut. Zipping it up and putting it back under her bed. With her hands full, she grabs the clothing and gun in her hands. Rushing over to the room the wedded couple shared.
With the outfit she had put into her arms, she places it onto the bed. Followed by the gun in one hand, turning away to open the couple's closet. Amelia begins to take the empty hangers, putting the clothing on them one by one. Hiding her black clothing within the multitude of colors scattered within the wooden box.
Back to the bed, she grabs the gun. Crouching down in the closet to find a shoebox. Amelia opens it, discovering it is empty and places the gun within it. If anything were to happen to her, she would have a safe place to easily pull out her weapon. She had stored one in her room when she first arrived, and now within their own room.
With her tasks at hand finished, Amelia sits on the edge of the bed. Hands pulled to the front of her, head dropped down slightly. Hiding guns in a person's house, she had truly stooped down to an all new low.
She doesn't sit on the bed for long, getting up and walking back into her own room. Grabbing onto her briefcase she had brought that sat next to her bed. Opening it up, pulling out her cellphone.
Amelia had yet to check it since she had arrived, using nothing but burner phones the entire time she wished to communicate. The only person she had used them for was her father, he was the only one who really needed to know where she was.
Yet when turning on her actual phone, automatically notifications begin to fill her screen. All of them from one person: Dallas. Multiple text messages, multiple phone calls, even multiple voicemails. She slides her finger over the screen, typing in her passcode to unlock it.
She opens her messages, clicking their text conversation.
"Amelia, where are you? Are you alright?"
Worry, nothing but worry.
"Amelia, answer me. Please, I don't even know where you are."
Her father had to be wrong, he was so worried for her. He cared about her, he loved her. Why would he go through so much trouble to know where she was if he didn't?
"You can't do this to me, you can't just disappear! Amelia, come back now!"
She sighs, closing off of the messages and heading over to her voicemails. There had to be at least ten of them. All from Dallas, and all within a few minutes of each other. It was unlike him to leave so many text messages, phone calls, voicemails even when he was worried for her. If she didn't answer her phone, it was always for good reason.
Onto the middle of the voicemails she missed, she clicks onto it. Hearing static for the first few seconds, before a sigh.
"Amelia, I just got home. I looked all over the house for you– Where are you? Where do you go?" His voice sounded calm even with his dire tone. "You're injured, you should have been resting. Amelia, call me back please, I need to know what's going on."
It sounded like any boyfriend would be if his partner went missing. Worried, strained, unable to understand where they had run off to. If she hadn't made this bet not to tell him, she would have called him days ago.
The next voicemail is clicked on, and Dallas' voice is instant. Yet this time, his voice is stern, demanding. "Why would you do this, Amelia. We tell each other everything and you do this to me? Don't you trust me?" An out of breath laugh is heard, Amelia can feel goosebumps going up her spine just listening. "You need to call me back, now. Wherever you are, I will come and get you.
His voice, it didn't sound like the man she fell in love with. He was calculated, demanding. Unable to recognize him just by the way he spoke through the phone. It wasn't him, it didn't feel like him. There was no warmth in his words, no spark in his personality.
It was cold, just as cold as it had been before he arrived in her life.
Ice cold to the ears, to the touch. How could she go back to California and face him, after the things she had done. How angry he seemed to be with her sudden disappearance. If he knew what was going on behind the scenes, he would still have stopped her from ever adventuring out on her own. Dallas had to understand that it had to be just her saving her father's life. Trying to get in the way would get the person she loved the most slaughtered.
There were chills running down her spine continuously, goosebumps up her arms. If she could see herself in the mirror, her skin would pale from her normal tone. Holding the phone in her tight grip, unable to let go. Zoning out of existence, trying to grasp the true reality.
Had things changed so drastically that she had now lost the man she spent five years of her life with? The man who took her under his wing, showed her the finer things in life. Gave her the opportunities to achieve her dreams. Now being unrecognizable, even just by the sound of his voice.
Another part of her life falling apart, it couldn't be like this. Not after the five years she tried her hardest to escape the collapse.
