Summary: The Viking town of Berk, now enjoying its new alliance with the dragons, is preparing for its annual winter holiday of Snoggletog. However, that spirit is threatened when all the dragons except Toothless, who needs Hiccup to help him, and Optimus, suddenly fly away for some reason much to the sadness of everyone. Optimus disappeared one night when Emily woke up the next day. While Astrid ineffectually tries to salvage the occasion, Hiccup decides to build Toothless a new prosthetic to allow him to fly independently with Emily's help only to have the dragon take off much to Hiccup's sadness. However, as the holiday approaches, Hiccup finds himself swept up to learn the dragons' secret the hard way and to find a solution to bring them home early for the holiday for everyone to celebrate.
Hiccup: This is Berk, boasting the kind of balmy, fun-in-the-sun climate that will give you frostbite on your spleen.
Emily: The one upside is the annual holiday. They call it Snoggletog.
Hiccup: Why we chose such a stupid name remains a mystery.
Emily: But with the war long over, and dragons living among the Berkians, this year's Snoggletog promises to be one to remember.
It was dawn time on the isle of Berk as we turned towards a hill where a single house stands.
Inside his bedroom, Hiccup snuggled deeply into his warm blanket peacefully but he was rudely awakened when there was a loud thud that came from the roof and an impatient roar followed.
He eyed the roof in annoyance before pulling the blanket over his head but it seemed a certain impatient dragon wouldn't stop as he kept jumping down on the roof as it was soon followed by a muffled 'get down from there, Toothless!'.
Groaning tiredly, Hiccup sat up groggily.
"Okay, okay, I'm coming." He called out loudly yet tiredly.
He sluggishly reached for his helmet before putting it on. He headed downstairs before opening the door and heading out, closing it in the process.
He let out a tired yawn while rubbing his arm to warm up a little before looking up to see Toothless who was smiling cheekily at them.
"Well, good morning, Mr. Bossy!" Hiccup holds and causes Toothless to laugh and makes Hiccup copy it to tease him.
"Sorry about that, Hiccup. But he's just too stubborn to stop." A female voice said and Hiccup looked and saw that it was Emily.
She was wearing warmer clothes as Optimus was standing behind her as he nudged her gently.
"Well, due to his energy, I can imagine." Hiccup said with a small laugh before turning to Toothless.
"Do you always have to wake me up so early to go fly-YIIINGG?!" Hiccup yelped when his metal foot slipped on the ice.
"Hiccup!" Emily exclaimed worriedly.
Toothless manages to catch him quickly before he could fall flat on his back. Hiccup held onto Toothless' face as his dragon pal helped him back on his feet.
"Stupid leg." Hiccup grumbled as Toothless warbled in concern.
"You okay?" Emily was by his side quickly as she checked on him.
"I'm fine. Thanks to Toothless." Hiccup said with a smile as he rubbed Toothless' head.
"Oh, thanks, buddy, I'm okay. Yeah, we can go flying now." Hiccup said but not before Toothless burps in Hiccup's face.
This caused the teen to recoil in disgust while Emily quickly covered her nose.
"Oh Primus! That stinks!" Emily cried out in surprise and disgust
Toothless looked at them as if to say 'sorry and excuse me' much to their amusement.
"Ew, ew, what? Ew! Argh! Toothless." Hiccup yelped in surprise as he waved his hand in front of his face quickly before giving Toothless a sheepish smile and a laugh.
A few more minutes later, Hiccup and Emily are both suit up and are now flying over the ocean near Berk on their dragons. Both riders let out cries of joy at the feel of the adrenaline through their body. Toothless spiraled around Optimus, Smokescreen, Tailgate and Ultra Magnus as Hiccup and Emily let out joyful laughs as Optimus let Emily jump on Smokescreen who caught up to Toothless.
Yup. After the war, Hiccup and Emily became inseparable like siblings and hold a pretty strong friendship and bond with each other along with their dragons.
"Come on! Let's see what you guys got today!" Hiccup exclaimed as both dragons dive down a cliff face.
"WHOOO-HOOO!" Both Hiccup and Emily cried out in delight.
They were flying towards a rock formation and Hiccup looked like he was getting ready to perform his stunt.
"Okay, you guys ready?" Hiccup asked Toothless and Smokescreen.
"Let's do this." Emily replied as her battle mask snapped over her lower face as the two dragons grunted in affirmation.
"Easy..." Hiccup unhooked his prosthetic leg and stood on top of the saddle as Ultra Magnus, Tailgate, Optimus and Smokescreen got into position.
Hiccup jumps off the saddle and over a cliff while Toothless goes under before he lands safely back on Toothless and hooks his leg back in.
"Yes! Finally!" Hiccup exclaimed in glee before turning towards Emily.
"Let's see what Emily got." Hiccup said enthusiastically.
Emily waited for the right moment before jumping off Smokescreen and grabbed on Ultra Magnus' tail. She landed on Tailgate's back before running across his wings and jumping off as Optimus caught her perfectly as she used her staff to hook one of his spines and landed on his back.
"That was amazing!" Hiccup cheered as Emily just smiled before turning to the others and speaking a foreign language.
"You three head on back to Berk to help the village prepare for the celebration." Emily told them as they roared before heading back towards the village.
"I would never understand how you do that." Hiccup said as Emily shrugged before patting Optimus by his neck.
"What can I say? I have ways with Predabots." Emily told him with a soft smile as she wondered what the village is doing right now.
Meanwhile back at the village, everyone was all preparing for the annual holiday known as Snoggletog. Smokescreen swooped and helped some Vikings put decorations on their houses. Ultra Magnus had to help a Viking pull a cart of decorations and Tailgate helped a Viking and dragon fix up lanterns on their houses.
A female Viking was with Gobber as he was directing her where to put the decoration she had in her hand with the help of her Gronckle friend.
"Here?" She asked as she held up a shield.
"Yes, yes, nooo, nooo, no, that one a wee bit higher!" Gobber said as the female Viking made a motion for the Gronckle to go a bit higher.
