Chapter 17 - This will not end well

"If you were in my place what would you do?" Calliope asked. Everyone could tell you what was wrong with you but no one knew how to right that wrong. Callum Facci had her all figured out but she wanted him to give her a cure for her problem.

What would she do with the diagnosis of her problem if there was no cure? She wanted to stand up and find ways to treat her condition. She too wanted a simple life. How many years old does she stay away from her family? One day William Joseph's man would hunt her. Where would she hide then?

"I?" Callum fell silent for a while. He hadn't expected such a question from her. Maybe, he would be as confused as her. He wouldn't know how to make the right choices just as she didn't know now. But his life, which was full of tragedies, taught him many lessons. And he knew he wasn't like normal people.

Among his best friends, he probably lost the most. Yet, he was the one who had his shit together. Like Villain (nickname for Santiago, his best friend), he wasn't running after revenge. He acknowledged the fact that tragedies could happen with anyone and only that person who knew how to stand up after falling could make something of his life.

Thus, his answer was not what Calliope had ever expected.

"A very wise man once said , 'Sometimes being unjust is better and easier than being just.' .He said it is perfectly alright to satisfy yourself by being unjust than to satisfy all others by being just and making yourself miserable in the process." He paused and then asked, "Do you understand what he meant?"

Calliope shook her head. She didn't understand why he was getting at. How could being evil be better than being good? This wasn't what she was taught by her father. Then again, she hadn't seen a man more wicked and evil than her own

"Being evil is better sometimes," Callum explained his point. "What would you do with your goodness if it's making you miserable? Destroying your character. Forcing you to be evil. Isn't it better to be evil and just be happy with yourself!"

"Did you do the same thing too?" Calliope asked him.

"I don't usually but when I think about another wise man who talked about doing good to all, even if it's killing you. Then, I think the former one is better," He said in a nonchalant tone. "I am a human. A selfish one. I can't let someone take and take and take until I am left hollow. I too have desires to lead a happy and peaceful life. Sometimes we have to kill a shred of goodness in ourself to achieve something great."

He didn't mind adopting evil means to achieve something good. It was better as long as he was satisfied with his life. It had nothing to do with what people think about his choices and methods.

"Callum, what if I hurt someone unknowingly in the process? What if I chose to live my life and hurt someone else?" Calliope asked him. This question always scared her. What if she hurt someone else in the process?

"Then, hurt them. There is nothing more important than ourselves. It's that person's fault why his/ her life is linked with yours. Go ahead and live. Be selfish for once."

Callum's words were selfish to hear but he knew that this woman didn't need to be good at this time. She would drown if she insisted on being good to everyone. She just needed to be good to herself and even if it meant being bad to everyone else.

"This will not end well,"Calliope whispered, looking at the sky. The rain had stopped pouring. The sun was sp

sneaking through the clouds and a beautiful rainbow was on display.

Perhaps, her life could be like this rainbow if she uses her emergency plan now. Her clan would never forgive her for using that method but it was the only thing that could ensure the survival of her and her family.

She would listen to Callum Facci this time.

"This will end well if you are ready to take the consequences of your actions," He told her.
