Forsythia Brown initially only noticed Peter Hancock, not realizing the tall, skinny man nearby. When her gaze landed on him, well...
Forsythia Brown thought with a sigh: It's a small world after all.
Although Forsythia didn't know how the Hancock brothers and Jane Meaden became siblings, she recognized Ned Mamet's little uncle. It was Peter Hancock's cousin, Bartley Hancock.
Bartley's father had once been the governor of River State. Bartley was Old Governor Hancock's late-life child, so he was immensely favored by him and was known as Mr. Hancock in the area.
It must have been when she was very young, probably in junior high, that Forsythia skipped a grade and ended up in Bartley Hancock's class by chance.