"Here?" She asked again and Gobber grinned and nodded.
"There! Ah, that's the spot!" He said with a smile as the Viking smiled back.
A Viking child is dressed up as a Gronckle and roars playfully at Meatlug who roars back gently yet playfully. That caused the kid to giggle in delight and run off with Meatlug following. Fishlegs watched them happily as he was setting up some decorations.
"Attaboy, Meatlug!" He said with a smile.
Astrid was with Stormfly as they were helping decorate the tree as Astrid held up two shields.
"Are you ready, girl?" Astrid asked and Stormfly squawked and readied her spines.
Astrid threw the shields towards the tree structure and Stormfly flicked her tail and launched several of her spines that pinned the shields against the tree. Astrid smiled and walked over to Stormfly and pet her in a good job. Gobber and Stoick can be seen walking into the plaza and in a holiday cheer mood.
"Odin's beard, Gobber. Vikings spending the winter holiday with dragons. What would our fathers say?" Stoick asked cheerfully as Gobber had a pretty good idea and laughed.
"They'd think we'd lost our minds!" He said cheekily as Stoick chuckled.
He then addressed everyone on their team work as Tailgate, Smokescreen and Ultra Magnus listened with everyone.
"Well done. Well done, all of you! I never thought I'd live to see this day. Peace on the island of Berk. This will surely be the greatest holiday we've ever seen!" He said happily.
This caused everyone to cheer as every Vikings applauded with dragons roaring or squawking in agreement. But the cheerful atmosphere was soon gone when they all heard something.
"What the...?!" Stoick exclaimed in confusion.
They looked up and saw that there were hundreds of wild dragons flying off somewhere and the dragons of Berk minus the Predabots all knew what was going on.
"What in Thor's name?!" Gobber uttered in the same confusion as everyone has.
A Monstrous Nightmare then let out a roar and signaled the dragons of Berk that it was time. It causes all the dragons to start leaving and causes the village to go into panic.
"Come back! Where are you going?" Snotlout called out Hookfang.
Fishlegs was looking around for his friend and was in shock just as the faithful Gronckle was about to leave.
"Meatlug!" He ran off towards him.
The villagers all tried to ask and stop their dragons from leaving but it was no use, not even Tailgate, Smokescreen and Ultra Magnus knew what was going on. Astrid became worried as she remembered that she didn't see four faces as she remembered that Hiccup and Emily went out for a flight earlier.
"Where's Hiccup and Emily?" She asked worriedly.
Meanwhile, the two were heading back to Berk and were unaware of what was going on.
"What do you say, bud? Wanna go again?" Hiccup asked Toothless who seemed to agree.
Emily laughed softly while shaking her head before Optimus looked forward and sensed something as he roared up to Emily who looked at him before looking up to see that something was flying towards them.
"Hiccup, I think something is heading our way." She notified him.
Before they could react, a whole herd of dragons flew past them and the two dragons swerved around to avoid the dragons. Emily cried out in surprise as Optimus maneuvered out of the way.
"What in Primus' name is going on?!" Emily cried out.
"Whoa! Aaaaahhh!" Hiccup cried out in surprise.
A dragon accidentally knocked Hiccup's helmet off his head and he was shocked.
"Oh, no! My helmet!" He exclaimed as it started to fall down to the ocean.
Toothless noticed and quickly dove down to get it back and it caused Hiccup to cry out in surprise.
"Aaaaaaaahhhhhh...!" He yelled as Emily and Optimus managed to get out of the horde as Emily looked to where Hiccup is.
Hiccup held on tight as he tried to get Toothless to stop.
"Toothless! No, no, no, no! Whoa... Wait!" He exclaimed as he pulled on the saddle.
"Toothless! Stop!" Toothless looked at him before stopping above the ocean.
"We'll get it later, bud. We need to get back and find out what's going on." Hiccup told him as Toothless was looking around in the water for the helmet but it was nowhere in sight.
Toothless begrudgingly followed his words and flew up back to Berk in full speed with Optimus and Emily beside him.
"What do you think that was all about?" Hiccup asked her as Emily had a worried look.
"I don't know but something tells me we're about to find out." Emily said as the two dragons hurried back to Berk.
Back on Berk, the Vikings were trying to stop their dragons from leaving but to no avail. Astrid was shocked to see that Stormfly was about to leave and tried to stop her.
"No, no, no! Don't leave, Stormfly, don't go! Please?" Astrid pleaded but Stormfly just took off leaving a distraught teen behind.
Toothless and Optimus just landed back on Berk just as the last of the dragons left. Hiccup got off Toothless quickly and ran to Astrid to know what was going on as Emily watched the last dragon leave before following Hiccup.
"Astrid!" Hiccup called out.
Astrid turned to him and quickly went over to ask what was going on.
"Hiccup! Emily! What's going on? Where are they going?" Astrid asked worriedly.
Hiccup opened his mouth to answer but wasn't able to as the villagers started to surround him and Emily and ask what was going and the two could see that they were all worried.
"Why did they leave?"
"What's happening?"
"Will they ever come back?"
"Stop! Wait!" Hiccup tried to make them stop but they were asking too many questions.
"Everyone, please calm down!" Emily tried but they both weren't heard.
Thankfully Stoick was able to tell the villagers to stop to give the two a chance to speak.
"Calm down! Give them a chance to speak!" He ordered and they did so.
Stoick then turned to the two teens and they could see that he was worried and confused about what was going on.
"Hiccup, Emily, where are all our dragons going?" Stoick asked as Hiccup looked at Emily helplessly as she shook her head.
Hiccup sighed and looked up to his father with a helpless look.
"Dad... We don't know." Hiccup said as this caused everyone to deflate.
They turned to see that Stormfly was trying to encourage Toothless to join them but Toothless told her that he couldn't because of his tailfin. Stormfly left begrudgingly as Emily and Hiccup turned to each other and wondered why the dragons just left.
The Predabots were also confused as they watched their friends leave aside from Toothless. This just adds more questions on what was going to happen to the holiday now.
