Chapter 3 - Diego

She was a women of 30 who had been raped and was now pregnant with the mans child. She had decided many times to abort the baby, but how could she when the baby was just as much a part of her as it was the mans. She couldn't kill something that was a part of her...could she? She sat on the sofa wondering what to do now, she was almost due and being a single parent, there wasn't many options for her.

Her stomach grumbled and she laughed to herself. Slowly getting up she decided to get food at the little corner store down the street. Getting her jacket and purse she locked the house behind herself and left. She had pasted two apartment complexes when she had a strange feeling someone was watching her. She picked up her pace not feeling safe walking by herself. Suddenly a body moved from the shadows next to her, knocking her down onto the street, as a car was coming full speed for her. Breaking just in time to stop a foot from her. Falling to the floor sent her into labor making her water break. Her contractions were agonizing as she screamed. Someone came to her aid whispering to her sweet nothings of being alright. This stranger rushed her to the hospital, as she swayed in and out of consciousness. At one point she felt a sharp pain on her neck just as they reached the hospital, and her body flared up in pain. It felt as if she was burning from the inside out. She thrashed about, but the doctors strapped her down and took her to have an immediate C-section. Slipping in and out, everything around her made no sense. She was in pain, having her child, and was almost hit by a car. She laid on the hospital bed as the doctors worked on her. Her breathing labored as they finally removed the baby. A high pitch cry filled the little room they were in. A smiled spread across her face, as she listened to her new born baby cry. This little bundle of joy caused by something tragic, was a miracle. But just as fast as she heard the baby her body went into shock, shaking violently. Her heart raced to an incredible speed, the doctors tried to help her but nothing was working. She stopped breathing altogether and the heart monitor went silent.

The new born child was now motherless, and orphaned if you will. But the doctors took the child to the gentleman who had brought the women in.

"What's your relationship to this women sir?"

"I'm her husband." He lied. His deep voice rumbled.

"I'm sorry to say sir, your wife died during child birth, but congratulations are in order. Its a healthy baby boy."

The small child was placed in the mans arms by the doctor. The gentleman smiled down at the little bundle, and cooed words to him.

"Sir?" The doctor asked "Your name for the birth certificate? "

"Donas Rares." He swayed the child in his arms. Not paying attention to the Doctor.

"And the child's name?"

"We shall call him, Diego Rares." Donas put a finger to the childs lips parting his lips curious to see what was inside. Stunning teeth shown back. This wasn't normal for new born, well not all new born. Donas ran his finger across the child teeth, sharp as knifes Donas was impressed. He slit his finger bleeding into the child's mouth, as the child clamped down suckling the blood from Donas's finger as if it were his mothers breast. Donas smiled in aproval. Walking out with the child, Donas had a smile from ear to ear. "I will raise you little one. You shall be my son from here you shall be the Prince of the Night."

Diego was a special child, born a vampire he was given privileges over the others. Donas made sure that Diego was given everything as a child and spoiling him rotten. Anything he needed he would get, anything he wanted it was given to him. With this child Donas who was king had just created his Prince. Diego wasn't the first child born a vampire but he was the first child that lived through the transition, which was rare. There had to be something special about this little boy and that thought kept Donas greedy only wanting the child to himself.

"I'm hungry!" An angry Diego shouted from his seat across from Donas at the kitchen table. He pouted and frowned, showing off his dimples.

Donas wasn't fazed by the child's out burst, ever since the child was 4 he had been demanding things and now he was 7.

"Calm child all in due time." Donas calmly answered the brooding little boy.

Diego huffed, looked at his father and in one quick motion stuck his finger in his mouth, biting down hard breaking skin. Diego's finger started to bleed, as he licked his finger clean then began to suck on his own wound.

Donas raised a brow at the child, how clever he was feeding on himself. "Now child feeding on yourself will only make you sick."

Diego stood up on his seat and pounded his fist into the table. "Then FEED ME!" This child didn't look like a child anymore. His once fair skin turned white like ice along with his jet black hair turning a shade of grey. His eyes turned a deep purple, his nails extended like claws, and his teeth extended making this 7 year old child look like a rabbet beast.

