Eleanor Spencer Atkinson hurriedly made her way back to River State.
When she burst into the Bell Tower Building, she saw Gem Atkinson receiving another blood plasma transfusion.
Today, Gem again showed symptoms of bleeding all over his body; Josh Levs and Norton Jarvis stood by his side. Forsythia Brown was kneeling beside the bed, tightly holding the man's hand—which was still bleeding. The blood stained Forsythia's hand red and some of it kept dripping onto the floor through the gaps between her fingers.
As Eleanor pushed the door open, this was the horrifying scene that greeted her.
"Gem."
With a shrill cry, Eleanor threw herself to the bedside.
Gazing at her son's pallid face, at her listless son whose condition was a matter of life and death, she felt as though the end of the world had come. Suddenly unstable on her feet, she felt powerless in her legs and collapsed onto the edge of the bed, reaching out to check her son's breathing—he was still alive.
