Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: The Night Fury

The villagers, Hiccup, Emily and Stoick all just watch the dragons fly back to the nest with half of the village livestock before everyone's stares were all directed to Hiccup, who was tense and was looking around and noticing them. He glanced at Emily and to his father before pointing to the woodland area.

"Okay, but I hit a Night Fury." Hiccup quickly said while trying to hide behind Emily to save him the shame.

Fed up with his son's antics and the constant disaster adding to the list, Stoick grabs Hiccup by the back of his shirt and drags him towards the house. Emily tried to follow but was stopped by Gobber who shook his head as she watched her friend get dragged by his dad as he tried to explain and reason with him but she could clearly see that he was fuming in embarrassment and annoyance.

"It's not like the last few times, Dad! I mean, I really actually hit it! You guys were busy and I had a very clear shot. It went down, just off Raven Point. Let's get a search party out there, before it could-" Hiccup tried to explain before Stoick had enough.

"STOP!" Stoick shouted loudly and this made Hiccup to shut up quickly as Emily winced at the sheer volume of Stoick's voice. Talk about a boom box and Miko wasn't that loud.

"Just... stop. Every time you step outside, disaster follows. Can you not see that I have bigger problems? Winter's almost here and I have an entire village to feed!" Stoick exclaimed as Hiccup looked around meekly to think of a way out of the conversation.

"Between you and me, the village could do with a little less feeding, don't ya think?" Hiccup tried to let out a small joke as a few self-conscious vikings at the back rubbed their stomachs as if to say 'are you calling us fat?' as Emily coughs behind her fist.

"This isn't a joke, Hiccup! Why can't you follow the simplest orders?" Stoick said as he was getting a little irritated. Why can't his son just stay put with Emily Winters?

"I can't stop myself. I see a dragon and I have to just... kill it, you know? It's who I am, Dad." Hiccup said but he was looking defeated as Stoick rubbed his temples feeling a headache forming.

"You are many things, Hiccup. But a dragon killer is not one of them. Get back to the house." Stoick ordered as Hiccup just looked down sadly to hide the hurt in his eyes as Stoick looked at Gobber.

"Make sure he and Winters get there. I have his mess to clean up." Stoick said and starts to walk away.

Having enough of how Stoick was treating her friend and his son, Emily spoke up and stood in his way.

"Chief Stoick, I don't appreciate how you call the damage around the village your son's mess. Sure he may be a magnet to trouble but not always. I would appreciate it if you would just consider how he feels. He's not a nuisance and not useless." Emily said before walking towards Hiccup without a second thought as the villagers just watched her stun with their chief.

Gobber snapped out of his shock and followed her and smacked Hiccup's head lightly but he couldn't help but sympathize with him as he escorted the young heir in the walk of shame. They passed by the villagers who were all looking down at him in disappointment but quickly stopped when Emily was giving them a warning glare. They soon pass by the other teens of the village who mocked and made fun of Hiccup.

"Quite the performance." Tuffnut said and tried to give a smile to Emily since he sees her in a new light but was pushed forward slightly by his twin.

"I've never seen anyone mess up that badly. That helped!" Snotlout taunted as he promptly rubbed it on his cousin's face.

"Thank you, thank you. I was trying, so..." Hiccup said dejectedly and avoided the glare Astrid was giving him.

Before Gobber could even push Snotlout to the ground for how he tried to make Hiccup feel more hurt, Emily beat him to that by punching him right on the nose as he let out a pained yelp while she followed Hiccup. Who knew that girl was so scary.

As they got near the house, Hiccup broke the silence as he could try and convince his mentor that he really did hit a dragon.

"I really did hit one." Hiccup said.

"Sure, Hiccup." Gobber said as this got an eye roll from the teen.

"Emily was with me when it happened and he never listens." Hiccup tried again.

"Well, it runs in the family." Gobber said in a matter of fact tone as they were on the house as Hiccup stepped on the porch.