Later that night, everyone was all gathered at the Great Hall as everyone was still saddened and confused on why the dragons would just up and leave when they were about to celebrate Snoggletog together. It seemed like the holiday was ruined.
"Where'd they go?!"
"Snoggletog is ruined!"
Chatters from the adults can be heard as the teens at the back just listened in. Emily was trying to find out why the dragons would leave with Hiccup while the rest of the teens were in a gloomy mood.
Stoick quickly stepped up to try and lift their spirits up.
"It's not ruined! We're Vikings! We've been perfectly happy celebrating without dragons for generations! And there's no reason we can't do it again! Now we don't know where they've gone off to. But we have to have faith that they'll be back again soon. Am I right?" Stoick said loudly for everyone to hear.
Everyone agreed reluctantly as Gobber piped in.
"You're right, we are Vikings! We are tough!" He agreed and it caused everyone to look at him.
They turned to him and saw that he has the shiny bells and baubles attached to his arm and helmet for the holiday.
"Most of the time..." He added.
Snotlout just shook his head before he motioned for them all to leave and left the Great Hall to leave the adults and we're all feeling sad and down.
"That was depressing..." Ruffnut said sadly.
Astrid had to agree with her. She was really hoping to spend the holiday with Stormfly.
"I know! I was looking forward to spending the holiday with Stormfly." Astrid said sadly.
Tuffnut heard whistling and turned to see Fishlegs whistling a happy tune and was a little suspicious.
"What are you so happy about? Don't you miss Meatlug?" Tuffnut asked and Fishlegs froze like a toddler caught taking a cookie from a cookie jar.
"Me? Oh! Yeah! I miss him so much!" Fishlegs said and started to cry crocodile tears.
He then noticed that the others were giving him suspicious looks especially Emily who was looking at him more before he excused him.
"Well, good night!" Fishlegs said and went off in a hurry.
The others just watched him leave as Emily shook her.
"Something tells me he's hiding something." She muttered Hiccup who nodded.
Astrid then had a lightbulb and quickly got in front of the gang to tell it.
"I've got an idea! Let's come up with a bunch of new holiday traditions! You know, to bury the sadness!" She said and this caused the Thorston twins and Snotlout to groan in annoyance.
Astrid pouted and looked to both Emily and Hiccup for their support.
"Actually, Astrid might be on to something." Hiccup agreed with her as Tuffnut raised an eyebrow.
"Easy for you to say. Your dragon can't go anywhere without you." Tuffnut said as they turned to where Toothless is as the Night Fury was looking over the edge of the cliff.
"Must be nice." Ruffnut said before she and the others left for home and left the two teens alone while looking at Toothless.
Hiccup let out a sigh as Emily looked towards him.
"Hey, cheer up. Don't think what Tuffnut said, Hic. Just try and enjoy the days before Snoggletog. Who knows. The rest of the dragons might come back." Emily said as Hiccup looked at her.
"How are you so sure? You said you miss your other friends and have been looking for them." Hiccup said as Emily just sighs and look to the moon.
"Yeah, I do miss them. But I know that they want us to celebrate it without them beside us." She said before she chuckled and ruffled his hair and caused the teen to laugh softly.
"Anyway, I gotta go home now. I'll see you in the morning." She said before she headed to where her house is.
Hiccup watches her leave before heading home as well. Emily arrived home as the four Predabots were settling in for the night. Emily went over to them and rubs their heads a good night. Even Ultra Magnus had to purr when Emily pets his head. She reached Optimus who was probably asleep. She smiled and kissed the top of his head as he purred sleepily.
"Good night, guys." She whispered before she entered the house and went to sleep.
Optimus made sure that she was sleeping deeply before waking up and quietly getting up. He made sure to be away from the house before taking off silently into the night. He gave the house one last look before disappearing off somewhere.
Toothless was still awake and saw him and wondered where he was going before he heard Hiccup calling him and went inside for dinner.
The next day, Emily woke up early at the crack of dawn as she rubbed her eyes as she went out of the house. She breathed in the cold air of winter before turning to the Predabots who were sleeping soundly.
Her eyes widened when she saw that Optimus' stable was empty and went towards it. She then panicked and looked around for him but didn't find him anywhere. She only saw a pair of dragon footprints on the snow before it stopped indicating that he flew off.
"Oh, Optimus... Where are you...?" She whispered as she looked to the sky sadly.
The very same day and everything was pretty much dull and less cheerful. The children were all feeling sad and miss their dragon friends so much.
Some kids made a snow Gronckle and they huddled close to it sadly before they heard Astrid shouting.
"Yaknog! Get your Yaknog! Come on! Get a frothy delicious cup of cheer!" Astrid shouted as the kids turned to her curiously.
Astrid then saw her friends and went up to them to show off what she made.
"Hey, you guys! Try this tasty new beverage I made for the holidays." She offered for them to try.
"Ugh! What's that smell? Is that you?" Tuffnut asked as he recoiled before shoving Ruffnut away from him.
"It's Yaknog!" Astrid said cheerfully before she poured some in a mug and caused Tuffnut to gag. Who would drink that?!
"Ugh! If I drink that, I'm gonna yak nog all over the place!" Tuffnut said in disgust and that made Astrid a bit mad.
"Maybe you'd rather taste a punch in the face?" Astrid said in a threatening way while Ruffnut sniffed the beverage and recoiled in disgust.
Snotlout rolled his eyes and approached Astrid and took one mug to try it. What's the worst that could happen from drinking it?
"Astrid, it sounds delightful. I'd love a mug." Snotlout said before he drank it only to regret it.
His eyes widened at the taste and was forced to swallow a mouthful. He put the mug back and had to stop himself from puking since it tasted so terrible.
"You could really taste the yak!" He said with a grimace.
Fishlegs arrived on time and was curious what Astrid had.
"Mmm, yum! What is that?" He asked curiously.
"Oh! You wanna try some? It's my new traditional drink." Astrid lights up and offers him a mug.
Fishlegs was about to accept when he noticed Snotlout standing behind Astrid and was shaking his head, silently telling him not to drink it. Getting the hint, Fishlegs declined the offer since it might not be so good.
