Chereads / Sweet Tooth Honey / Chapter 3 - The little things

Chapter 3 - The little things

Filling her face with creamy sweetness, the Queen swallowed another helping of the Custard.

Her stomach bulged lightly and she exhaled. "Pooh!" Grunting gleefully, the Queen cheered lightly, "Aah, that's much better."

She was staring into nothingness, like her whole body was tired. The Queen had just gone through a transformation and with her quick eating, she had filled up to the brim. "When did you get so small?"

"Small? You're the same size as me! It's you who got big. Hmmph. Well, at least now you're not so grumpy. You're sort of like me, you eve-holled. No, I'm not saying that right.. eve.. eve.. Oh well, whatever. You're here now. What's your name? I'm Honey." Honey leaned closer to the Queen grinned.

"I am the Queen." Speaking her mind, the Queen licked her fingertips.

"Of course you're a Queen, I'm not talking about that. I'm asking what's your name, what do others call you?" Honey enunciated the last part and sat down in a chair.

"They didn't call me anything else. I've always been the Queen." Feeling insecure, the Queen lifted her nose like she didn't care. Deep inside, she was a bit annoyed that she didn't have a name. "What's this stuff?" The Queen pointed to the jar of blue essence, it smelled like one of the ingredients for the Custard.

"That's Cannabis Extract! It's a special one though." Honey was about to explain but the Queen picked it up and sniffed it several times.

"Special? Fine. From now on, call me Canna." Canna walked away with the Jar of extract in her hands.

'Umm.. that's mine.' Honey wanted to stop her but she too loved sweets. The Extract was somewhat spicy on the tongue but it was made primarily from pollen and oils.

Thinking about it before she acted, Honey let Canna keep the Jar. It wouldn't have made a difference though, Canna was never going to let the Jar leave her hands. Canna dipped her finger into it and stuck her fingertip into her mouth, she intended to finish the Jar in due time.

Honey didn't know what to say but she still had a few things to do, "Canna." Feeling a bit weird with Canna's new name, Honey paused for half a second and continued, "I have some things that I have to take care of. You're safe here in the Battleship, try to relax, I'll be back after a while." Nodding while she spoke, Honey was about to leave.

"Battleship?" Canna cocked her head and spread the wings behind her, the made a humming noise when they got up to speed and she flew out onto the decking.

"Well that didn't take much convincing." Honey returned to the Cannabis field, there were thousands and thousands of dead bees littering the ground. "I wonder.." Honey took a few thousand of the dead bees and buried them next to a plant in the corner, swept the remainder into its vicinity and then put up a barrier to keep it isolated from the others.

There were not many things left her Honey to complete on the list, she had already taken care of most of the assignments. The Moonpool was an artificial pond inside of the eastern ridge. Above it, an special lens turned the artificial sunlight into artificial moonlight, allowing the Moon Melons to develop. The Area was also very moist and humid, so a myriad of plants found the Moonpool zone extremely beneficial.

Beside the edge of the Pool, Honey dipped her legs into the water.

It was cool and tranquil, the Gulany that were swimming in the waters helped keep it moving. A formation at the bottom of the artificial pond also fed it bubbles constantly. The super oxygenated water was perfect for the Melons to grow in, they bobbed in the water and when they were just large enough to ripen perfectly, the Aura around the fruit would turn a magnificent cyan.

Wading through the soft soils, Honey enjoyed the mushiness in between her toes and played around in it for a second. When the dirt clouded the water, she stopped. Kink had taken a lot of time to prepare the space, the Moonpool was no different and she had to take care to not damage her efforts.

Honey pulled a hooked blade from her storage and cut three melons that were just ripening free from the vine. The stem sank a bit into the water but there was no need to worry, more would grow in their place eventually.

In the Moonpool, more than thirty types of plants had their own section that had been isolated.

Honey wanted the other plants to ripen but they were herbs and spirit fruits that took thousands and thousands of years to develop. The hardest part of her volunteer duties, was to restrain herself. Some of the scent from the Herbs was intoxicating to the soul. As a Treant that could absorb the essence of other plants, Honey could easily gain strength and insight by their consumption.

