Chereads / Satan’s Mistress / Chapter 13 - Five Senses.

Chapter 13 - Five Senses.

Placing her face in her hands, the muffled sound of Dallas speaking on the phone is faint. The rambling of her own thoughts pushed against one another.

What if this would happen again? What if it would get worse than now? Could she handle something greater, something bigger?

Palms rubbing against her face did not good to calm her nerves, pull down the feelings that threatened to emerge like vomit. Trying her hardest to keep herself together, tears were the least of her concerns now.

"Amelia," Her head slowly pulls away from her hands. Looking up at Dallas, "Your team is on their way, for now stay seated okay? I'm going to get you some tea, wait right here."

The man turns to leave her, Amelia grabs his wrist quickly. Tightly, not wanting to let go of the one thing that kept her sane. Her head pulls away to avoid his eyes, embarrassed once more at her brazen reaction.

"Dallas, do you think this is.." She sucks the air through her teeth, "Going to get worse." There's a pausing silence, before a grunt is heard.

"Amelia, look at me." She does as she's told, slowly turning her head back to face where his voice was coming from. He now was crouched in front of her, holding both of her hands firmly into his own. Purple hues glancing up at her, pleading eyes.

"What may lie ahead will be challenging, but that doesn't mean you can't rise against it." Dallas places a hand on her cheek, Amelia instantly pushing against his palm to be closer. "I will be your pair of eyes when you can not see. Whatever this is, it will be solved: You will not have to fear anymore than this."

He truly knew how to get her to calm down. She loved him deeply. She didn't have to tell him that, he knew.

Leaning forward, Anelia presses her lips against his. A soft, longing, and tender kiss. He kisses back, placing both of his hands on her cheeks. Rubbing circles against the soft edges of her skin. Lips pushed against lips only for a split moment, before they're pulled away once more.

His large hands rub against her thighs, "Let me go make you that tea before your team gets here. I'll just be a few feet, alright?" Amelia nods to his words, Dallas standing up from his spot. Disappearing from her view.

All she could stare at now was the shattered window. The curtains flowing with the light breeze of cold air. The anger had yet to set in about the broken frame: She would have to pay to get it fixed. Her only thought was as to how much force was needed to break through the strong glass. Amelia would have been able to break the glass with her entire body breaking through it. That could have not been the case however, as there was no thud of impact after the crash. It bewildered her, how could someone have so much force to simply crash a box through the window?

Amelia's head turns to her right as she hears footsteps. Dallas quickly walked over to her with a cup in his hand. Ths smoke filling the air, he places it into her hands. Amelia blows over the smoking cup, ears perking up as the sound of a knock hits on to the wooden door. Her lover quickly steps across the living room, opening the front door.

"I'm glad you all got here safely, please come in." Dallas states calmly, turning his back away from the door. Her three top agents enter through the small entrance one by one: Zackary Linch, Beth Wilson, Kaitlyn Ontario. All with gear on them, faces calm and collected even if they were called in a rush. It was how they had always presented themselves in front of her, but they had never seen her in such a state. Wrapped in a robe, tears down her face, unable to keep herself together.

She didn't like the way this situation had arisen, and now others had to see a side of her she wished to keep hidden.

"We came as soon as you called, we wouldn't play around to get here." Kay speaks, looking between the two other agents. None of them seemed to look towards Amelia. Perhaps out of respect for her position, or fear of consequences if they even spared a glance.

Dallas comes back next to Amelia, crouching next to her chair. Staring up at her, he gently grabs onto her hand. Rubbing his thumb against the top of her hand, followed by a squeeze. She watched as the others began to scour her home, passing by her and Dallas.

"Alright Amelia..One more time, please tell me what you heard." His voice is gentle, Amelia taking a sip of her tea before beginning to speak. The liquid warmed her throat, quickly being consumed by her. Amelia sighs of relief due to the beverage, leaning forward to place it on the counter.

"I was lying down in my room.. Seeing I hadn't been called out for a case. I decided to take a bath to relax." Amelia breathes in through her nose. "I had only been submerged for five minutes before I heard a crash come from the living room."

She heavily swallows, gripping tightly back onto Dallas' hand. "So, I grabbed my gun and made my way into the living room. The glass from our front windows was shattered all over the floor. In the middle of the mess, was a box; A package."

"Did you see anyone outside, a figure?" He asks, Amelia shakes her head.

"The sun was barely rising, if I had the chance to see someone I would've caught it." Amelia wished she would have seen something with the entire ordeal. Sadly, her eyes were not well adjusted to have the brisk shine of sunlight in view.

"I took the box, opened it, and..There was an eye in the newspaper. It looked bloody, as if it was done only mere hours before." The thought of someone doing this only hours before tossing it through her window, startled her. Moritied her even, as if the piece was deliberately meant to be in this position.

"Agent Linch, we found something." Both of their heads turn to the voice. Kaitlyn stood, holding a folded piece of paper in her hands. Dallas stands from his position, taking the note from the woman's hands. "What is it?" He questions, looking down at the piece of paper.

Beth clears her throat, standing next to Kaitlyn with her hands behind her back. "A note.."

Amelia glances back in Dallas' direction, his facial expression now showing anger. Huffing, eyebrows furrowed over his eyes as he began to unfold the note. "These goddamn notes, I am getting sick of seeing handwriting on paper."

Emerald hues watch as the note is flipped open. Her lover's eyes scanned its contents, facial expressions turning back to a blank canvas. Amelia leans forward, looking up at him. "What does it say?" She asks, Dallas looking back down towards her in her chair.

Dallas says nothing, only stares down at her. Eyes scanning her face, now pulling into a frown. She was desperate now to know what the note had said. Was it something tame, or perhaps a threat of large proportions. Amelia doesn't have to wonder long, as his hand extends out. The note still within his grasp, she quickly takes it from him.

Looking down at the note, her eyes brisk through the words.

"You stole from me, my five senses." Amelia reads allowed, looking back up at Dallas. Her eyebrows raise over her eyes, a shocked expression places over the once saddened glance.

The five senses of the human body? It confused her, it pained her to not understand. What did the five senses have to do with her, who did she steal such a thing from? A list could be made of all the people who believed they would get back at her. Whether it be for catching them, putting them away, or other reasons unbeknownst by her.

There would be dozens, hundreds, even thousands who believed she stole something from them.

"Amelia, I believe I know the cause of the heads of victim's disappearing." With his words, it clicked.

How could she have not seen this before? The entire situation connected to the case she now was working on. The heads disappearing and never returning, bodies of people with the same tattoos. It all connected, it was directed towards her. Towards what she was working on, who she was working with: Another target pointed at her.

She stands up, looking down at the note and then to Dallas. "They're taking out the five senses. The first one: Sight."

That truly meant, this was not the end. The eye was only the first sight. There was still 4 more to go. More innocent lives taken, all because of her existence.