"Oh... You know... Ehm... I have... suddenly inexplicably changed my mind." Fishlegs said sheepishly with a nervous grin which made Astrid feel a little down.
She then lightens up since there's two more teens that need to try it out before heading off to find it and hope that they would love it.
"Well, you don't know what you're missing. I bet Hiccup and Emily will love this." Astrid said before running off to find them.
Ruffnut notices Snotlout was clutching his stomach in discomfort.
"Are you crying?" She asked and Snotlout looked like he was about to throw up.
At the forge, Astrid arrived and called out to Hiccup and Emily to see if they're present.
"Hiccup? Emily?" Astrid called out.
Hiccup peeked his head out as he got some tools ready.
"Yeah, I'm over here, Astrid. Coming!" Hiccup called out to her as he came out.
Astrid lightened up as she gave him a mug which he reluctantly accepted.
"Here. Happy holidays, from me to you." Astrid said cheerfully as he smiled a little.
"Thanks." He said and was about to drink it when Astrid noticed the tailfin on the table.
"What are you up to?" She asked curiously as Hiccup explained.
"Okay, you're gonna think I'm crazy, but I just couldn't stop thinking about what Tuffnut said last night. Toothless can't come and go like the other dragons, and that's just not fair." Hiccup explained as he showed her the new tailfin.
'I was up all night and I think I found a way to fix that." He said as he pulled the lever of the tail which caused it to open.
Astrid was amazed by that as Hiccup took a sip of the Yaknog only to realize how horrible it tasted and was unable to swallow it. He had to hold it in just so not to make Astrid mad.
"No way! You built him a new tail? So he's gonna be able to fly without you!" Astrid said in amazement as Hiccup just nodded with his mouth full of Yaknog.
"Wow, what a great gift!" Astrid said as Hiccup just nodded before glancing at the mug and setting it aside.
"What if he never comes back?" Astrid suddenly asked which caused him to tense a little.
"What am I saying? Of course he will!" Astrid shook her head to stay positive as Hiccup nodded in agreement while praying that she would hurry up and leave.
"Well, I'm going to spread some more holiday cheer! You're amazing! Oh and tell Emily to find me so she could try this too!" She said and ran off to offer others Yaknog.
Making sure that Astrid was far away and out of sight, Hiccup spat out the Yaknog on the floor and shuddered in disgust at the taste.
"Hiccup?" Hiccup turned and saw that it was Emily as she looked at the floor questioningly.
"Don't try Astrid's Yaknog. Trust me." He said as she just nodded but Hiccup sensed that something was wrong as he went towards her with the tailfin in his arms.
"Hey. Are you okay?" Hiccup asked in concern as Emily shook her head.
"Optimus was gone when I woke up this morning and I don't know where he went. I had Smokescreen, Tailgate and Ultra Magnus look for him but they couldn't find him... I'm starting to get worried..." Emily said with a worried look.
Hiccup looked at her sympathetically and puts a hand on her shoulder.
"Don't worry. Once I put the new tailfin on Toothless, we'll go and look for him." He said which made her smile a little as they both made their way to Hiccup's house.
"So I noticed Astrid was giving others something called Yaknog. But the teens just told me not to try it." She said as Hiccup laughed sheepishly.
"Just don't tell her that it tastes terrible. I rather not trust Astrid with the cooking." He said as Emily shook her head a little.
When they got there, they saw Toothless was banging on the roof again, thinking that Hiccup was sleeping in again.
"Stubborn Night Fury." Emily chuckled softly as Hiccup roller his eyes.
"You have no idea." He said before he called out Toothless.
"Toothless! Come on down, bud! I got something for ya!" Hiccup called him.
Toothless saw the two and quickly came down. He nudged Emily's hand before going to Hiccup and sniffed the new tailfin and gave a confused warble.
"What do you think of that? Yeah!" Hiccup asked with a hopeful smile.
Hiccup approaches his tail but Toothless playfully turns away from him as Hiccup laugh at him.
"Would you just settle down! Toothless! Come on, bud! Let me get that on you!" Hiccup told him as Emily shook her head.
"Toothless, sit." She said firmly and he did so while Hiccup started to attach the tailfin to his tail.
"Yeah! You are going to love this. Okay." Hiccup said and finished strapping it on.
Toothless didn't seem to like it and started to thrash around to get it off his tail as Hiccup tried to stop him.
"No, no, no... To-Toothless! Stop! Please, wait! Toothless, please!" Hiccup pleaded before Toothless was able to open it at the same time with his natural fin.
It made him freeze in shock and surprise as Toothless tested it a few times as Hiccup didn't notice that his eyes went into slits slightly.
"Ah... Here you go. See? Got it?" Hiccup said with a smile.
His smile eventually disappeared when he saw that his eyes were slitted and became concerned.
"Toothless... Whoa!" Hiccup tried to approach him but without warning Toothless took off.
Hiccup yelped when Toothless suddenly took off and could only watch helplessly as he flew farther away from Berk. Hiccup felt tears sting his eyes as he tried to stop it.
Emily sensed it quickly and came to his side as Hiccup hugged her for comfort. Emily just embraced him to calm him down but even she was shocked by what happened and wondered what was going on with Optimus and Toothless.
Three days had passed and Hiccup was laying on his bed and wide awake as he was still worried about Toothless. Emily tried to cheer him up but even she and the Predabots weren't able to cheer him up. He let out a small sigh and turned on his side and tried to sleep a little. His ears heard something and he slowly sat up. He heard the banging again and brightened up quickly. Toothless must've been back by now!
"Toothless!" Hiccup cried excitedly as he got out of bed and ran down the stairs and out of the house.
"I knew you'd come back... Urgh!" Hiccup started only to slip and fell back on the ice with a small grunt of pain.
He sat up and saw that his dad was fixing the roof. Stoick turned and saw Hiccup and smiled down at him.
"Morning, son!" He greeted while Hiccup just sigh dejectedly.