Even cooking with them would make the end result that much greater, however, that would only be acceptable if the Herbs themselves were mature. Kink's ability to ripen plants was useful but he couldn't be bothered to inject that much energy into grade four herbs or higher. The consumption of energy to ripen them would put him to sleep for days at a time.

The result was always worth it but the Effort itself was grueling. Kink had once taken the time to help a friend, a fifty thousand year old celestial pine cone would drop it's seed but the one that his friend had was only about two thousand years old. When Kink accelerated it's growth, he passed out for almost a month.

The Garden Dimension was filled with grade four to grade seven herbs, all of which needed much more time to develop. Garden Dimension One had the best conditions, what could be done in ten years, could be done in ten months with the level of ambient energy that hung in the air.

Honey splashed to the edge of the Melon patch and grabbed a fourth. The glow was faint but it was there. With time, it would gain it's full glow, even after harvest.

Being in the water was half fun, half cold. Honey got out and dried herself magically.

The Moon image that had been drawn across the lens was entirely for aesthetics. It had no purpose, Kink had drawn it on the lens before laying the formation. He wanted to create an atmosphere that set the mood, though it was ancillary. He rarely visited the higher graded areas, which is why he had to keep a checklist and pop in from time to time.

Canna was sitting atop the edge of the Battleship looking out over the Garden. As far as she could see, there were flowers and plants, vegetables and sacred herbs, Treants and other rare species of life. She wondered why she had stuck so close to the Cannabis Fields for a moment then remembered the Box.

The Box angered her, she was unable to leave but she had everything she needed to survive, it was like a prison. A prison that she had just been released from and there were so many things to explore. When her emotions finally got the better of her, she kicked herself off the side of the Battleship and flew toward a zone filled with abundant green colored energies and auras.

The auras gave off a lot of spiritual energy, most of which was beneficial to beasts. The high levels of nature energies left Canna feeling refreshed the moment she flew into the domain. Formation lights trapped the space and kept other auras from reeking havoc within it's space.

Canna quickly found the center of the formation and stood in the middle. She still had the jar in her hands and occasionally, she'd dip her fingers inside for a taste.

The Queen's energy levels had skyrocketed since she had come into the formation and after her most recent of tastes from the blue goo, Canna felt satiated and sat down with her eyes closed.

Her body was filled to the brink with energies of varying kinds but she felt like she was in a bottleneck. If she could only push things a little further, she could relax and have a moment to breathe.

'Hoo..' Canna released all of her breath in one go and led her body to unclench. She tried her best to clear her mind. Sticking her finger into the jar one more time, she pulled out a massive glob and swallowed it.

Trails of blue light swirled around her and intermixed with the green of the domain. All around her, the space turned to the colors of the Sea and the plants surrounding Canna began to enliven. In their healthiest state, the plants produced a lot more energy that bolstered the nature domain.

Canna kept her eyes closed.

Honey saw the energy bubble from a distance, it didn't match the levels of the other formations. "Something's going on, I better go check it out."

Canna had been out of sight for a while but Honey didn't think she was the cause. The formations would sometimes strengthen when a plant underwent a change in grades. Sometimes, the change was spectacular, sometimes it was devastating for the other plants.

Once there had been a patch of Qushi Death Grass that had a single clump evolve. However, when the Qushi Grass evolved, it stole the life energies of all the plants within fifty meters. The plant would have continued to devour the energies of further plants but the Domain shield for that area had held the damages back.

Sprinting at her fastest pace, Honey finally saw the bright green domain shield active. The shield would repel energies but still allow the regular ins and outs that were required for tending each section of the Garden. Inside the domain's energy bubble, Honey saw Canna with her eyes closed.

'She's breaking through!? HOW! She just evolved...' Honey covered her mouth. She didn't want to interrupt Canna's growth or breakthrough, Titan had expressed the importance of not interrupting anyone during their advancements. The damage from interference could be catastrophic, people could even lose their lives during the processes.

Honey pulled out a small cake slice, sat down and ate it while she watched Canna going through the motions. When the cake touched her tongue, Honey's whole body shivered.
