Wen Xiang's jaw dropped to the floor when he heard the little girl's unexpected question.
"W-why did you think that I'm your brother's wife? Can't you see that I'm a man too?" For the first time, he even stuttered when he replied to another person's statement.
He was a man. A manly man, to be precise. Never once did he ever hear someone mistook him for another man's wife. The same-sex relationship was still taboo in his eyes, and receiving a question about him being another man's wife hurt his pride.
However, he couldn't get mad at Summer Xue because the girl currently stared at him while blinking her eyes innocently.
"My brother once told me that in the future, there would be someone who would prepare food for me and him, and he said that the person would be his wife. You said that you wanted to prepare food for me and my brother, right? So, you must be my brother's wife."
Wen Xiang was speechless, and he couldn't even find his voice to correct Summer's wrong way of thinking. The child's mind was too simple, but it frustrated Wen Xiang.
He was frustrated, but then he could hear a series of laughter coming from the side. When he turned his head, he found Xue Tian laughing heartily while leaning his body on the door frame.
Xue Tian had changed into a white t-shirt and also a pair of shorts, and his hair was wet. It seemed like he just finished showering.
"My sister is indeed smart," the pinkette praised his sister. "The person who is willing to prepare food for me is indeed my wife. So, will you be my wife, Brother Xiang?"
Xue Tian was teasing him, and Wen Xiang was fuming because of the teasing. His face turned red, and the cause was a mix of anger and embarrassment.
Xue Tian dared to tease a former assassin. If Wen Xiang was still an assassin today, he surely would murder Xue Tian using the cruelest method.
"That's not funny," Wen Xiang spoke darkly while glaring at the pinkette.
Xue Tian seemed to just realize that he had offended Wen Xiang with his not-so-funny joke, and his smile vanished.
"My Summer, we run out of tea. Can you go outside to buy some tea for us? I'd like to have a chat with Brother Xiang in a bit," Xue Tian spoke to the girl, and despite feeling confused, the little girl finally nodded her head before leaving the kitchen.
Wen Xiang displayed a worried expression when he saw the girl leaving the kitchen. "You even asked a little girl to go outside alone? Don't you feel worried that someone might kidnap her?"
The taller man just scolded him, but Xue Tian just smiled calmly at the man. "You don't need to worry about her," he replied. "Summer won't go too far. She will only buy the tea from the neighbor's shop, so no one will dare to kidnap her in this area."
Wen Xiang rolled his eyes upon hearing the careless answer. "Do you think you're the thug leader in this area so that bad people wouldn't dare to kidnap your sister?"
The black-haired man was being sarcastic, and Xue Tian laughed out loud once again. "I'm not a thug. I'm just a poor tour guide who's trying to make a living."
The pair of brown eyes rolled again before the owner lifted his hand to turn off the stove. "A poor tour guide won't have this kind of house to live in."
Ignoring the gaze from the pinkette, he started to look around to find something. However, it wasn't easy for him to find the thing because it was his first time to be in the kitchen.
Xue Tian could guess what he was looking for, and he silently opened one of the cupboards and took out a big bowl from the inside. "Here," he spoke as he handed over the bowl to the taller man.
Wen Xiang looked at his eyes before taking the big bowl. He then stood in front of the stove again and started placing the food in the big bowl. He didn't even know what kind of food he was heating earlier, but he knew that the food was not Chinese specialty.
"I'm sorry if I offended you with my joke earlier," Xue Tian suddenly spoke again, and when Wen Xiang glanced at his side, he found the other man standing beside him while lowering his head.
"We better explain everything to your sister. It's not good to lie to an innocent child like her," Wen Xiang replied coldly.
The cold response stunned Xue Tian, and he looked up at the other man with his pair of wide eyes. "Please don't do that," he suddenly begged the other man.
Wen Xiang's movements halted upon hearing the beg. With a frown on his forehead, he turned to the pinkette. "What do you mean?" He asked.
Wen Xiang could see how Xue Tian bit his lip, and he could tell that the pinkette was hesitant right now. He didn't know what made the other man act that way, but he could only wait for a response.
"Opposite to her name, Summer is not a cheerful and energetic girl. She is quite introverted and tends to be gloomy most of the time, but I can see that she likes to have you around her. It's only your first meeting with her, but I can tell that she's comfortable around you. It's the first time I see her being like that."
Wen Xiang was stunned by Xue Tian's words. The pinkette looked solemn all of a sudden, and it was so different from his usual carefree self.
"If she wants to see you as my wife, please let her be."
"What? Are you crazy? We are both men, so why should I become your wife? I don't want to go crazy with you!"
"But, I'm willing to go crazy as long as my sister can be happy in her short life in this world!"