"Oh, hey, Dad..." He greeted as he stood up slowly as Stoick came down using the ladder.
"Glad you're up! I was looking for your helmet." He said as he approached Hiccup.
The teen tensed and almost forgot about it. Emily came landing from her morning patrol with Smokescreen as she got down and walked towards the two.
"My-My helmet?" He said nervously.
"Morning, chief. Hiccup." She greeted the two and Stoick nodded a greeting to her as he returned his attention to Hiccup.
"Odin needs a place to put your goodies." Stoick said as Hiccup rubbed his neck and glanced at Emily for help who shrugged.
"Yeah, right... I-I'll get on that. Great..." Hiccup said and started to head back to the house with a small sigh.
Sensing that something was wrong, Stoick walked towards Hiccup and stopped to see what was wrong.
"Hold on! Hold on. Alright... Come on. What's on your mind? Out with it." Stoick said as he looked at his son who looked up to him with his emerald green eyes a little dim.
Hiccup sigh and looks to Emily who had the same expression as Ultra Magnus left to join the other Predabots with a daily routine around the island.
"Well, it's been three days, Dad. I just thought Toothless would be back by now." Hiccup said as Emily stood beside him.
"Are you alright, lass?" Stoick couldn't help but notice the same expression his son and Emily had.
"It's the same as Hiccup, chief. Optimus just disappeared one night and I'm getting worried. It's been three days since he was last seen." Emily said sadly.
"I'm sure he and Optimus are with the other dragons." Stoick reassured them to keep their spirits up.
"Yeah? I hope we can be that sure." Emily said as Stoick put his hands on their shoulders.
"Ah, listen... I know what it's like to miss someone you love this time of year. But what do we do, when they can't be here for the holiday? We celebrate them! And I imagine that is exactly what Toothless and Optimus would want both of you to do. Right?" He said as Hiccup and Emily looked at him.
He has a point there.
"You're right." Hiccup said as Stoick chuckled and messed up Hiccup's hair.
"Good! Then go get that helmet! We've had enough disappointment around here." Stoick said before he left for his chiefly duties as Hiccup pouted while fixing his hair.
"You're gonna go to the ocean and find your helmet, aren't you?" Emily asked as Hiccup just nodded.
"Pretty much and I need you to cover for me." He said as he and Emily went off to get ready.
It's going to be a long day and hopefully they can find something.
Later at the village, Hiccup and Emily went on their way as Hiccup was carrying oars while Emily was double checking the bag that she has until both of them almost bumped into Fishlegs who was carrying a large basket of fish and froze when he saw them.
"Oh, Fishlegs, you hungry? There's enough fish there to feed a dragon!" Hiccup asked jokingly.
That caused Fishlegs to laugh nervously.
"Hahaha... Oh, a dragon? That's..." He said before running off in mid-sentence and into a barn carrying the fish basket.
Hiccup and Emily looked at each other before following Fishlegs quietly.
"What do you think he's up to?" Hiccup whispered curiously as they hid when Fishlegs entered his house.
"No idea but I'm having a hunch that he's hiding something that he doesn't want us to know." Emily whispered and they stopped talking as Fishlegs came out.
The teen seemed giddy as he walked away. Hiccup and Emily looked at each other before coming out of their hiding spot. Hiccup put the oars against the wall while Emily made sure to keep an eye on Fishlegs. Hiccup grabbed hold of the handles on the doors and opened it.
What was inside surprised him as Meatlug broke the chain around his leg and made a beeline for the exit.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" Hiccup let out a scream as Meatlug bumped into him as he was soon carried off.
"What the?! Meatlug?!" Emily exclaimed in shock when she recognized the Gronckle which was now carrying Hiccup away.
Hiccup grunted and lifted himself against the dragon only to realize who it was in shock.
"MEATLUG?!" Hiccup exclaimed in shock and confusion.
Meatlug looked at him in surprise but didn't have time as they flew over Astrid who saw the incoming dragon and ducked down quickly. She got up and saw that Hiccup was riding him.
"Hiccup? Where are you going?!" Astrid yelled after him.
"I HAVE NO IDEA!" Hiccup yelled back as Astrid and Emily watched in disbelief as Hiccup disappeared with Meatlug.
"Meatlug? What about presents?! Hey!" Fishlegs called out to his dragon.
Emily turned to him as her face spelled angry and calm and it made him squeak in fear.
"Fishlegs. Explain." She said as the teen gulped.
Back in the barn, the rest of the teens gathered after Emily told Astrid to gather everyone.
"I can't believe him." Fishlegs whined as Emily sighs while Astrid gave him an annoyed look. He has been hiding Meatlug this whole time?!
"YOU can't believe HIM?! YOU KIDNAPPED YOUR DRAGON!" Astrid yelled at him furiously.
"Well, that makes it sound so mean." Fishlegs muttered.
"Chaining your dragon is also a bad thing, Fishlegs. What in Primus' name were you thinking?!" Emily was equally annoyed with Fishlegs for keeping this.
The Thorston twins noticed something in the pile of hay as Astrid and Fishlegs kept on arguing. The twins pushed some hay away and were rendered speechless by what they were seeing. Emily shook her head at Fishlegs before noticing the twins and went to them to see what was going on and was also speechless.
"Hey, guys?" Tuffnut called the others but they didn't hear him.
"He flew away the second he was unleashed!" Astrid continues to shout at Fishlegs.
"I'm 72% sure he wanted to stay-" Fishlegs said until Emily groaned silently.
"For the love of the Thirteen. GUYS!" Emily yelled in irritation
This caused both Astrid and Fishlegs to stop arguing as the two came over to where they were with Snotlout and finally noticed the objects on the hay.
"Whoa... Meatlug barfed up a pile of rocks." Fishlegs said as Ruffnut looked at him as if he was stupid.
"You're such an idiot! Those aren't rocks, your dragon laid eggs!" Ruffnut corrected him while putting her hands on her hips.
Astrid picked one up and finally figured out why their dragons left all of a sudden the other day.
"Hey, wait! I bet that's why the dragons left: To lay their eggs!" Astrid said in realization as Emily looked at the eggs curiously.
