Chapter 18 - Just One Night.

The comfort on her back vanishes as she feels the tight grip lift her up. Not letting their lips pull from one another, her arms wrap around his neck. Pushing herself closer to his chest, feeling his heart beating within. It was steady, he was calm. Completely in his element, while her heart bounced against her chambers. Begging to be heard, yearning for release.

His footsteps moved away from the couch, feeling the bounce of her body against him as he moved. Amelia didn't care, she couldn't get enough of Dallas filling her senses. Every part of her longed for his touch, craved for his body: simply to become one.

Amelia's back hits a soft surface, yet their lips never cease to mold against each other. Hands tracing up her sides, to place onto the hands around his neck. Dallas pulls them from his body, entangling his fingers into hers. He pulls away, staring down at Amelia as her eyes flutter open.

He chuckles, tilting his head to the side to look at her. A smile of happiness, to her. She rarely saw this sort of smile on him, the sight made her turn her face away. Cheeks burning hot with the rising heat, flustered like a young girl again.

"Amelia, you aren't going to look at me?" Dallas asks, "You were just a few moments ago." She can feel the trailing of his fingers against her jawline. While the other hand stayed gripped with a tight grasp.

She clears her throat, "Your smile, it caught me off guard. You rarely smile like that." It was too nice to see such a smile on his lips.

Another chuckle, "Amelia, we've been together for a very long time. You've seen me smile plenty of times." His words pull her head back in his direction, she shakes her head.

"No, not like then. Most of the time I've seen a casual smile, one that gets you through the day. One with formality laced in between your lips." She sucks the air through her teeth. "We're alone here, your smile was– As loving as the first time we admitted our feelings to one another. When you said–"

"When I said you made my heartbeat irregular?" He stifles back a chuckle, "Or after that, when I had asked you to be my partner rather than mentor and student."

"Not either of those moments. It was much simpler than that." Her words cause his eyebrows to raise in confusion. "Then what?" He asks.

Amelia smiles, chuckling at his confusion. "It was when I had uttered the words: 'Yes Dallas, I will come back to Los Angeles with you.' That was the first time I had seen such a smile."

It was clear in her eyes the sentimental recollection of their first intimate moment together had surprised him, to which his cheeks only slightly flush colors of pink. Dallas rarely smiled, rarely blushed or became flustered. When he did, she hoped it would last a lifetime. A frame trapped in time, a loop she could play over and over again.

His hand now warm, cups her cheek. Eyes of violet and lilac stare down at her, a sigh of content leaves his lips. "I love you, Amelia." His words are clear and true to her. She hears him, she always will.

"No matter what, I will always cherish you as my partner. I swear."

Amelia shakes her head, "You don't need to swear to me. I believe you, how could I not when you've got my heart completely in your hands? From the moment you helped me escape."

"I knew you had potential," He says, palm rubbing against her cheek. "I was right in more ways than one. My little agent, all grown up. I love the sight of you more and more everyday."

His words bring more heat to her cheeks, biting down on her bottom lip. He had never been so forward before, now here he was. What triggered these emotional confessions, had it overfilled to the point he could not hold it any longer? She didn't care, she was overjoyed to hear it from his lips.

"I feel the same way, Dallas."

A raw moment of emotion, something that would never leave the walls of their condo. Yet, with all the memories framed and placed in the view of others in their home: none understood the deep connection the two had. How far they had come, how much he had taught her. From admiring him from a safe distance, to loving him all the more up close. He was one of the greatest things life had given her, after so much bloodshed.

He helped her with rebirth, now reborn into something entirely new. Yet, never losing the part of herself she chooses to leave behind.

He healed her wounds, got her back onto her feet again. Kissed the cuts and scars that adorned her body with love and care. Even as new ones were added, he cared for them all the same. With love, with a gentle touch he knew she needed. She needed him, more than he needed her.

That was okay in her heart, it didn't matter how much he wanted her nor needed her. As long as he stood by her side, everything was calm. No body parts being thrown through her windows, no mafia cartels, no cases at all.

Just him, and her undying love.

"I love you, Dallas." Her smile stretched from ear to ear, watching as he began to lean closer once more. Eyes fluttering shut, impacted with the soft press of his lips once more. The taste of his mouth returning against her lips.

This night would live in her mind, just as the still frames held the memories of many nights passed. Only this memory will be between her and her lover, in the deepest corner of their minds. A night of passion, a night just for the two of them. Something she would cherish like a photo on the fireplace. Surrounded by the awful memories, shining ever so bright. Dallas was another reason to wake up another day.

If it meant tasting the flavors of cherry and light cigarettes against her tongue. He was all that mattered, even if the world came to a screeching end. She would cherish him, until the day she died. Perhaps that was her life long purpose, for Dallas Eric Linch to be the name on her dying lips.

Amelia would be happy of that outcome, if the day came now or later down the line. All that mattered was that he, was hers. A man worth risking everything for, even her life.
