Forsythia rushed to the door, pressing her ear against it to listen for any activity outside. Once sure the corridor was safe, she pulled the door open and charged out.
Her movements were so sudden that Peter was also startled awake, watching Forsythia dash out in confusion. Then, he too heard something—the heavy breathing of large animals. He sprang up, scrambling toward the corridor as well.