"And when he does, it's always with this... disappointed scowl. Like someone skimped on the meat in his sandwich." Hiccup said before promptly imitating his dad.

"'Excuse me, barmaid! I'm afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms. Extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fishbone!''' Hiccup said as he looked down at the end as Emily patted his back.

"I don't judge you for who you are, Hic. It's just tough love." Emily tried to comfort him.

"Now, you're thinking about this all wrong. It's not so much what you look like, it's what's inside that he can't stand." Gobber said but both Emily and Hiccup just look at him with a look that says 'was that supposed to help?'

"Thank you for summing that up." Hiccup said sarcastically while turning around to the door and grabbed the door handle but Gobber tried again.

"Look, the point is, stop trying so hard to be something you're not." Gobber said in a soothing tone as he was saddened by how hard the boy tried so hard to be accepted.

"I just want to be one of you guys." Hiccup said as his voice broke and entered the house while Emily and Gobber watched him before she turned to him.

"I'll talk to him, Gobber. I'll see you later." Emily told him as Gobber nodded and left as Emily followed Hiccup inside the house and closed the door behind her.

When she turned around, Hiccup was looking at her expectantly for an explanation.

"Okay, I need you to tell me what happened back at the hill." He said and his eyes were practically telling her to explain it to him.

Emily sighed and decided that it was time for him to know. So she started from the very beginning of when she met the Autobots, her first battle with the Decepticons, discovering her abilities, finding the truth about her origins but left a few details out. Hiccup just stood there in complete silence as Emily finished her tale.

"So, what you're saying is you're from a different area outside of the Archipelago and that you and some others were brought here against your will?" Hiccup asked as she nodded.

"Yup." She nodded while rubbing her arm but she also left out the part that the Autobots and Decepticons are giant metal robots from another planet.

Hiccup just rubbed the back of her head before giving her a hug to which she hugged back before they let go and he went upstairs and went back down after getting his notebook.

"Why don't we go and find the Night Fury since we're practically not allowed in the village while it's still in repairs." Hiccup suggested as she just shook her head with a small laugh.

Hiccup opens the back door of the house and looks around before exiting through the back of the house and runs into the forest with Emily right behind him.

Hiccup and Emily have been searching for hours and trekking through the forest for the Night Fury while Hiccup asks some questions about Emily's home while she answers them. The only way to prove that they have been searching for hours is the map that was nearly full of X of areas they have searched.

They both stopped by a spot and hoped to any gods and Primus that that dragon was there but when he looked up, he let out a defeated sigh when he saw nothing as they went off to search in another area. He drew an X on where they stopped a minute ago before he angrily scribbled all over the page before closing it shut and stuffed it in his vest pocket with a depressed sigh.

"What did the book do to you?" Emily asked in a light teasing matter as she walked beside him while keeping an eye out for Optimus.

Hiccup just laughed slightly before looking up and let out another sigh.

"Oh, the gods hate me. Some people lose their knife or their mug. No, not me. I managed to lose an ENTIRE DRAGON?!" Hiccup exclaimed while slapping a low hanging branch away in frustration only for it to bounce back and hit him directly against his eye and he grunted in pain at that.

He was about to glare at the stupid branch before Emily stopped him as she silently pointed to the tree as his frustrations became of shock and confusion when they saw that the tree was almost split in half. They followed the wreckage and saw a long dug up trench that leads up a small hill.

"Hiccup, you don't think..." Emily cautiously asked as he nodded slowly while gulping slowly.

They both slid down the slope and started to walk in the middle of the trench while Hiccup was wondering what could have caused it. Climbing up the hill, he gasped in shock and fear as he ducked back down from what he saw. Emily didn't move as she was staring at the sight before her. She heard something to their left and glanced to see Optimus quietly walking to the scene. Their eyes met and nodded quietly.

Hiccup took deep breaths before looking back over the hill as he gazed in amazement of his almost accomplishment before fumbling around his vest before he was able to pull out his small dagger.

