Chapter 47 - Losing Power

It was a sunny, bright, and a not so energetic afternoon. The sun was up and shining as they were not a spec of darkness in the sky same as for the twinkling stars. Mother nature was quite happy as any other day for the environment was as green as the color green and the clouds roamed the bright blue skies. A perfect day for anything was it not? It was a few weeks after the mayor had been attacked and everything was going quite well. There was no trouble in Třekov whatsoever, it was a bit ' boring'. Even though the roads and streets were packed with people there was barely a sound, mostly the birds chirped. After the festival, the town had become quieter and less vigorous, maybe the reason for this was that most of the people who attended the festival were not people of Třekov, either way, one could see the differences as if comparing night and day. The town was a big dead almost as if it was deserted. However, this was reasonably normal as travelers, adventures, and so on were the ones causing the commotion among the townsfolk and also the ones making the town as lively as it is but when they weren't there the town was uneventful, and every day passed by quickly like every other making it boring. While the elderly preferred It as it was now since it was quiet, the younger folk felt as if they were being tortured. I mean everyone loves a bizarre day, don't they?

Alex, having awakened, was now slowly losing his mastery of magic just as it was for Xavier and many others. He didn't like the feeling of becoming weaker and weaker which showed his similarities to Xavier. Alex was a bit stressed, he wasn't as eager or impatient as Xavier but he still felt irritated. Xavier who acted solely on results was the opposite of Alex who cared about time and effort. He had been waiting so patiently to awaken and now that it had happened, he was in a sense satisfied but as he grew weaker his satisfaction also grew vulnerable. Alex had no idea what was happening, he wasn't as much of a genius as Xavier so he couldn't figure it out.

He was practically in the same situation as Xavier was when he first awakened. They both had no idea how what was happening to them at first.' Is this natural?' Alex thought.

" Well stressing over it now won't change anything won't it?" Alex let out a deep breath." The only way to absolutely know this is by testing it myself." Alex then walked outside to the yard.

Alex then lazily let his palm out. He then closed his eyes and channeled mana. Mana ran through his body from his mana core to his palm and as he released it, the ground started shaking. It was a few tremors, nothing bad, though Vivian and Xavier would suspect it to be an earthquake. As the leaves fell upon the ground, Alex could almost feel it; it was as if he bonded with the earth. He felt echoes throughout the ground. It was almost like the flow of water as the waves slowly drifted away from one by another except he felt it all. As Alex slowly rode his hand, the floor rumbled aggressively. It was like attaching a magnet to another, as the magnets grew the closer the stronger the gravitational pull except, the more and higher he rose his hand an earth spike from the ground slowly took its full shape.

Alex then immediately rose his hand the highest he could reach. An earth spike then quickly plummeted from the ground up. As it grew, the sound of vibrations and clanging was heard. Dust flew from the ground in the air as the earth spike was constructed. The earth spike look nothing like the material it was made from as it had a darker color and was way sturdier, perhaps it was the magic enhancing it. The earth spike was also smaller than Alex's usual which proved that something was certainly wrong with him or rather, his mana core. Alex then punched the earth spike continuously in a safe spot to test its durability, it slowly cracked as he punched his fists away. Even though its defense was weak, its main objective would be to stop the enemy in motion as it could do due to its sharp tip.

" Yup, that proves it. I'm getting weaker but how and why?" Alex scratched his head." Let's try another spell."

Alex then held both palms straight out, focused, and stood in place without moving an inch. He channeled mana to his palms as mana slowly circled them. Small rocks that were still taking shape slowly passed through his palms as if nothing was there.

Alex then cleared his throat and shouted," Rock Bullets!"

Sharp rocks then fled his palms with great precision as it was a long-range type spell. The spell wasn't called Rock Bullets for nothing as it rapidly shot out like bullets. His limit on how much he could continuously cast without stopping for a second or few was four while it was six before. This once again proved that he was certainly and slowly losing his prowess. Alex was more than aware of this by now but yet he still denied it as he never heard or seen such a situation before even when he was a geek when it came to studying magic which was why he used his magic so efficiently because he copied how others he'd seen in battle use it.

Alex then clenched his fists," I won't allow myself to get weaker, even if I do I will try harder once again. I can't be under the Elliots' protection for almost the rest of my life, I need to be useful for when they need me in crucial times and I won't lose to Xavier!" He was more than determined to get stronger," Where's Xavier anyway? Maybe he'll know what's happening? I should probably ask him."
