Chapter 7 - The Hungry Knights

As they sat around the campfire, Jayce and Ekko debated what to call their group. They had half a day left to reach their destination, and they wanted to arrive with a cool name. Jayce favored names like "The Guardians" or "The Sentinels," names that reflected their duty as protectors and defenders of the weak. He thought these names would inspire fear and respect in their foes. "We need a name like this if we want to be the heroes that save lives and get all the ladies," Jayce said.

Ekko, however, had a different idea. He flashed a mischievous grin and suggested "The Three Amigos," a name that highlighted their friendship and shared adventures. Ekko thought this name would create a bond of camaraderie and fun among them. "The Three Amigos is better because it shows people that we're a team and that we have each other's backs," Ekko said.

Poppy, who had been listening quietly, decided to join the conversation. She smiled and offered her own suggestion: "What about The 3 Hungry Knights?" Jayce and Ekko stopped talking and looked at her with disbelief.

"That's not funny," Ekko said. "That's just embarrassing."

"Exactly," Jayce agreed. "That's not funny at all, Poppy. We're looking for a name that commands respect and strikes fear into our enemies. You owe us an apology."

Poppy felt ashamed, realizing that she had made a bad joke. She looked down and said sorry to Jayce and Ekko, "I'm sorry," she said, regretting her attempt at humor.

Jayce and Ekko, seeing Poppy's genuine remorse, softened their expressions. They acknowledged her apology and assured her, "It's alright. No harm done," Jayce said. Recognizing Poppy's good intentions.

As the night wore on, the trio continued their journey, letting go of the debate over their group's name. Instead, they focused on the adventures that lay ahead, their shared aspirations.

Jayce and Poppy sat together, their conversation turning to Poppy's magical abilities. Curiosity piqued, Jayce asked her about the spells she could use. Poppy smiled and replied, "Well, I have healing spells and a few alteration spells like 'Enchant Weapon' or 'Shielding Aura' that can strengthen our attacks and provide protective barriers."

Intrigued, Jayce's eyes lit up as he asked Poppy to demonstrate her healing spell. Poppy looked around and asked Jayce, "What do you want me to heal?"

Jayce smirked mischievously and plucked a stick from the fire, poking Ekko with it. Ekko let out a yelp of pain as a burn appeared on his left shin.

Poppy focused and started to chant in a strange language. It sounded like the language of the MoonShadow tribe, where Jayce's mother came from. But Poppy's accent and pronunciation were off, showing that she didn't know the language well. Her chants meant, "Let my hands be vessels of healing and grace, bringing comfort and peace to every weary embrace."

Despite her poor language skills, her healing spell worked. Ekko's leg injury began to heal slowly.

Suddenly, they heard growls from the darkness. A pack of wolves appeared, attracted by the fire and Ekko's scream. Jayce and Ekko quickly stood up and surrounded Poppy. Jayce made a quick decision and told Ekko, "I need you to pick a direction and run," Jayce said calmly.

"Are you crazy? Why would I leave Poppy–I mean you guys here?!" Ekko protested. "A knight never runs from battle."

"We don't have any weapons, so we can't fight them," Jayce said. "Wolves are smart pack animals, we need to split them up and confuse them. Then we can scare them away. Use the chant I gave you earlier if you don't want to die."

"I forgot it," Ekko admitted. "Tell me again."

"'Make my limbs lighter, let me run like the wind'" Jayce repeated.

Ekko used the modified chant and disappeared in a flash, leaving some of the wolves baffled. Three of the wolves ran after him, while the other four looked around nervously.

Jayce seized the moment and used his own magic. He chanted, "Fiery breath, unleash a wall of blazing fire and scorch all who attempt to cross."

He breathed out a huge stream of fire that separated him and Poppy from the remaining wolves. One of the wolves tried to jump over the fire but got burned and ran away howling in pain.

Half an hour later, Ekko came back, dragging his broken leg behind him. He was covered in bruises, scratches, and bite marks, but he had a grin on his face. He told Jayce what had happened, his voice full of excitement.

"Jayce, you won't believe it! Your chant worked! It worked too well, actually. I was moving so fast, I couldn't control myself. I crashed into a tree and broke my leg. But it was amazing! I felt like I was flying!"

Before Poppy could even begin to heal him, Jayce interjected but Ekko tried to stop him. "I want Poppy to heal me," he protested.

"Nice try but I have a better idea," Jayce said as he twisted one of Ekko's arms making him lay down and surrender before using his healing chant on him. "With hands as vessels, imbued with healing grace, I bring solace and peace to each weary embrace. A healing presence, my touch, a sacred deed, as waters cascade, a soothing balm they proceed."

Jayce surprised Poppy with his knowledge. He rapidly performed a combination of the MoonShadow tribe's chant and Poppy's healing spell, their chants merging into a powerful force. In an instant, Ekko's leg as well as the rest of his body was fully healed, as good as new.