"But, boy dragons don't lay eggs." Fishlegs said as he was confused. Boy dragons don't lay eggs right?
"Yeah, your boy dragon is a girl dragon." Ruffnut said as Emily agreed with her.
"She's right. Meatlug has been acting strange last month and that includes that Meatlug is a female. Not a male." Emily deduced as she and Ruffnut fist bump.
"Okay, that actually explains a few things." Fishlegs said in surprise with his eyes wide.
Astrid suddenly had a crazy idea and went to a shelf.
"Hey! Everyone's missing their dragons, right?" She asked as she started to wrap the egg up.
"Oh, here it comes." Snotlout groaned.
"I've got an idea! It'll be another new Snoggletog tradition!" Astrid said as she tied a ribbon around the eggs.
She gave each of the teens eggs while Emily refused to help with the craziness as they left and went around the island to put the eggs in separate houses.
"Oh, this is gonna be so good!" Astrid said giddily.
Emily just watched them leave and shook her head as she then turned back to the pile of hay and had a pretty bad feeling about why the dragons left. She just hoped that feeling would be right as she left to check on the Predabots while wondering where do the dragons go.
Meanwhile, Hiccup was able to climbed on Meatlug's back and was now riding her as the Gronckle seemed to know where she was flying to.
"Whoa! Meatlug, where are you taking me?" Hiccup yelped as Meatlug avoided a sea stack.
He didn't get an answer, only to cry out in surprise and yanked on her ears when they almost hit a dragon figurehead of a ship. They were now flying above the clouds and Hiccup noticed the clouds parting ways. And right down below them was an island in the shape of a crescent moon but most of all the dragons. Hiccup breathed in awe as Meatlug started to fly down towards the island.
Meatlug finally landed and Hiccup carefully got down from her back as she went off somewhere while Hiccup was able to get a good look of the place. The island had a lot of hot springs and a lot of dragons. He had to blink a few times when he saw smaller ones and realized that they were baby dragons.
"You guys come here to have babies!" Hiccup said in realization. Now he knows why the dragons left.
Hiccup watched a mother Nadder feed her hatchlings and he couldn't help but smile at the sight. He then notices a mother Gronckle nudging some rocks towards a pool of water. He grew curious about that and slid down the hill he was on but stopped when he saw two hatchlings playing and running past him. He couldn't help but smile more at the little dragons' antics and came to the mother Gronckle who dropped the eggs into the pool.
He peered down into the water and watched as the eggs hatched and three cute baby Gronckles swam up to the surface.
"Aww. Wow!" Hiccup couldn't help but coo in adoration as the three little hatchlings came up to their mother who nuzzled them.
He then noticed a lone egg sitting nearby and went towards it not noticing as some grown ups quickly took cover.
"Hey, look over here, you missed one." He said and was about to pick it up only for it to explode.
"WHOA!" He cried out in shock and surprise while he was sent flying.
He landed on his back and quickly sat up with his eyes wide as a baby Gronckle landed on the ground and was unharmed. The baby yawned and stretched before going to its mother.
"Man, it's a good thing those don't hatch on Berk!" Hiccup realized in shock at what would happen if the eggs hatched on Berk.
His eyes grew even more wide when he realized that Meatlug was the last dragon to leave and that she must've laid eggs back home. Oh Thor... His dad is gonna kill him if anyone finds those eggs.
Meanwhile, Astrid placed the last egg in a house and not noticing it heating up as she came up to the others.
"Wasn't this a great idea?" Astrid asked them excitedly as Fishlegs nodded.
"Uh-huh! Everyone's gonna be so surprised!" Fishlegs said as Emily shook her head as Smokescreen, Tailgate and Ultra Magnus were with her when the other teens finished putting the eggs in different locations.
"Guys, I really think this is a bad idea. It could blow up in our faces." Emily said only for the house Astrid just came out to explode much to their shock and surprise.
Something hard hit Fishlegs on the face and sent him falling down.
"Ow!" He winced.
"SURPRISE!" Snotlout snickered as something then landed on Fishlegs' stomach.
They gathered around as it uncurled itself to reveal a baby dragon. They were taken by surprise by this as Ruffnut, Tuffnut and Snotlout coo at the baby Gronckle as it looked at them curiously while Astrid tried to process what just happened while Emily and the Predabots immediately realized what happened.
"The eggs... Explode?" Astrid questioned in horror and shock.
"If this little guy comes out from one egg that exploded..." Emily's eyes widened in shock and horror.
Another house exploded and more and more followed.
"THE EGGS EXPLODE!" Astrid screamed in realization.
"I knew I had a bad feeling about this..." Emily facepalm as the Predabots just watched the destruction occur around them.
"Wheeljack will have a field day if he was here." Emily muttered as Vikings ran out of their houses in a panic at what was happening.
"I'm sorry! Sorry!" Astrid apologized as she winced at every explosion.
Emily shook her head as she and the Predabots quickly went and gathered the hatchlings as the teens were watching the destruction all around them.
"Awesome!" Ruffnut said in awe.
"Wow!" Tuffnut agreed with her.
"This is your best idea yet!" Snotlout said with a smirk towards Astrid who was just horrified at what was happening.
By now, everyone was gathered around the plaza and Stoick saw the wooden tree on fire as he was confused and shocked at what was going on. He was at his house doing something when he heard the commotion and saw the village in utter chaos. He turned to the four teens and wanted to know who did this and what happened.
"What in Thor's name is going on?!" He asked as Emily came back with baby Gronckles in her arms with the other hatchlings riding Ultra Magnus, Tailgate and Smokescreen.
"She thought it was a great idea, chief." She deadpanned while pointing to a guilty Astrid.
"The eggs explode." She said simply before a final house exploded not far away.
Astrid just smiled nervously at the stern look the chief was giving her. She is in so much trouble.
Meanwhile back on the island, Hiccup was calling out both Toothless and Optimus to see if the two were present.
"Toothless! Optimus? Ah, Toothless, Optimus, where are the two of you?" Hiccup said as he was starting to get worried.
