Chapter 16 - Bewitched

"How did Qu Xiao do it? Shang Yan! You don't know what you're doing. You're completely bewitched by her!"

Shang Xinchen's voice was filled with anxiety as he tried to bring him back to his senses. Shang Yan somehow seemed like a stranger to him.

Qu Xiao stood on the spot and shook her head innocently.

Shang Yan gave him a look of dissatisfaction as he reminded Shang Xinchen, "She's your sister-in-law. Be careful with your words."

Shang Xinchen could not believe what he had just heard. He took two steps back and laughed bitterly. "You are hopeless!" He then left without looking back.

The villa seemed to have gone through a storm. The housemaids and helps were cleaning up the glass shards in the living room while the butler pushed Shang Yan back to the bedroom.

Qu Xiao thought about how to repay Shang Yan for standing up for her and finally went to the kitchen to make some noodle as a token of her gratitude.

Knock knock—

She held the tray with some difficulty and knocked on the door.

Shang Yan changed into a set of casual pajamas. His short brown hair hung loosely in front of his eyes. He leaned against the bed frame and said softly, "Come in."

Qu Xiao was stunned when she saw him looking so cute and approachable. She did not expect Shang Yan to have this side to him.

She quickly collected her emotions and placed the bowl of steaming noodle on the bedside table. She stood beside the bed and explained, "I think you might be hungry. I made some supper for you. I don't know if you like it. Or you can tell me what you want to eat."

"Don't bother."

Shang Yan rejected her at once. Qu Xiao did not hide her disappointment.

Looking at her expression, Shang Yan suddenly found it kind of funny. He stared at Qu Xiao and asked, "You change so fast. One minute you were crying and wanting to leave the house, and now you're making noodles for me? Which one is the real you?"

"Or is this what you do to get what you want?"

Shang Yan's eyes were filled with doubt and wariness.

He had lived on the edge of a knife for almost thirty years, and he was used to rejecting people who were nice and kind to him.

Qu Xiao felt that he was a little pitiful as she beamed and said cheerfully, "Because I can see it clearly!"

"Shang Liqing wanted to harm me. It has nothing to do with you. On the contrary, you even helped me. I have to repay you!"

"Do you want to try it? My cooking is really good. I can feed you if you want."

Qu Xiao changed the topic and wanted to sit by Shang Yan's bedside.

Shang Yan grabbed the chopsticks uneasily and said in a low voice, "I'll do it myself. You can leave."

Qu Xiao pouted and looked longingly at Shang Yan before walking out of the room.

Shang Yan savored her words while he ate the noodles. The bland soup did not taste like anything. And the noodles were a bit undercooked and tasted kind of stiff. However, Shang Yan, who had always been picky, ate up the noodles she made.

Late at night, he received a call from home. When he found out that Shang Liqing had gone home to cause trouble, he had no choice but to call the police to release Qu Qi.

Ling Chi, who was locked up at the same place, was a little anxious when he received the news.

He spent some money to get a phone so he could contact the outside world. He dialed Qu Xiao's number and pleaded with her.

"Xiao, I know you're still angry. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have ignored you recently. I promise I'll spend more time with you!"

"Call off the lawsuit with the police and get me out of here, please. There are still many things that the company needs me to handle..."

Hearing Ling Chi's disgusting voice, Qu Xiao moved her phone away and said coldly, "No!"

"You're an adult, so you need to pay the price for your actions. You should think about how you should act so that you can get a lighter sentence instead of wasting your time on useless things... Goodbye, good luck."

Qu Xiao hung up immediately, and Ling Chi was dumbfounded when he heard the beeping sound.

His throat was dry as he called back again. When Qu Xiao saw all the calls, she blocked him before she put her phone down and went to sleep.

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is unavailable!"

Ling Chi almost smashed his phone when he heard the icy voice. "Qu Xiao, you b*tch, just you wait!"

He dialed another number. "Hello? Is this Mr. Qu?"

"I have some trouble, and I might need your help."

In the detainment room of the police station, Ling Chi whispered into the phone about the trouble he was facing, his eyes flicking viciously. When the man on the other end of the phone made a promise to him, his lips curled into a smile.