He took small deep breaths before he climbed down the slope and hid behind a rock that served as his barrier against the dragon. Emily watched silently from the slope while praying to Primus for Hiccup to let the dragon go.

Hiccup slowly came out of his hiding spot and cautiously approached the fallen dragon as he finally got a first look of what the dragon looked like. Black scales were around its body, making it impossible to see at night and no horns, just fins and frills. It also looked like it's dead or unconscious.

Hiccup couldn't believe it or at himself that he was able to shoot this elusive dragon down at night and was feeling a little brave as he walked towards it as thousands of things were running through his mind.

"Oh, wow. I... I-I did it? Oh, I did it! This fixes everything! Yes! I have brought down this mighty beast-!" Hiccup started to exclaim his victory only for it to be short lived when the dragon miraculously, was still alive, pushed his foot away as he let out a startled yell as he backed away against the boulder.

"Whoa!" Emily stifles a gasp at that as Optimus' eyes were high alert as he watched what was unfolding. He may have been turned into a Predacon but he was still an Autobot and was worried for the boy.

Hiccup fearfully walks towards the dragon with his dagger in front of him as if to protect himself from it as he got a good look on its face. But when he did, he was a little taken back. Its eyes were staring at him in a wolf-like stare with its electric green colored eyes. He tried to look away but a sound from the dragon made him look back. He shook his thoughts away as he took in a shaky breath but was visibly tense and frightened.

"I'm going to kill you, dragon. I'm gonna cut out your heart and take it to my father. I'm a Viking. I am a VIKING!" Hiccup told the Night Fury this. He doesn't know whether or not he was convincing himself or the dragon.

The dragon let out another sound but he just ignored it and raised his dagger above his head to take it's life but something made him hesitate and open his eyes. He saw that the dragon was still looking at him and saw that the dragon's eyes were filled with fear. Hiccup shook it off and tried to for another go but the dragon just gave in and lay still.

Emily and Optimus both watch him struggle to bring the dagger down. He was trying but the image of the dragon staring at him with fear for it's life kept repeating in his mind and discovered that he couldn't just kill a defenseless creature. He can't bring himself to kill the dragon.

He soon gave in and let out a sigh of defeat as his arms dropped to the side as he looked between his dagger and the helpless dragon as his mind was going through a conflict. Why didn't it feel right to kill the Night Fury? Was it his conscience or something else?

"I did this..." Hiccup said with regret in his tone as he started to walk back but stopped as he looked back at the dragon sadly.

He looked at Emily who mouthed 'cut it free' before he gritted his teeth and quickly look around to make sure that no one other than Emily was watching as he went and quickly got on his knees and started to cut the ropes off the dragon to set it free

The dragon snapped its eyes open and looked at the human that shot him in confusion and shock. He then felt the ropes loosen and once the last rope was cut, it pounced on the teen who was now pinned down against the rock behind him.

Hiccup let out short gasps for air in fear when the Night Fury pinned him down as he looked at it in fear. They had a small stare off as Hiccup slowly realized that he wasn't dead yet. But recoiled expecting to be burnt to death but the dragon just let out a deep growl before letting out a loud roar that almost made him go deaf.

The dragon then fled away but its balance was off as it seemed to have fallen somewhere. Hiccup gasped for breath as he was still grasping the realization that He wasn't dead yet. Emily was by his side quickly and helped him up as he got up shakily.

"Did... Did the dragon just..." Hiccup asked her breathlessly as she nodded.

Hiccup soon became aware of the other presence in the trees and looked over and gasped loudly as he was now looking at a big dragon in the coloration of red, blue and silver in color but the eyes were what caught his attention.

Optimus let out a gentle sound but that's all it took for Hiccup to let out a small whimper before promptly fainting in Emily's arms as she and Optimus just looked on in surprise.

"Well, that was something." Emily said as she looked at her sparkmate who nudged her gently with his head as she let him.

Looks like fate has started its course in the right direction.