He climbed up the hill and upon reaching the top, he quickly recognized some dragons there while three of them were weirdly colored. He brightened up when he saw Hookfang.
"Hookfang!" Hiccup said happily as Hookfang nuzzled his head into Hiccup's hands.
"Stormfly!" Hiccup went to her next, who was delighted to see him.
"Oh, you have no idea how happy I am to see you guys!" Hiccup said as he rubbed her head as Stormfly nuzzled him happily.
He looked down and finally saw the baby Nadders.
"And you have... babies? Oh, look at you guys!" Hiccup crouched down and let the babies approach him.
The babies took an instant liking to Hiccup especially when he gave them scratches.
"All happy, together. Who knew you were leaving to celebrate your own sort of... holiday." Hiccup said before he figured that maybe it was time for him to return.
He stood up and looked at the setting sun.
"I should get back to my holiday." He said before he was approached by the blue and pink Nadder.
He looked at the Nadder and noticed that it's eyes were like the Predabots back home.
"You're one of the Predabots aren't you?" He asked as he reached his hand out to her and the Nadder took a cautious sniff before putting her snout to his hand.
He smiled and touched her scales before looking her in the eyes.
"So what do you say there, girl? Think, you could give me a ride back home?" He asked her.
She nodded and kneels down as Hiccup got on her back and she took to the skies with the two Predabots as he looked down to the other dragons.
"I'll see you all back on Berk when you're good and ready, okay, gang?" Hiccup said but was a little surprised when Stormfly suddenly took flight and everyone started to follow.
"Oh... No, no, no, no, no... I think I just started the return migration." Hiccup said with a deadpan tone
The baby dragons all looked at their parents and called out to them and started to follow them.
"Well, if you insist!" Hiccup said as he was unsure if the babies were ready to fly.
"Come on! Come on!" Hiccup watched anxiously as some babies took to the air and tried to fly up to their parents but their wings weren't strong enough yet and were blown back to the island.
"Ah, boy, this is never gonna work." Hiccup muttered as he watched the babies cry out for their parents.
He bit his lower lip as he tried to come up with an idea before he remembered something on the way.
"Oh, hold on, I've got just the thing." He said before he motioned for the Nadder to head in a certain direction with the Grapple Grounder and the Gronckle.
Back on Berk, the houses were being repaired as Emily was able to make sure the baby dragons were at a safe area before she helped with the clean up.
"Ah, Gobber, this is a disaster." Stoick said as he looked at Astrid who was fixing a roof.
"Ah, it's not so bad." Gobber said as Stoick gave him a look.
"Oh, not that bad? The village is destroyed. The dragons have gone and left us. Let's face it, this holiday is a complete disa-" Stoick said before he noticed the crowd gathering and were all looking to the sky.
"What are these people looking at?" He asked as he pushed himself to the front.
They all look up to see something flying towards them with something. Emily and the rest of the Predabots saw that too.
"What is that?" Stoick asked in confusion.
Emily noticed that it was carrying something and on the back of a Nadder, she recognized the brunette teen.
"It's Hiccup!" Emily said in realization with Astrid recognizing the flying creatures.
"And our dragons!" Astrid cried out in joy.
At this realization, everyone started to cheer in joy that their dragons are back. The dragons carefully set the bot down as it skidded to a stop in front of the villagers. The kids of the village were curious with everyone before they saw something coming out of it. They were all shocked to find baby dragons coming out of the boat while looking around curiously. The grown dragons quickly went to their riders with the babies following as everyone was being reunited.
"Yeah! Whoo-hoo!" Snotlout was happy to have Hookfang back as he hugged his head as the dragon purred happily.
Meatlug quickly spotted her hatchlings who all woke up and quickly recognized their mother. She landed and regurgitated some fish for them to eat.
"MEATLUG!" Fishlegs cried out in joy and tackled her into a hug.
Astrid approached Stormfly quickly in joy and hugged her head.
"Stormfly! You're back! Oh! And there are babies!" Astrid said happily and saw the babies and quickly adored them.
"Arcee! Bulkhead! Bumblebee!" Emily quickly recognized the three dragons who were looking a little lost.
Upon hearing her voice, the three Predabots went to her quickly and nuzzled her and nudged in relief with the three other Predabots as she laughed in delight at having the other members back. Hiccup smiled happily at the sight before he was engulfed in a bear hug by his dad.
"Hahaha! Well done, son!" Stoick said as Hiccup tried to breathe.
"Thanks, Dad!" Hiccup gasped out before he was let go.
"Everyone! Grab your dragons! To the Great Hall! We finally have something to celebrate!" Stoick announced and they couldn't be even more happier to hear that.
"Hiccup!" Emily quickly hugged him which he returned with a small laugh.
"How did you find the dragons and the three Predabots?" She asked as they went to the Great Hall with the others.
"They were on an island where the other dragons are and with the babies. Now we know where the dragons would go every Snoggletog too." Hiccup explained as she smiled at him.
"Thanks for finding them." She thanked as he smiled back.
"You're welcome."
At the Great Hall, Vikings and Dragons along with the hatchlings were all enjoying themselves. Hiccup and Emily were walking around while watching everyone being reunited with their dragons. Both of them should be happy for everyone but they were a bit sad to see that two of their dragons weren't around.
Astrid notices them and their expressions and couldn't help but feel sorry for them. She approaches the two as they look at her.
"Hiccup, Emily, I know this must be really hard for you seeing everyone with their dragons. But, Hiccup, you really did a wonderful thing. Thank you." Astrid said before she embraced the two to comfort them.
The two were a little surprised by this but hugged back. Though the hug helped, they couldn't stop the sadness in their hearts that they may have missed Snoggletog without their friends.
"Astrid, where did Toothless and Optimus go?" Hiccup asked her sadly and Astrid sighed softly.
"I don't know." She muttered.
They pulled back before Astrid noticed the door to the Great Hall opened and saw Toothless coming in with Optimus. The two dragons were looking around before they spotted their riders and went towards them. Both Emily and Hiccup have no idea what's going on before she has an idea.