Donas motioned to the door, when it opened a young women walked in, oblivious to what was going on around her. Standing up Donas moved to the young women so she was now standing in front of Diego, in his rabbet state. Caressing the young woman's neck Donas watched his son, as he stared at the women hungrily. "Here boy eat till your full." He pulled his nail across her neck cutting her, leaving small trail of scarlet. Diego being just a child and not knowing restraint jumped the women and feed on her like the animal monster he was.

Years went by and Diego grew stronger, larger. The boy was learning respect and restraint. When he was 10 Donas stopped spoiling him and made him work for his food. Diego started training at the age of 12 to become as strong as he could. Being the son of a King he was held to high expectations. He was now 22, he had stopped aging a few months ago and no longer needed just blood to sustain himself but could also eat regular food. He was almost the same height as Donas just shy of 6'1.

Walking into his house after a day of training Diego's first thought was to go into the refrigerator and pull out a Gatorade, but the thirst he was feeling wouldn't be quenched by and normal liquid. He let his senses take over, feeling the need to feed they had an abundant supply of house workers for the taking. He heard heavy footsteps nearing the kitchen so he sat on the barstool of the island table and waited.

A little plump women walked into the kitchen holding large pans. She was a plump, short women, in her late 40s, started working at the house 5 years ago hopping that someone would turn her. But they merely kept her as a refrigerator. Diego stood up and watched her move, like a lion watching his prey. But when she realized he was watching her, her heart started to raced. He knew she always had a soft spot for him.

"Oh Margie." He called seductively, playing her. Her face turned a bright red and she tried to ignore him. He had a way with women. "Oh Margie why do you ignore me so?" He wined knowing he had her attention.

"What is it Diego?" She turned to face him, as he sent her his winning smile.

"Come her." He motioned for her to come closer, to embrace her in a hug. She slowly sauntered over to him, as he just watched her with his breath taking smirk.

As soon as she entered his arms he nuzzled her neck. "Mmm Margie you smell heavenly." His whispering made Margie's heart race faster. In that instant his teeth enlarged as he sank them deep into her flesh.

The plump women struggled at first but Diego had a firm hold on her. Even with her weighing twice as much as him, she still stood no chance. Pain turned to pleasure as it always did when Vamps fed freely.

"Now, now Diego, you mustn't keep eating the help." A deep voice said from behind Diego. Turning around Diego's eyes shown bright purple, he let Margie drop roughly from his arms to the floor, Blood dripped from his mouth making him look like the animal he was. He watched the man standing before him, a man he called father walk up to him smiling in approval.

"Ahh father," Diego greeted him, whipping his mouth of the blood, but not whipping it all off. "It seems you've caught me while I was just finishing breakfast." It was true Diego hadn't heard his fathers footsteps enter the kitchen. But he guest that was why he was the king of all Vamps. Ever since he was a child he loved to test his father. He smirked at his father like a child caught but not caring about the outcome.

"Breakfast you say?" Donas looked down at the women now laying on the floor near death. "When your done with your breakfast make sure someone takes out the garbage." Donas walked away with out another word.

Diego was stunned his father didn't give him a second glance. He called for someone to clean up the mess and followed after his father. "You said they were cattle, nothing but blood banks, yet now you turned your back to me?"

Donas stopped midstride and turned to his son. "You seek my approval yet you already have it, what more do you want boy?" His voice was harsh and disapproving, and he spat the word boy as if poison on his tongue.

"Just your approval that I'm doing as you wish father. Nothing more." Diego hung is head, he remember all the times he had gotten into trouble as a child and was trying to make up for it.

Donas put a hand on his sons shoulders and smiled at the boy, "Your still young son, I have given you my approval, but if you still don't believe you have it. One day when you grow older bring me the head of our enemy." Donas dropped his hand and walked away leaving Diego standing there watching after him. Donas stopped looked over his shoulder and smiled at his son. "Bring me the head of our enemy and that which he holds dear and then child you will get what you deserve."

Diego stood still watching his father walk away. He vowed that he would kill the man that was trying to kill his father and any other that would stand in his way. He would kill the man and who ever he held dear.

Walking back to his room, Diego needed a way to find the Lycans. He knew that if he made a large enough commotion in town onw would show up to clean up his mess, but most of Lucas followers were so loyal to him they never talked.