"Wow, man, I wouldn't wanna be you right now! I mean you brought back everyone's dragon except both of yours!" Astrid said and Hiccup gave her an annoyed look with Emily.
"Yeah, you know, this is not helping, at all." Hiccup said in annoyance.
"Really not helping, Astrid." Emily said before Astrid giddily turned the two around as they almost stumbled forward.
The two were about to ask her why she did that before they saw the two dragons they were worried for as Toothless was running towards Hiccup.
"TOOTHLESS! Hey, bud!" Hiccup cried out in joy and delight.
Emily was frozen but she broke out of her dazed and ran to Optimus and hugged him by his head while tears fell from her eyes in relief as he nuzzled her gently to comfort her. Hiccup hugging Toothless in joy to have him back and Toothless just nuzzled his head. Everyone watched the reunion in joy. Gobber nudged Stoick as he pointed to the two teens. Hiccup then remembered something and pulled away to scold his dragon.
"Bad dragon! Very bad dragon! You scared me to death. Don't ever stay away that long again, and what is in your mouth?" Hiccup scolded him before he noticed something in his dragon's mouth.
Toothless then put his mouth over Hiccup's as his dragon saliva was splashed down at him and caused Snotlout, Astrid, Fishlegs, Tuffnut and Ruffnut groan in disgust and amusement as Emily giggled at that. Toothless lifted his head as Hiccup tried to wipe the saliva from his eyes.
"Yeah, you found my helmet." He said before he froze as he touched what was on his head.
"What-hey! You found my helmet!" Hiccup said in surprise
That's where you've been? Buddy, thank you!" Hiccup asked as Toothless nuzzled his hands with his head with a warble.
"You are amazing!" He said before hugging Toothless again.
"Happy Snoggletog!" Astrid cheered with everyone.
Emily smiled at them before Optimus nudged her as she looked at him.
"What?" She asked curiously.
He lowered his head and she noticed that there was a box on his frills. She took it in her hands as she marveled at the craftsmanship of the box. She looked at Optimus in confusion and motioned for her to open it.
"Hey, what's that, Emily?" Hiccup asked as he and Toothless approached.
"I don't know." She said before she opened the box.
She gasped in shock and awe while Hiccup's eyes widened at what was inside. In the box was a beautiful sapphire pendant. It may look simple but the sapphire gem on the center is rare. She held in her hands in awe as she looked at Optimus who nuzzled her head.
"Nice necklace." Hiccup commented with a smile.
"I love it. Thank you, Optimus." She smiled softly and nuzzled him back.
She put it on and smiled at it. She would cherish it forever. This Snoggletog was something to remember forever.
After a crazy party last night at the Great Hall, the next morning was a brand new day and Toothless was back on banging on the roof again.
Hiccup wasn't annoyed this time and he welcomed the antics of his dragon. He sat up and yawned while rubbing his eyes and looking at the roof.
He went downstairs and was careful not to wake his dad up before opening the door. He stepped out and closed it behind him before he gazed out to the village. Toothless' impatient roars can be heard as well as laughter from a certain blonde.
"I'm coming, Toothless!" He called out to him as he walked to the side of the house and saw Emily standing there and was taken by surprise by her new look.
"Whoa. New clothes?" He asked as she nodded.
"Yup. I made them out of shedded dragon scales." She said as Hiccup shook his head in amusement before turning to Toothless.
"Alright, bud, come on down. I was just-" Hiccup started but paused when he saw that Toothless has their old flying gear.
"Toothless, what'd you pull this out for? You don't need this anymore. Come on, let's get going." Hiccup said as he pushed the saddle aside and tried to get on him but Toothless moved away from him which confused Hiccup.
"Would you quit fooling around? You have your new tail now." Hiccup told him but Toothless won't let him on his back as he looks at the saddle and Hiccup.
"Toothless?" He questioned in confusion.
"Hiccup, I think he's trying to tell you something." Emily said as Optimus watched.
Toothless look at him before lifting his tail to see the new tailfin. He appreciated the gift but it wasn't what he wanted and needed. During his search for his rider's helmet, he felt incomplete with Hiccup. It wasn't the same without his beloved rider. Toothless then looked at Hiccup again before he started to destroy it much to Hiccup's shock.
"Toothless! Stop! What are you doing?" Hiccup tried to stop him but the tail was already destroyed as Toothless pulled up the old gear again.
Toothless gave Hiccup a sad and pleading look and nudged the gear with his paw. Hiccup finally realizes that Toothless only needs him to help him fly again cause that's where they truly are one.
"Toothless appreciated the gift you made for him but it's not the same as flying without you, Hiccup." Emily said as Hiccup looked at the two and started to smile.
He quickly changed into his flying gear and the four of them took to the skies.
Hiccup: Winter in Berk lasts most of the year. It hangs on with both hands and won't let go.
Emily: And the only real comforts against the cold are those you keep close to your heart.
The four of them were enjoying the flight as Hiccup and Toothless prepared to do a stunt with Emily and Optimus.
"Okay, guys, are you ready?" Hiccup asked as Toothless nodded.
"Let's do this!" Emily said before she jumped off Optimus' back and was in free fall.
Hiccup smiled and unhooks himself from the saddle and somersault off Toothless' back and they followed Emily down with Optimus flying down after them. They were having the time of their lives as they enjoyed and savored the feeling of the wind rushing past them.
Hiccup: Turns out, that was the best Snoggletog ever. That year, I gave my best friend a pretty great gift.
Emily: It's gonna be the most unforgettable holiday of the year. Discovering where the dragons went and reuniting with friends. But nothing can replace the gift that two of our best friends have given to me and Hiccup.
They quickly got back on their dragons' backs and Hiccup whooped while Emily cheered. They swooped up above the treeline.
Both: They gave us a better one.
Both Emily and Hiccup looked at each other with a smile. There's nothing that could replace the gift of their two dragons and it can never be replaced by presents: Their friendship.
"GIFT OF THE PREDACON"
